On Thursday, February 9th, at 19:30, the Berlin fellows will meet at the Berlin FSFE office (Linienstrasse 141) for a discussion on various Free Software topics. Come and join us!

As every year for Valentine's Day, the FSFE is planning an online campaign to celebrate this day as an "I love Free Software" - Day. Our online campaign aims at rising awareness to Free Software and the passionate, hard-working people behind it. You can participate in our campaign from all over the world. Show them that you appreciate their work – it could make all the difference!

This year on Valentine's Day, the FSFE organises an "I love Free Software" event at the Unperfekthaus in Essen. We would like to invite all supporters of Free Software to celebrate this day together with us. During the day, there will be workshops and talks concerning various topics about Free Software. In the evening there will be a live concert with four bands that are willing to play in support of Free Software. For more information have a look at our event-page.

The "Chemnitz Linux Days" is a conference that deals with Linux and Open Source Software . It is open for everyone, novizes and experts alike. The FSFE will be present with a booth where you can inform yourself about our work and to get to know the people behind FSFE. In addition, Matthias Kirschner - Fellowship Coordinator and the Coordinator of the German team - will give a speech about "Non-free software advertisement presented by your government" on Saturday, 17.03. at 16:30 in Raum V1.

The Document Freedom Day (DFD) is the global day for document liberation. It is a day which is dedicated to promote the importance of Open Document Formats and Open Standards in general. Various kind of activities are planned by a grassroot movement all over the world. If you like to participate, look how you can get involved.

In July, FSFE will be at RMLL (Libre Software Meeting) the yearly non commercial conference with talks, workshops and round tables about Free Software and its uses. The RMLL goal is to provide a place for exchange between Free Software developers, users and stakeholders. For the first time, RMLL will be in Switzerland; at Geneva's Plainpalais. We're looking forward to meeting many of you!

On February 4 and 5, FSFE will be present at FOSDEM in ULB Campus Solbosch, Brussels, Belgium. Like every year, we're looking forward to many great meetings and discussions, and a very good time for all.

Today, on 17 January 2012, Matthias Kirschner - Fellowship Coordinator of FSFE - gives a talk about "Secure/Zensur Boot: Wer kontrolliert den Computer?". The presentation takes place in the c-base (Rungestrasse 20, 10179 Berlin), and is part of the "Netzpolitische Abend", hosted by the Digitale Gesellschaft - an interest organisation concerned about internet politics and pro digital civil rights. The speech is in German. Admission is free. Event begins at 20:00.

On 7 December 2011 at 19:00 Reinhard Müller gives a talk about “Sustainable IT through Open Standards”. The presentation takes place in the ETH Zurich, Building HG (Rämistrasse 101), Room F33.5, and is hosted by [project 21], a student organisation concerned with sustainability. The speech is in German. Admission is free.

At the 23rd session of WIPO's Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights, FSFE will work with national delegates from around the world to improve conditions for the sharing of knowledge. Negotiations will center on a possible "Broadcasting Treaty", a plan to introduce a new kind of copyright which companies can acquire merely by distributing a movie, image, text or program. Fellowship meeting at 19.00 in MadLab. Discussion will take place about plans for a community decentralised software hosting project, making use of a local community centre for hosting. All Fellows and non-Fellows are cordially invited to attend.

The next Fellowship meeting takes place in Leipzig, 22 November. The meeting starts at 19:30 in sublab , Karl-Heine-Str. 93. Matthias Kirschner, Germany and Fellowship Coordinator will talk about FSFE's work concerning runing and future campaigns.

At 16.10 Richard Stallman will speak about "The Danger of Software Patents". FSFE will have a booth at the event with information and merchandise.

At LinuxCon Europe, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will talk about current issues in Free Software policy. The talk will take place at 10:45 in the Taurus room.

Contact will seek to explore and realize the greater promise of social media to promote new forms of culture, commerce, collective action, and creativity. Technologists, artists, activists, businesspeople, funders, and other stakeholders have been invited to discuss the networked future, and come together to hatch new ideas, connect with new collaborators, and forge an ongoing community for innovating social media and beyond.

Jeremy Bennett will give a presentation on the Free Software and open hardware OpenCores architecture at the BCS Central London Offices, with a talk entitled "Open Source Software Meets Open Source Hardware: OpenCores and the OpenRISC 1000 architecture".

On Thursday, October 13th, at 19:30, the Berlin fellows will meet at the Berlin FSFE office (Linienstrasse 141) for a discussion on various Free Software topics. Come and join us!

FSFE will have a booth at the annual conference of FLOSS UK (formerly UKUUG), the UK's oldest Open Systems User Group, will take place at Manchester Conference Centre.

Matthias Kirschner will give a talk on common misunderstandings about Free Software, for instance 'You cannot earn money with Free Software', 'You cannot have copyright with Free Software', 'Free Software is only useful for programmers', 'If you change Free Software you have to give your changes to the community', 'The GNU GPL only works in the US'. This event will take place as part of Informatik 2011, organized by the Technische Universität Berlin, in in the TU main building Room H 0112, Straße des 17. Juni, EG, from 10 to 11 a.m.

At the EuropeanaTech in Vienna, a conference about exploring the technical challenges of making digital cultural and scientific information easily accessible for the public, Peter Bubestinger will give a talk titled: "Free Software and Open Formats: virtual immortality and independence for digital archives".

The conference will take place at the National Library in Vienna.

Fellowship meeting at 19.00 in MadLab. Gerry Gavigan, chairman of the Open Source Consorium, will travel from London to open the meeting with a talk. All Fellows and non-Fellows are cordially invited to attend.

At the launch conference for a database project on open innovation IT research projects, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff, FSFE's President, will speak on „Free Software and its role in building an innovative economy”. The event will take place at Pl. Politechniki 1, 00-661, Warsaw, Poland.

At 19.00 UK Coordinator Sam Tuke will speak about Freedom Boxes at an event organised by Manchester Free Software Society.

