FroSCon impressions

I was at FrOSCon this weekend and held a presentation about freifunk.net. I just did my first public presentation in English and am still impressed how smooth this went. Cause of this I feel ready for future presentations at FOSDEM and other places in the world. :)

The story how I made my slides is dramatic. To make it short: I had no slides on the day before FrOSCon. There was so much to do to prepare tarent's showcases with GNU Classpath + Cacao for OpenMoko's Neo1973 as well as the Nokia IT devices. So the creation of my talk was mainly done between 3 and 5am. :-)

However I think this weekend was pure fun. I hope those who attended my talk had no clue about my hackish slide creation style (I usually do not do it like
this).

One of my personal highlights of FrOSCon was to meet and talk to Mickey Lauer of OpenMoko fame. He is very open-minded and pleased by tarent's efforts to bring our GNU Java-like software on the OpenMoko platform. Naturally he is not interested in them at all (and I would not expect something else) but sees
the value it adds for the whole ecosystem. I think this is a very smart way of thinking which should be quickly adopted among the whole free software world.
It boils down to:

Be happy about the successes of a free software project whose technology you do not like.

Or the other way round:

Consider yourself a dinosaur if you are a die-hard GNOME user and cannot be happy about a KDE release!

With some luck my blog is soon aggregated at planet.openmoko.org as well. And  it would make me happy to read about e.g. mono and Gtk# having success on OpenMoko!

Best regards
Robert
