Monthly Fellowship meeting in Berlin, Germany
09 December 2010
This month again, the Berlin Fellowship meeting will be in the Newthinking Store, in the Tucholskystr. 48, 10117 Berlin.
We'll be there from 19:30. Ali Gündüz will make a presentation there on "Free Software GSM". The talk will be aimed at those without any prior knowledge of GSM
protocols. "You have gotten used to the idea of Android and Meego? Let's see what
you'll think about the possibility of Free Software handling what your
cell phone is primarily made for" announces Ali Gündüz.
As usual, this invitation is for everyone interested
in the FSFE or Free Software. We're looking forward to seeing

At a conference in Badajoz, in the Spanish
region of Extremadura, public administrations
from across Europe are exchanging experiences
and plans regarding Free Software. FSFE's
President Karsten Gerloff has been invited to
share recent developments in European policy
concerning Free Software and Open Standards.

At WIPO's committee on development and "intellectual property", WIPO's member states will debate how rules for copyright, patents and trademarks can help to promote social and economic development. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff and intern Maelle Costa will participate to give FSFE's input to the discussion. Topics on the agenda include collaborative projects and patents.

Technology standards are a powerful tool to promote or
stifle software innovation. For Free Software, it is
critical that even patented technologies which are
included in standards can be implemented without
restrictions. At a conference in Brussels organised by the
European Commission, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will
participate in a panel on Free Software and
standardisation.

Fellowship Jabber meeting about FSFE’s education activities

FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will speak about Free
Software and business innovation. Henrik Sandklef of
FSFE's Swedish team will give an overview of the situation
regarding Free Software in Sweden.

FSFE as honour's guest of the Berlin Debating Union
11 November 2010
FSFE has been invited by the Berlin Debating Union to make a speech at its first Knowledge Sharing Evening of the year. Matthias Kirschner's speech will begin at 7p.m., and then the public will have time to ask questions. on 8.15p.m., a debate around the topic of Free Software will start. Therefore, the Berlin Fellowship meeting of November 11th will exceptionnally take place in the Humboldt University's main building, in the Orbis Humboldtianus, above the Audimax (entrance Dorotheenstr 17). The Knowledge Sharing Evening will attract students from all the universities of Berlin, we hope to see you there too !

FSFE is co-organising the Free Society Conference and Nordic Summit (FSCONS). 'Divide and Reconquer: Regaining Control Of Our Communications' will be FSFE's own track, including five talks exploring freedom and control in everyday online communication.
7th Brandenburger Linux-Information day

The University of Potsdam hosts the 7th Brandenburger Linux Information day (BLIT). FSFE will present a booth with information and materials about Free Software in higher education, and in the workplace. Additionally, the FSFE will have a debating workshop open to the public where people will have the possibility to reflect and debate about the stakes of Free Software and Open Standards. Entry to this event is free of charge. Bring your questions about Free Software with you!

This month again, the Berlin Fellowship meeting will be in the Newthinking Store, in the Tucholskystr. 48, 10117 Berlin.
We'll be there from 19:30. Torsten Grote will do a presentation on "Centralised Internet Services and Problems of Power". This talk will illustrate the trend towards centralised services and explain the reasons for this trend. It will conclude with some solutions and strategies that can help users to
remain in control of their computing and their data. Other topics for this meeting are the ongoing PDF readers campaign, and the two events to come : FSCONS and BLIT, both on the 6th of November.

At the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva,
the Standing Committee on the Law of Patents meets for
its 15th session. Topics to be discussed include the
patentability of software and the relation between patents
and standards. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff is
participating in the meeting in order to help create
rules, laws and practices that are favourable to Free
Software.

Over the week-end, the FSFE web team will meet to work on FSFE's website. A new design for the
FSFE will be implemented, and a slew of new improvements will be applied. For this unique gathering, we need Developers (HTML, CSS, XSLT, Perl), good English speakers/writers and translators (of all languages).