On Saturday, the 17th of September 2011, Software Freedom Day Events are celebrated all around the world, therefore the Vienna Fellowship is inviting you to a Software Freedom Party. The evening will be opened by a talk about legal aspects in Free Software, held by FSFE's new legal coordinator Matija Šuklje. Following this opening everybody is invited to have a nice evening at the Metalab with us. Registration is requested, but not mandatory.

The Software Freedom Day on 17th of September will also be celebrated in Hamburg in Germany. There will be a program with some talks and several free software projects as exhibitors as well as examinations of the Linux Professional Institute. Everyone is welcome to visit us, no matter if you're beginner or already have some free software knowledge.

Software Freedom Day will be celebrated by FSFE Fellows in Manchester at MadLab Hackerspace together with other local Free Software groups. Expect booths and workshops in the afternoon.

Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free Software. Its goal is educational, teaching people why Free Software is the best choice when it comes to using Software. Organised and coordinated by the Software Freedom International, SFD invites everyone to participate and take action on a local level.

Two FSFE representatives will be present at the cross party discussion in Edinburgh, discussing Free Software and Open Standards with a wide range of other public and private organisations.

Do you wish to learn how to check devices' compliance with GPL specifics and become a volunteer in this important campaign? FSFE will take part at the Master on Free Software: September Open Sessions organized by Igalia. 9-24 September 2011 (Friday afternoon and Saturday morning during three weekends) at Edificio para la Obra Social de Novacaixagalicia, Policarpo Sanz St. number 24-26, Vigo (Spain).

FSFE will take part at the Desktop Summit, a joint conference organised by the GNOME and KDE communities in Berlin, Germany, 6 - 12 August 2011 at the Humboldt University.

On the 8th of August, FSFE's president Karsten Gerloff will give a talk on Free desktops for Europe's public sector (10:20-10:50, Rm 3038), FSFE's co-founder Bernhard Reiter will talk about Daily Melee: paid people within Free Software initiatives - How they tick, how to keep them and the art of behaving if you are one (14:00-14:30, Rm 2002).

FSFE will take part in many ways at the RMLL, one of the biggest Free Software events in France, from July 9th to 14th. While of course present with its famous information booth both during the week-end ("journées grand public") and during the week, FSFE also proposes some talks this year.

President Karsten Gerloff will give a talk on Centralised Internet Services and Problems of Power (13.07., 15:20), France Coordinator Hugo Roy will talk about the battle fought by Free Software for HTML5 online videos, UK coordinator Sam Tuke will speak about the FreedomBox concept and practical applications. Several other speakers have also been invited to talk about topics around the decentralisation of the Internet.

On Thursday July 7, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will speak about Free Software to Members of the European Parliament. The presentation together with a representative of APRIL will take place at the first meeting of the Parliament's Intergroup on Free Software and new media in Strasbourg.

Matthias Kirschner, FSFE coordinator for activities in Germany, will present the successful PDFReaders campaign started last Autumn. The concept – removing advertisings for non-free software from public sector organisations' websites – will be explained in detail, as well as the keys to succeed in a similar action.

The talk will take place in "room 41-A fisl 1" on the 1st of July, at 16:00 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

FSFE will have a booth at this year's OKCon in Berlin, on the 29th and 30th of June. Many international speakers such as Richard Stallman will be present and give talks on open knowledge, open data and Free Software.

For this month's fellowship meeting, Michiel de Jong, who also recently gave us an interview, will talk about his project: "Unhosted: How free software can compete with today's hosted software" (in English). Unhosted is a highly significant Free Software project for the future of personal data as well as online applications!

At the 5th European meeting of Green local councillors in Berlin, Germany, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will hold a workshop on Free Software in the public sector. Together with a practicioner from a city that bases its administration on Free Software, Green local councillors from across Europe will discuss how they can make use of Free Software in their own towns.

On Sunday, May the 22nd, FSFE offers a robots workshop in its Berlin office, Linienstraße 141, 10115 Berlin.

Flashed with Free Software, these robots can be programmed very easily to explore the room, follow a black line on the ground, avoid obstacles… The aim being that the participants can then offer such a nice workshop in schools.

The World Information Society Day is a worldwide event dedicated to societal changes brought about by the Internet and new technologies. Take this opportunity to share with your community the advantages of Free Software and the empowering tools that it can offer citizens. Send in your planned and proposed activities to celebrate this day.

FSFE will have a stand at the LinuxTag in Berlin. Of course, everyone is invited to meet us at the booth and have a chat. Furthermore, on Thursday evening, May the 12th, we invite everyone to join us around 7 p.m. to go eat or drink something all together. This will be our Fellowship meeting for May.

On Saturday 30.04.11 (NOT 23.04. as first announced) at 19:00 the first Fellowship meeting in Augsburg will take place, and you're very welcome to the event! The meeting will be held in the Café Bistro Bismarck, Bismarckstr. 7, 86159 Augsburg. There is no fixed program but many ideas and topics to discuss! We simply want to get together and chat about Free Software.

At Ignite Amsterdam 8, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will present the ideas of Free Software and explain why Freedom matters in the digital society. The Ignite event will take place at Mediamatic Bank, Vijzelstraat 68, 1017 HL Amsterdam . Doors open at 20:00.

On Thursday, April the 14th, at 7:30 p.m., the Berlin fellows will meet at FSFE's Berlin office (Linienstraße 141) for a discussion round on various topics. Come and debate with us!

At the annual all-day event in Graz, lots of presentation talks and information booths offer visitors the possibility to catch up on information about GNU/Linux, Free Software and related projects. The event location is the FH Joanneum and the event is an absolute 'must see' for everyone interested in those topics.
FSFE will be present with a information booth, and Peter Bubestinger holds a speech titled "Free Software and art(ists): Here be dragons!"

At this year's "Landesjugendkongress", organised by the youth wing of the German Green Party, Björn Schießle will hold a workshop about Free Software. The workshop will take place in Würzburg, Germany.

