Studying computing
Hi everybody, I am an electronic technician and passionate advocate of Free Software. Being currently interested in improving my knowledge about everything, from general physics to digital electronics and computing, I have noticed that, sadly, it is almost impossible to find any training center or university in Spain offering courses not based on or using proprietary software in their lectures. I am not specially interested in a degree certification, but I would like to have I higher level of understanding about all this matters that I have always loved. It would be interesting to know different opinions from people close this movement, about the convenience of continuing my studies in a classical way (even having to use proprietary software and quite useless languages as Modula-2) or, by the contrary if you thing one could reach a good level as, say, webmaster, programmer or system administrator studying mostly on you own. Thank you

Re: Studying computing
Hello there!
Try studying on your own, for a start. Find some Open Courseware (http://ocw.mit.edu, http://www.gnacademy.org) and try to follow some of the lessons. Try to contribute solutions to problems from programmers' magazines,
Consider the posibility of studying in a University via Internet (remote exams)