At the IRILL conference on Free Software research taking place
in Paris, France, both FSFE's current President Karsten
Gerloff and founding President Georg Greve will speak during
the opening session. Karsten's talk is titled "Enlightening!
Free Software research in context". Georg will discuss "Free
Software and the playing field".

Software Freedom Day 2010

Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free Software. Take this opportunity to share with your community the advantages of Free Software in business, education, the public sector and at home. To celebrate Software Freedom Day, Karsten Gerloff will give a talk at a celebration in the Royal Library of The Hague, Netherlands. The event will take place on the 18th of September, for more information you can have a look at the agenda.

On 17 and 18 September 2010, the first FrOSCamp will take place on the
premises of the ETH Zurich in the CHN building of the Zentrum campus,
Universitätsstrasse 16, Zurich. Reinhard Müller will hold a speech titled
"Free yourself - how to save the world in five easy steps" (in German),
and FSFE will present its work and the Fellowship at an information
booth. Admission to the event is free of charge, and no registration is
required.
Internet Governance Forum 2010 in Vilnius, Lithuania

Karsten Gerloff, FSFE's President, will speak at a workshop of this year's Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Vilnius, Lithuania. The subject is "Data in the Cloud: Where do Open Standards fit in?". The workshop will take place on Thursday, September the 16th, from 14:15 to 16:15.
FSFE has been involved in the IGF since its first edition in 2006, and is part of the Dynamic Coalition on Open Standards.

The 2010 Libre Software Meeting is a non commercial conference
with talks, workshops and round tables about Free Software and
its uses. The LSM provides a place for exchange and meeting
between Free Software developers, users and stakeholders. This
year, it will be at Bordeaux 1 University.
Update: The FSFE will present its activities at
a booth. We are still looking for helpers at that booth. Whoever

how you can contribute to it with your own GPS-device and how you can

университета и центр Agora при Университете Ювяскюля исследовали уровень
использования свободных программ в школах Финляндии. Результаты
исследования и выводы представит Киммо Видероос в докладе, который
состоится 12 мая в 18:00 по адресу: Demola, Väinö Linnan aukio 15,
третий этаж, Tampere. После официальной части запланировано открытое
обсуждение вопросов, связанных с использованием свободных программ

FSFE is receiving this year's Theodor
Heuss Medal. On Friday, FSFE's President
Karsten Gerloff will speak on "Capitalism and
Responsibility" during a colloquium organised by the
Theodor Heuss Foundation. Gesine Schwan, a former
candidate for the President of Germany, will open this
event on "The social market economy and
globalisation". The award ceremony will take place on
Saturday from 10:30 to 12:15. It will be recorded by
the German TV channel Phoenix.
Both events are by invitation only. We have a small number
of invitations left. Please contact the German team if you
would like to join us. Friday's event will take place from
14:00 to 18:00 at Literaturhaus Stuttgart. The award
ceremony on Saturday will take place at the Alte Reithalle
Stuttgart.

14 April 2010
Координатор финской группы членов Содружества Отто Кекяляйнен
проведет презентацию о Европейском фонде свободного программного
обеспечения (на финском языке), после которой запланировано обсуждение
вопросов, связанных со свободным программным обеспечением,
в неформальной обстановке.
Собрание могут посетить все желающие. Обязательная регистрация
не требуется. Тем не менее рекомендуем сообщить о том, что вы придете
на собрание, написав по адресу fsfe-fi@lists.fsfe.org, чтобы
организаторы подготовили достаточно припасов.

На мероприятии, которое пройдет в Университете искусств в Линце,
будут проведены семинары, доклады и демонстрации из области
цифровых искусств. ЕФСПО организует стенд и приглашает всех желающих
побеседовать о свободном программном обеспечении за чашечкой кофе.
08 – 09 April 2010
С 8 по 9 апреля в Амстердаме Рабочая
группа по поддержке свободы программного обеспечения, юридическое
подразделение ЕФСПО, проведет третий Европейский семинар
по лицензированию и юридическим вопросам. Мероприятие предоставляет
возможность юристам обсудить процедуры удовлетворения требованиям
лицензий, управления поставками, лицензиями и многие другие вопросы,
связанные с разбивающимся европейским рынком свободного программного
обеспечения. Семинар проводится в небольшом помещении, и лица,
не являющиеся членами Правовой сети, допускаются только по приглашениям.