A public conference and panel discussion about Free Software will be hosted by Germany's SPD party. The meeting takes place (in German) at the Bundesparteizentrale, Wilhelmstraße 141 / Ecke Stresemannstraße, at 7 p.m.

Bernhard Reiter, an experienced & long-standing FSFE member will deliver a speech, the theme of the event is "Cost-effectiveness improvement through Free Software implementation". Nicolas Jean will attend with further information materials.

Manchester's first local Fellowship meeting takes place this Thursday at 19.00, and the first Thursday of each following month! All Fellows and non-Fellows are cordially invited to attend MadLab, who have generously agreed to host us. This initial meeting will be used to plan topics and activities for future meetings.

FSFE is getting 10 years this month. A good age to celebrate with you. In Berlin we start on Thursday evening at 21:00 in the C-Base, Rungestraße 20, 10179 Berlin (S+U Jannowitzbrücke). "You are a software company or start-up in this field and wish to have an overview of your possibilities to earn woney with Free Software?". This question is the starting point of the "Earn Money With Free Software" conference, organised by the Technologiestiftung Berlin. They want to bring many people with different backgrounds to offer a large panel of answers. FSFE is present with an information and merchandise booth at the 10th "Linux-Infotag Augsburg". Further Björn Schießle will give a talk about the prospective challenges for Free Software. The event takes place on 26 March 2011 from 9:30 to 17:30 in the IT faculty of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences. Admission is free.

FSFE President Karsten Gerloff will give a talk at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany. He will speak about "Freedom, Software and Power" on March the 3rd, at 15:30. His talk will take place in Hall 2, booth F40.

Members of FSFE's British Team will attend the UK's first ODF Plugfest in Maidenhead, near London. The goal of the event is to improve interoperability between ODF implementations, and discuss new and proposed features of the ODF specification.

This month again, the Berlin Fellowship meeting will be in the Newthinking Store, in the Tucholskystr. 48, 10117 Berlin. We'll be there from 19:30. Ali Gündüz will make a presentation there on "Free Software GSM". The talk will be aimed at those without any prior knowledge of GSM protocols. "You have gotten used to the idea of Android and Meego? Let's see what you'll think about the possibility of Free Software handling what your cell phone is primarily made for" announces Ali Gündüz. At a conference in Badajoz, in the Spanish region of Extremadura, public administrations from across Europe are exchanging experiences and plans regarding Free Software. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff has been invited to share recent developments in European policy concerning Free Software and Open Standards.

At WIPO's committee on development and "intellectual property", WIPO's member states will debate how rules for copyright, patents and trademarks can help to promote social and economic development. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff and intern Maelle Costa will participate to give FSFE's input to the discussion. Topics on the agenda include collaborative projects and patents.

Technology standards are a powerful tool to promote or stifle software innovation. For Free Software, it is critical that even patented technologies which are included in standards can be implemented without restrictions. At a conference in Brussels organised by the European Commission, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will participate in a panel on Free Software and standardisation.

At this year's South Tyrol Free Software Conference, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will speak about Free Software and business innovation. Henrik Sandklef of FSFE's Swedish team will give an overview of the situation regarding Free Software in Sweden.

FSFE has been invited by the Berlin Debating Union to make a speech at its first Knowledge Sharing Evening of the year. Matthias Kirschner's speech will begin at 7p.m., and then the public will have time to ask questions. on 8.15p.m., a debate around the topic of Free Software will start. Therefore, the Berlin Fellowship meeting of November 11th will exceptionnally take place in the Humboldt University's main building, in the Orbis Humboldtianus, above the Audimax (entrance Dorotheenstr 17). FSFE is co-organising the Free Society Conference and Nordic Summit (FSCONS). 'Divide and Reconquer: Regaining Control Of Our Communications' will be FSFE's own track, including five talks exploring freedom and control in everyday online communication.

The Fontys University of Applied Science in Eindhoven hosts the 5th edition of T-DOSE on November 6-7 2010. FSFE will present a booth with information and materials about Free Software. The precise schedule of the event is available online. We are looking forward to see you there !

The University of Potsdam hosts the 7th Brandenburger Linux Information day (BLIT). FSFE will present a booth with information and materials about Free Software in higher education, and in the workplace. The European Commission's Diretorate General Information Society is organising a day of workshops to develop "Big Ideas" for the Commission's Digital Agenda. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will participate to explore possibilities for a free cloud.

Georg Greve, FSFE's Founder, will speak at the TEDxRheinNeckar event in the university of Mannheim, Germany. Georg's talk will deal with the "Meaning of Free Software for society". At the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva, the Standing Committee on the Law of Patents meets for its 15th session. Topics to be discussed include the patentability of software and the relation between patents and standards. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff is participating in the meeting in order to help create rules, laws and practices that are favourable to Free Software.

At the IRILL conference on Free Software research taking place in Paris, France, both FSFE's current President Karsten Gerloff and founding President Georg Greve will speak during the opening session. Karsten's talk is titled "Enlightening! Free Software research in context". Georg will discuss "Free Software and the playing field". Attendance is free of charge, but registration is required.

Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free Software. On 17 and 18 September 2010, the first FrOSCamp will take place on the premises of the ETH Zurich in the CHN building of the Zentrum campus, Universitätsstrasse 16, Zurich. Reinhard Müller will hold a speech titled "Free yourself - how to save the world in five easy steps" (in German), and FSFE will present its work and the Fellowship at an information booth. Admission to the event is free of charge, and no registration is required.

Karsten Gerloff, FSFE's President, will speak at a workshop of this year's Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Vilnius, Lithuania. The subject is "Data in the Cloud: Where do Open Standards fit in?". The workshop will take place on Thursday, September the 16th, from 14:15 to 16:15. FSFE has been involved in the IGF since its first edition in 2006, and is part of the Dynamic Coalition on Open Standards.

