Ortak dernekler Free Software Foundation'dan bağımsız ve tamamen otonomdurlar. Kendi başlarına çalışırlar ve her açıdan (üyelik, malî işler, tüzük gibi) kendi kendilerini yönetirler.
Ortak olmak, FSFE'yle resmi anlamda dost olmak ve FSFE'ye doğrudan erişebilmek anlamına gelir. Ortaklarımız çoğunlukla iç iletişimimize ve karar alma süreçlerimize katılırlar. Aynı zamanda, mücadelelerimizde ve fuar gibi etkinliklerde de beraber çalışırız.

ANSOL'un açılımı "National Association for Free Software" şeklindedir. ANSOL Portekiz'de Özgür Yazılım'ın yaygınlaştırılmasına, geliştirilmesine ve bu konuda araştırmalar, çalışmalar yapmaya; aynı zamanda sosyal, politik, felsefî, kültürel, teknik ve bilimsel etkilerine odaklı, kar amacı gütmeyen bir dernektir.

Fundația Ceata is a Romanian Free Software and Free Culture foundation aligned with the Free Software philosophy of the GNU Project. It is incorporated in Bucharest and has local teams in Cluj County and the Republic of Moldova. Ceata (Romanian for "the gang") has started as an informal group in June 2008 and it has become foundation in February 2013. Since its beginning Ceata is heavily involved in Free Software activism, organization of digital freedom events, and development of Free Software and Free Cultural works.