31 марта люди и группы со всего мира отметят День свободы
документов мероприятиями, посвященными распространению информации
об открытых стандартах и открытых форматах документов. Праздник
отмечается под руководством ЕФСПО уже третий год подряд. На сайте кампании есть список идей о том, как
отметить этот день. Давайте праздновать свободу документов вместе!

ACTA — международное соглашение по авторскому праву и патентам,
которое в настоящее время тайно обсуждают некоторые развитые страны.
Официальный текст соглашения не был опубликован, однако множество
документов, попавших в руки общественности, свидетельствуют о том, что
соглашение еще больше ограничит свободу использования и обмена знаниями.
Генеральный директорат Еврокомиссии по вопросам торговли проводит
собрание участников соглашения, чтобы рассказать европейцам о ходе
переговоров. Президент ЕФСПО Карстен Герлофф будет представлять
на собрании интересы свободного программного обеспечения.
Мероприятие публичное, регистрация не требуется. Еврокомиссия заявила
об организации прямой трансляции собрания.

Собрание гамбургской группы членов Содружества ЕФСПО состоится

13 – 14 March 2010
ЕФСПО организует стенд на конференции LinuxTage, одном
из важнейших мероприятий в Германии, посвященных свободному программному
обеспечению. На конференции выступят: Мартин Голловицер в рамках
семинара по смарт-картам
OpenPGP, Лена Симон на тему Женщины
и свободное программное обеспечение, координатор германского филиала
ЕФСПО Матиас Киршнер расскажет о «8 заблуждениях
о свободных программах» и президент ЕФСПО Карстен Герлофф выступит
на тему стратегического
лицензирования. Как и в прошлом году, билет на конференцию стоит
5 евро. Сокращенная плата — 3 евро. Билеты действительны на оба дня
проведения мероприятия. Их можно купить непосредственно на входе
в здание, где проводится конференция. Бронирование не предполагается.

В этом году на выставке CeBIT Европейский фонд свободного программного
обеспечения будут представлять два докладчика. Их выступления будут
посвящены новым аспектам свободного программного обеспечения
и перспективам его развития.
В среду в 13:00 координатор германского филиала ЕФСПО Матиас Киршнер
выступит на тему «8 заблуждений о свободных программах — или просто
ложь?» В четверг в 14:00 президент ЕФСПО Карстен Герлофф выступит
на тему «Открываем рынок для свободных программ: борьба
за совместимость». Оба выступления пройдут во втором зале. Возможна предварительная регистрация.

10 мифов и правда» в Ейпенском центре повышения квалификации (ZAWM).
Выступление будет на немецком языке. В конце будет отведено время

ЕФСПО организует стенд на конференции FOSDEM, общеевропейском мероприятии,
которое проводит сообщество свободного программного обеспечения
для своих членов и сторонников. Конференция FOSDEM — это место встречи
разработчиков и участников проектов, связанных со свободными

Бьёрн Шисле из германского филиала ЕФСПО выступит на семинаре
на Открытой ярмарке в Штутгарте на тему «Свободное программное
обеспечение: больше, чем стратегия развития». Семинар пройдет в субботу

Судьба свободного программного обеспечения во многом зависит
от того, как организации по стандартизации относятся к запатентованным
технологиям. Постоянный
комитет ВОИС по патентному праву — международный орган высшего
уровня по обсуждению этих вопросов. От лица ЕФСПО в защиту интересов
свободного программного обеспечения на заседании Комитета выступят
Карстен Герлофф и Гюго Руа.