The Berlin Linux User Group – BeLUG – meets on the 15th of September, 2010, at 18:00 for a presentations evening. Torsten Grote (FSFE) will speak about Cloud Computing & Software as a Service (SaaS). Karsten Gerloff, FSFE's President, will speak at the TEDxEutropolis event in Heerlen, Netherlands, organized by the TEDx program of the TED (Technology, Entertainment & Design). The Eutropolis intends to gather the brightest ideas to forge an economic and cultural centre out of border regions of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Karsten's talk will start at 11:35. The Department of Business Information Management and Logistics of the Technical University Tampere and the Agora Center of the University Jyväskylä have done a study about Free Software in Finnish schools. On 12 May 2010 at 18:00 in Demola, Väinö Linnan aukio 15, 3rd floor, Tampere, researcher Kimmo Wideroos will present the results and conclusions, and afterwards there will be an open discussion about the potential and possibilities of Free Software in schools.

For three days, the old Vienna town hall hosts this year's "Linuxwochen" event with many interesting talks, information booths and workshops. FSFE will be present with a information booth, and Peter Bubestinger holds a speech titled "Freedom of education in the digital age? Free Software!"

FSFE is receiving this year's Theodor Heuss Medal. On Friday, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will speak on "Capitalism and Responsibility" during a colloquium organised by the Theodor Heuss Foundation. Gesine Schwan, a former candidate for the President of Germany, will open this event on "The social market economy and globalisation". The award ceremony will take place on Saturday from 10:30 to 12:15. It will be recorded by the German TV channel Phoenix. Both events are by invitation only. We have a small number of invitations left. Please contact the German team if you would like to join us. Friday's event will take place from 14:00 to 18:00 at Literaturhaus Stuttgart. The award ceremony on Saturday will take place at the Alte Reithalle Stuttgart.

On 6 May it is once again time for a Fellowship-meeting in Gothenburg. The meeting will be held at Gnutiken in Övre Husargatan 27, and will commence at 6 pm. Everyone are invited.

Starting at 9:00am, the Donau-Universität Krems invites teachers, pupils, parents and everyone interested to inform themselves about the benefits of using Free Software and GNU/Linux in school environments. The FSFE will be present with a stand, and Peter Bubestinger will give a speech titled "Freedom of education in the digital age? Free software!" (in German).

On 25 April 7pm Matthias Kirschner will explain what Free Software is, talk about its importance for society and why politicians should bother about this topic. Organiser of the event is the youth organisation of the Green party. Everybody interested is invited to join the presentation and the discussion afterwards. A whole day at the FH Joanneum stuffed with presentations and talks offers the possibility for interested users, system administrators and software developers to extend their knowhow about GNU/Linux and Free Software. On 21 April 6pm Matthias Kirschner will give a talk at the BLUG in Berlin to talk about the importance of Free Software for our society. The speech takes place in the Lehrter Straße 53, 10557 Berlin-Mitte. Everybody interested in Free Software is invited to the speech.

The event at the University of Arts in Linz offers workshops, hacklabs, presentations and performances in the area of digital arts and culture. FSFE is present with a booth where everybody is welcome to talk about Free Software over a nice cup of coffee.

The Finnish team coordinator Otto Kekäläinen holds a presentation (in Finnish) about the Free Software Foundation Europe, which after the evening continues with informal discussion about free software.

This conference will provide legal experts a forum for discussions on supply chain management, compliance procedures, licence management and other legal issues related to the growth of the European Free Software market. There is limited space available at the event and attendance for non-network members is by invitation only.

On March 31, people and groups around the world will celebrate Document Freedom Day to raise awareness for Open Standards and open document formats. ACTA is an international agreement on copyright and patents which several developed countries are currently negotiating in secret. While no official texts have been published, numerous leaked documents indicate that the treaty would further restrict our freedom to share and re-use knowledge. The European Commission's DG TRADE is holding a stakeholders' consultation meeting to inform Europeans about the state of play of the negotiations. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will attend the meeting and represent the interests of Free Software.

The event is open to the public, but registration is required. The European Commission promises to make a web stream of the event available.

A Fellowship meeting takes place on 18 March 2010 in Zurich. FSFE will have a booth at “LinuxTage”, one of the most important event about Free Software in Germany. The event will feature Martin Gollowitzer's OpenPGP smartcard workshop, and talks by Lena Simon on Women and Free Software, FSFE's German Coordinator Matthias Kirschner about 8 misunderstandings of Free Software and FSFE's President, Karsten Gerloff, will speak of Strategic Licensing. As in the last years a ticket for the conference will cost € 5. Reduced fee will be € 3. Tickets are valid on both days and can be bought directly at the entrance to the conference. A reservation is neither necessary nor possible. A ticket pre-sale is also not planned. At this year's CeBIT, FSFE is represented with two speakers, bringing new insights and taking a look ahead at what the future holds. On Wednesday at 13:00, FSFE's Germany coordinator Matthias Kirschner will present "8 Misunderstandings about Free Software - or are they lies?" On Thursday at 14:00, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will speak about "Opening up the market for Free Software: The battle for Interoperability". Both talks will take place in Hall 2. Registration for the event is possible.

Starting Wednesday, March 3, the Gothenburg FSFE team is reviving its Fellowship group with monthly meetings. The meetings will take place in Gnutiken at 18:00, and are open to everyone.

FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will speak about "Free Software: 10 Myths and the Truth" at the Eupen Center for Further Education (ZAWM). The talk will be in German. During February Fellows can elect a second representative for FSFE's General Assembly. The Fellow who will be elected will serve a two year term.

The Berlin Fellowship group will meet at the NewthinkingStore at 7.30 pm in Tucholskystraße 48. Ali Gündüz will talk about complete free GNU/Linux Distributions. Another topic will be the FOSDEM 2010 and the DFD organisation. Guests are always welcome.

The Stuttgart Fellowship group will meet at Sophies Brauhaus on 11 February 2010 at 8.00 pm in Marienstraße 28. Thomas Jensch will talk about FSFEs Edu-Team. Another topic will be the re-start of a regular Fellowship meeting in Stuttgart.

