PC/SC implementation in 10.5.4 is quite buggy. I wasn't able to use the fsfe smartcard with a SCR 531 Usb reader. Installing this update linked here fixed the problem.

Now the card works as expected with macgnupg.

Does anyone know how to configure stand alone macs running OS X 10.5.X to use the FSFE smart card for desktop login?

I cannot find anything under System Preferences => Accounts

1.2 update is out but..
