DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Giacomo Alessandroni and Milena Rossi (FSFE Supporters) will summarize the story of the project ‘Adopt Your Town’: a workshop proposed for third-year high school pupils\, to be conducted during the 2025/26 school year. During this mapping workshop\, thanks to the work of 26 pupils\, the town of Pesaro has increased the number of map changes by over 95\,000 units. Other pupils\, after them\, based on the work of their schoolmates\, have printed tactile maps of their campus. This is only the first step. The ‘Italian Union of Blind and Partially Sighted People’ have shown interest in these kind of 3D maps which can be easily done for each zone\, not only in the town of Pesaro.

The remarkable feature of it is that it was announced as an “Open Source Project” with “high repairability and sustainability”\, with all mechanical and electronics design files as well as the firmware source code published as “open source”. We got ourselves a device and did a careful analysis of the design files provided by the manufacturer.