FSFE will have a booth at FOSDEM, the ultimate European event organized by the community, for the community. The goal of this meeting is to provide Free Software developers a place to meet. No registration necessary. The event takes place at ULB Campus Solbosh, 50 Avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1050 Bruxelles.

Björn Schießle from the German team will give a speech at the Stuttgart Open Fair. His talk "Free Software - More than just a Development strategy" will be part of a workshop. The workshop will take place at Saturday, 30. January, 11-13 o'clock. Location: Forum3, Gymnasiumstr. 21, Stuttgart, Germany.

For Free Software, a lot depends on the way in which standardisation organisations deal with patented technologies. The WIPO Standing Committee on the Law of Patents is the highest level forum dealing with this question. For FSFE, Karsten Gerloff and Hugo Roy will participate in the meeting to advance the interests of Free Software.

With the growing interest attached to Free Software law issues, the second edition of the EOLE will take place in Brussels, in the prestigious confines of the European Parliament. FSFE President Karsten Gerloff will give a speech about “Welcome to the mainstream: Free Software in Europe” on December 2nd. The Free Software World Conference is jointly organised by the Spanish regional governments of Extremadura and Andalusia. The event is public.

The European Commission's project on interoperability for eGovernment services is organising and information day on the European Interoperability Strategy. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will participate in the discussions to make sure that the voice of Free Software and Open Standards is heard.

The monthly Fellowship meeting in Dusseldorf will take place on 25 November in the Restaurant “Friedrichskrone”, Talstraße/Kirchfeldstraße.

FSFE will be present with a booth at this years Brandenburger Linux Info Tag (BLIT). The Fellowship Group Berlin will man a booth to inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software. Thanks the consistent support by FSFE and other organisations, the WIPO Development Agenda is finally on the way to implementation. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will participate in the meeting of the Committee on November 16th to 20th to make sure that Free Software and Open Standards take their place in this process. FSFE is a registered observer to WIPO. The event is not open to the public.

This year's FSCONS (Free Society Conference and Nordic Summit) takes place on November 13-15 and is co-organised by Fellows of FSFE. More than simply a conference, FSCONS is a meeting place for social change, focussing on the future of Free Software and how to build a Free Society on its principles. OpenRheinRuhr 2009 in Bottrop is the largest exhibition concerning Free Software in Germany's Ruhr Area. Some of our German Fellows help to organize this convention or present Free Software projects they are working on. Hence FSFE will not miss the opportunity to contribute to this event with a booth. On November 7 and 8 we bring the idea of Free Software and its related topics to the public again. This time we intent to cross the border from IT into the Arts by providing a discussion lounge to broach the issues of "Software as a cultural technique" and "Coding as an art". Unlike proprietary software, the Free Software requirements are not about remuneration, but about maintaining the Freedom of users of the software to use, study, modify and distribute. That places some interesting requirements on manufacturers of devices that use this software.

The Library of Alexandria, Egypt, is holding a three-day workshop to introduce judges, lawyers, and researchers from Egypt and the Arab world to new tools for the dissemination of knowledge. With representatives of Egypt's supreme court in attendance, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will be leading two sessions in the workshop, one on the history and basic concepts of Free Software, and the other on Free Software licensing.

The Vienna Fellowship Group invites you to celebrate the Software Freedom Day with us at Metalab. The four freedoms are celebrated with free music (as in freedom) and gratis snacks (which unfortunately are not free). We are looking forward to many visitors!

From September 18-19 Matthias Kirschner will be in Leipzig to participate at the Software Freedom Day. The celebration starts on Friday at 6 pm in the sublab, Karl-Heine-Straße 93 04229 Leipzig. There will be cake and everything else you need to celebrate Free Software. On Saturday 2 pm Matthias will give a talk about Free Software and the Software Freedom Day at the street festival. This speech will also take place in the Karl-Heine-Straße 93. Afterwards there will be a small FSFE booth, to answer questions around Free Software. Everybody is invited to join.

The so-called "Braderie de Lille" (Lille's flea market) is a big outside-event which has taken place every year since the 12th century during the first week-end of september. chtinux, a Linux User Group which is installed around there, has proposed to the Fellowship, as it did last year, to take part in the Braderie. The FSFE, and especially the Fellowship's stand, will get much visibility, since millions of people of numerous nations take a walk on Lille's streets. Come to discover this beautiful city and to eat some Braderie's culinary specialities like clams ! And above all, come in order to support the Fellowship ! As part of the OpenRuhr initiative the "Uploadparty" takes place on September 5. The goal of the monthly uploadparties is to enlarge free culture in the Ruhr area. At this event everybody can bring his own paper pictures from the area, scan them, and make them available under the Creative Commons By license. Matthias Kirschner is participating at the event which takes place at 6pm in the Unperfekthaus, Friedrich-Ebert-Str. 18, 45127 Essen.

The 10th RMLL, Rencontre Mondial de Logiciel Libre (LSM, Libre Software Meeting) is taking place at Nantes. Rainer Kersten will organise a FSFE booth there.

RMLL is the most important Free Software event at France. This year, GNU/Linux User Group Nantes is expecting some 5000 visitors at the University of Nantes.

As one of the biggest events of its kind in Eastern Europe, eLiberatica discusses and demonstrates the advantages of adopting, using and developing Free Software solutions. Georg Greve, president of the FSFE, will talk about the challenges of the traditional standardisation system, the role of patenting and the mechanisms that allow us to cope with legal issues.

On Thursday 7. May, Bernhard Reiter will give a talk at the University of Stuttgart (campus Vaihingen) about "Professional Free Software in Economy and Politics" as part of the lecture "Free/Libre and Open Source Software Engineering". He will talk about Free Software in general, categories of Free Software licenses, software patents, Open Standards and more. The talk will start at 11:30 lecture room V55.01.

