Since 2001 the FSFE has been enhancing users' rights
by abolishing barriers for software freedom. For 20 years we have
been helping individuals and organisations to understand how Free
Software contributes to freedom, transparency, and self-determination.
For the next two decades we need your help. We want
everyone to be able to control their technology. Free Software and its
freedoms to use, study, share, and improve are the
key to that goal.
At the moment we cannot process promotion material and merchandise orders
at the usual speed. Anyway, our staffers are doing their best to satisfy
all your requests as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding

Free Software and User Freedom
Free Software and tools
This leaflet compares the use of Free Software to the use of screws and
screwdrivers. This analogy was chosen to help audiences with a non-technical
background to understand the four freedoms of software. The leaflet is
generally well received at the FSFE's booths.

Email self-defense with GnuPG
After Snowden's revelations about the mass surveillance programmes by the NSA
and other Western security agencies, there is a big interest by the people in
reclaiming their privacy as well as to secure their communication. To help
people with their email communication, we made a leaflet that explains the
problems of email security and how to solve them by using GnuPG for email
encryption. In addition, this leaflet explicitly explains what is a backdoor
and why software for security measures needs to be Free Software.
