GPLv3: Improving a Great Licence

Richard Stallman will be in Brussels to present the current state of the project to update free software's keystone licence. The GNU General Public License (GPL) is by far the most used licence by software in GNU+Linux systems. After 16 years, it is being updated.

Stallman will give an overview of the changes and will discuss the philosophy of the changes as well as the goals of the licence as a tool of the free software movement. This will be his first presentation since the release of discussion draft 3 of GPLv3. Discussion draft 3 is the result of eight months of public comment and committee discussion. GPLv3 tackles software patents, the Novell-Microsoft deal, DRM, Tivoisation, licence compatibility, and other legal issues for free software.