On Wednesday 6. May, the next Fellowship meeting in Stuttgart will take place. This time Bernhard Reiter, FSFE's coordinator Germany, will attend. We will meet at Unithekle Stuttgart/Vaihingen. The exact time will be published in the wiki. Here you can also find further details.

For the first time a Free Software event will take place in the region of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. Georg Greve, president of the FSFE, will take that opportunity to talk about Free Software business basics, its strategies and implications.
The TILT 2009 aims at presenting specific solutions made in Portugal as well as inspiring young people to get involved.

The event at the Kunstuniversität Linz (university of art) offers workshops, hacklabs, presentations and performances in the field of digital art and culture productions. The FSFE will be present with an info table stand, so feel free to come by for a cup of coffee and a nice chat about Free Software!

A whole day stuffed with presentations and talks at the FH Joanneum gives interested desktop-users, administrators, software developers and others, the possibility to enhance their know how about GNU/Linux and Free Software. The FSFE will be present with a stand, and Peter Bubestinger will give a speech titled "Safely into the Future with Free Software".

The second European Licensing and Legal Workshop organised by the Freedom Task Force of the FSFE will be held at the Hotel Okura on the 23rd and the 24th of April 2009 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. For 3 days, Vienna's city hall will be hosting this year's Linux weeks with lots of interesting talks, stands and workshops. The FSFE will be present with a stand, and Peter Bubestinger will give a speech titled "Safely into the Future with Free Software". The speech is in German and targeted at everybody interested in Free Software.

On 15 April, Fellows and other interested parties are invited to attend an open planning meeting and get-together to discuss FSCONS 2009. The meeting starts at 19:00 in Delirium Café, Kronhusgatan 2B.

FSCONS, the annual conference on Free Software and Free Culture, will take place in Gothenburg 13-15 November, and is this year co-arranged by the Fellowship.

Starting at 8:45am, the Donau-Universität Krems invites teachers, pupils, parents and everyone interested to inform themselves about the benefits of using Free Software and GNU/Linux in school environments. The FSFE will be present with a stand, and Peter Bubestinger will give a speech titled "Freedom of education through Free Software" (in German).

From 25. to 28. March the "Frühjahrsfestival zum Datenschutz" will take place at the public library at Stuttgart, Germany. At Saturday 28. March 14:00 Björn Schießle will give a speech about "Free Software and Privacy". The speech ought to deliver a general introduction to Free Software and how it can help to improve privacy.

After the LinuxInfotag in Augsburg, Fellows from the region meet in the Restaurant Alt-Athen, where the LinuxInfotag's social event also takes place.

All Fellows are cordially invited. If you want to join, please meet the FSFE team at LinuxInfotag before 16:00 so we can inform the restaurant early enough.

FSFE is present with an information and merchandise booth at the 8th Linux-Infotag Augsburg. The event takes place on 28 March 2009 from 9:30 to 17:30 in the IT faculty of the Augsburg University. Admission is free.

Reinhard Müller gives a speech called "5 most popular fallacys about Free Software (or are they lies?)". The speech is in German and targeted at everybody interested in Free Software.

Wednesday 25 March is the global day for document liberation. The day will be dedicated to promoting open document standards, with local events all across the globe. Document Freedom Day (DFD) is a grassroot movement promoting and raising awareness for Open Standards, and has over 220 teams across the world.

The European Legal Network facilitated by FSFE's Freedom Task Force will hold a special interest group meeting in Frankfurt to discuss linking. This meeting will be hosted at the WilmerHale offices and is invitation only.

This year's Linuxweeks in Austria start at the university in Klagenfurt. There will be plenty of interesting talks and several stands, including the FSFE. Peter Bubestinger will give a speech titled "Safely into the Future with Free Software". The speech is in German and targeted at everybody interested in Free Software.

As usual, we will attend at Chemnitz with a booth, which is manned by Isabel Drost, Uwe Zemisch and Rainer Kersten. Beside informations about our work we will offer devotionals.

On 12 March Torsten Werner and Michael Schinagl, who both participated in the standardisation process of the proprietary Microsoft OOXML standard, will talk about their experiences in this process. The Berlin Fellowship group invites all people interested to participate. We start at 19:30 in the Newthinkingstore, Tucholskystr. 48, Berlin. After that we will discuss future activities for this year.

The FSFE will be present with an information booth at the CeBIT in Hanover. The event takes place from 3 March 2009 to 8 March 2009. The booth will be located in hall 6/F50.

Bernhard Reiter, Coordinator Germany, will deliver a speech "Free Software, the sustainable alternative" at the CeBIT in Hanover. The speech is scheduled on 7 March 2009 at 14:20hrs in Hall 8 and will be delivered in German.

Shane Coughlan, FTF coordinator, will deliver a speech entitled "The strategic implementation of Free Software in business" at the CeBIT in Hanover (Hall 6, Open Source Forum). The speech is scheduled on 5 March 2009 at 16:15hrs and will be delivered in English.

The local Fellowship Group will meet on 12 February, 19:30 at NewThinkingStore, Tucholskystraße 48. Jürgen Neumann from Freifunk-Berlin and Fabienne Serriere will give a talk about "Open Hardware" in English. Main questions are what Open Hardware is and why we need it. Afterwards there will be room for questions and a discussion. People interested in this topic and other guest are as always welcome to join us.

FSFE attends FOSDEM, a European Free Software developer conference organized by volunteers wich takes place from 7th - 8th of February in Brussels (Belgium).

The event promotes the widespread use of Free Software, to provide Free Software developers and communities a place to meet, to get in touch with other projects, and to promote the development and the benefits of Free Software solutions.

The FSFE will attend the event with a booth where visitors will be informed about recent activities (especially of FTF), Free Software itself and the Fellowship of the FSFE. As usual, the FSFE's merchandising articles will be sold as well.

Venerdì 30 Gennaio a Stoccarda si terrà un evento congiunto tra KDE e la Fellowship di FSFE: avremo infatti un incontro della Fellowship e una festa per il rilascio di KDE 4.2. Insieme a KDE festeggeremo il rilascio, e ci troveremo insieme per discutere e divertirci. Ovviamente avremo una presentazione di KDE 4.2 e un'introduzione a FSFE e alla Fellowship. Mercoledì 28 Gennaio a Zurigo, Svizzera, ci sarà  una festa per segnalare il rilascio di KDE 4.2. L'evento si terrà  presso l'Auditorium Maximum dell'ETH Zurich, a partire dalle 17:30. Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a two day course entitled 'Free Software licenses and other questions' at the Digicomp Academy Zurich, Switzerland. The course is intended for project managers, developers and technicians who wish to become more knowledgeable regarding code distribution options.

This month, the Vienna Fellowship meeting will be in the Metalab, located in the Rathausstraße 6 in the 1st district of Vienna. We'll be there from 18:00, with agenda related discussions starting at 19:00. As usual, this invitation is for everyone interested in the FSFE or Free Software. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

It is time for a new tradition! A Christmas get-together for Fellows and others in Gothenburg, with technical help for all those interested in Free Culture and Free Software. FFKP (Union for Free Culture and Software) and FSFE (Free Software Foundation Europe) invite you to a get-together with glögg (spiced wine), coffee, cookies and cakes. There will also be a presentation of the FFKP and some of the avtivities planned for 2009. Jeremiah Foster will be there as well offering help for GNU/Linux and other Free Software to anyone who needs it.

The local Fellowship group will meet on the 11th of december. The location is as always the NewThinkingStore at Tucholskystraße. Since Christmas is almost there, we will do some handicraft to improve our booth material and the flyer for our projects.

FSFE will be holding its regular Zurich Fellowship group meeting next Thursday, 11th December at 18:00 CET. We'll also be celebrating the upcoming holiday season with Glühwein (mulled wine) and other goodies! We hope to see you there. Sabato 15 novembre, dalle 14:00 in poi, presso il TIS Innovation Park di Bolzano, si svolgerà un incontro rivolto ai Fellow italiani e alle persone interessate ai temi come la presenza in Italia di FSFE ed il progetto della Fellowship. L'incontro è diviso in due parti. Nella prima, Patrick Ohnewein, coordinatore del gruppo italiano di FSFE, parlerà di FSFE in Italia e della Fellowship. Nella seconda parte, i Fellow sono invitati a discutere e proporre delle iniziative da portare avanti con l'aiuto degli altri Fellow, in favore del Software Libero.

The FSFE will be attending the NLUUG Autumn Conference on Thursday 6th November. This year's theme is 'mobility'. Feel free to come to our booth and ask about Free Software! Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will also deliver talk entitled 'The strategic implementation of free software in business' at the CELF Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2008 at the same location on the following day, Friday 7th November. The successful implementation of Free Software requires an understanding of the best policy and processes applicable to its context. Shane will discuss how FSFE's legal project and its European Legal Network have engaged with this issue by producing generic market knowledge for supply and purchasing contracts, work flow documents and deployment methodology. The location for both conferences is Hotel en Congrescentrum De Reehorst, Ede, Netherlands.

FSFE will be present with a booth at this years Brandenburger Linux Info Tag (BLIT). The Fellowship Group Berlin will man a booth to inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software. Also T-shirts and books about Free Software will be sold. The event starts at 10 am and takes place at the University Campus Griebnitzsee in Potsdam. Admission is free as in free beer.

Fellow Christof Raber will host a Fellowship meeting at Weltehof, Welte 1, 88250 Weingarten on Tuesday the 28th of October at 19:00. All Fellows and Free Software supporters nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, discuss all Free Software and FSFE related topics and to generally have a good time.

For 2008, FSCONS is a collaboration of FSFE, Creative Commons, and Wikimedia Sweden. There will be three tracks (Free Culture, Free Software, Free Content), each lead by one of the main organisers. Topics will range from modern kernel design over citizen journalism all the way across to licensing in the 21st century.

From 21. October to 24. October the SYSTEMS will take place in Munich, Germany. SYSTEMS is a professional business-to-business exhibition for the ICT market and addresses business and technical decision-makers in commercial enterprises and the public sector.
For the first time FSFE will be present with a booth.

On Wednesday the 22th of October at 19:00 OpenOffice.org and FSFE will host together the OpenOffice.org regulars' table and the first Fellowship meeting in Munich, Germany. It will take place at the Augustinerkeller, Arnulfstraße, Munich (www.augustinerkeller.de)

A Belgian Fellowship meeting will take place on Thursday August 7th in Brussels. We will meet at 20:00 in Café Walvis, 209 rue Antoine Dansaert, Brussels. It's an informal meeting, like the last meeting, so we'll mostly chat about whatever Free Software topics the attendees are interested in. We'll also continue the discussion of how to launch quarterly meetings, and Ciaran O'Riordan will give an update on OpenStreetMap. This meeting can be discussed on FSFE's Benelux mailinglist.

The Fellowship Group in Berlin will meet on the 10th October at 19:30. We will evaluate past actions like 25 years GNU and Software Freedom Day. The GNU-project is turning 25 on the 27th of September. Therefore we will pop the corks at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. We will meet at 3pm. There will be champaign and some music to celebrate. See you on saturday.

Shane Coughlan, FTF coordinator, will deliver a speech entitled 'The strategic implementation of Free Software in business' at the OpenExpo conference in Winterthur, Switzerland, on the 25th of September.

On Saturday 20. September starting at 14:00 FFII and FSFE's Fellowship group from Berlin will have barbecue and an information booth. At the booth we will explain what Free Software is and why it is important for society. This event should give beginners a chance to get in contact with Free Software, GNU/Linux and the involved groups. Please bring your own dishes and drinks to the Mauerpark in the opposite of Gleimstr. 60.

Starting at 8pm, Vienna's Fellows celebrate the annual "Software Freedom Day" in a Pub called Pint Pub in Vienna. Highlight of the event will be the performances of the bands: "Club Valat" and "Klaus (from Fadin' to Whiteout)". Of course this event is also for non-computerfreaks.

The so-called "Braderie de Lille" (Lille's flea market) is a big outside-event which has taken place every year since the 12th century during the first week-end of september. chtinux, a Linux User Group which is installed around there, has proposed to the Fellowship to take part in the Braderie. The FSFE, and especially the Fellowship's stand, will get much visibility, since millions of people of numerous nations take a walk on Lille's streets. Come to discover this beautiful city and to eat some Braderie's culinary specialities like clams ! And above all, come in order to support the Fellowship ! The Vienna Fellowship Group invites to a speech of Shane Martin Coughlan about "The Professionalisation of Free Software. Where we are going next." (in Englisch). The event which is organised in the context of a q/talk special takes place in Room D / quartier21, QDK / Electric Avenue, MQ Wien on 5 September 2008, starting at 20:00. Entrance is from 19:00. The speech will be finished around 21:15, after that there will be opportunity to ask questions. Admission is free.

At 18:30 on 30 August 2008, Duesseldorf Fellowship will meet in Gasttaette "Suedstern", Bilker Allee 66, 40219 Duesseldorf (5 min vom S-Bahnhof Bilk). Shane M. The Department of Computer Science of the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg is organising a conference all about Free Software in 2008 again with help of Fachschaft of Computer Science, LUUSA and FrOSCon e.V.

There will be a Fellowship meeting at the FSFE Zurich office from 18:00 until 19:30 on Friday the 18th of July. Some free (as in beer) beer will be provided and all Fellows nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, to discuss ways of spreading the word about Free Software in Switzerland, and to generally have a good time. This meeting will be hosted by Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of FSFE's legal activities. However, he promises not to talk about licences unless someone asks. A lunch for Fellows of FSFE and Free Software friends in Barcelona from 14:00 until 16:00 with FSFE's Georg Greve, Jonas Öberg and Shane Coughlan. The meeting will be for informal and friendly discussions about FSFE, the Fellowship, the work of the Freedom Task Force, and everything else that you want to contribute to the discussion. SELF has contributed on various levels to freedom in software and education. The work of the SELF Legal Experts Group (LEG) has helped to evolve a better understanding of Open Standards and provided a reference line for free educational materials. The coordinator of the SELF LEG, FSFE president Georg Greve, will provide an insight on how SELF has helped advance the state of the art, and how the work done in the SELF consortium will provide lasting benefit to the Free Software community.

Shane will talk about the types of licence that provide and protect freedoms of use, study, sharing and improvement in both technology and educational text. He will review the main challenges that platforms like SELF may encounter from the legal point of view and what kind of mechanisms help support reliable legal infrastructure. He will also discuss the work of FSFE's Freedom Task Force in providing education and support services relating to legal support for Free Software in Europe.

The local Fellowship group in Berlin will have a joined barbecue with the FFII on the 10th of July. The meeting will start at 7:30pm in FFII office, which is located at the Malmöer Straße 6 close to Bornholmer Straße. Don't forget to bring you favourite barbecue stuff. If the weather permits, we will go to the Mauerpark at around 9pm. We love to welcome you there.

A Belgian Fellowship meeting will take place on 10 July in Brussels. We meet at 19:00 in café Walvis, 209 rue Antoine Dansaert, Brussels. It's a chance to inform others about your activities in the Free Software community and there will be talk of gNewSence and GPLv3.
The meeting is open to Fellows and non-Fellows interested in Free Software. We are looking forward to many attendants!

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a speech entitled 'The Community and Meeting Obligations' for BT at 14:30 on the 2nd of July at Adastral Park in Ipswitch, UK. He will also be present for presentations and workshop sessions to be delivered with other parties on the same day.

A local Fellowship meeting will be held in Dublin on June 24th. Everyone interested in Free Software is welcome and invited to meet inside The White Horse at 20h00. This will also be the monthly meeting of Irish Free Software Organisation. Expected topics include OOXML, software patents, gNewSense, and the Fellowship. Discussion can take place on the fsfe-ie mailing list.

Shane Coughlan will represent FSFE's FTF at IOTC 2008 in Dublin, Ireland. He will deliver a speech to open the conference on Wednesday the 18th of June discussing Free Software in business. Other speakers include Graham Taylor from Open Forum Europe, Adam Jollans from IBM and Stephen McGibbon from Microsoft. Interesting discussions and debates are assured.

This year's General Assembly of FSFE takes place in Zurich, and as usual, there will be a social event where the members of the General Assembly meet Fellows and other local Free Software supporters.
Around 18:20 the crowd will leave from the FSFE office at Sumatrastrasse 25 and walk through the old town in direction to Bellview.
At 19:00 we will catch a ferry from Zurich Burkiplatz.
At 19:47 the ferry will arrive in Erlenbach where -- due to the weather conditions -- we will continue the evening with a nice dinner at the Restaurant Malabar Garden in Kuesnacht where we expect to be until at least 23:00.

On Saturday 31th May 14-15 pm, Matthias Kirschner will give a speech at Linuxtag in Berlin. The talk is about the importance of the four freedoms to use, study, share and improve software and their influence in politics and economy. Target audience are beginners, or people who want to get some ideas how to explain this topic to beginners. The speech takes place at the BusinessForum (EG) and will be held in German.

As in the last years FSFE will be present with a booth (hall 7.2b, booth 122) at LinuxTag 2008. It takes place at Berlin's Expo Center under the Funkturm. FSFE will inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software, like the Freedom Task Force, software patents, the SELF project, GPLv3, our work in the United Nations, or the Fellowship of FSFE. Also it is planned to sell T-shirts from FSFE and books about Free Software.

From 15 to 17 May, an event of the Linuxwochen Austria will take place in the building of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, Rudolf-Sallinger-Platz 1, 3rd district, Vienna.
A group of Fellows will be present with a booth where they inform about FSFE, the Fellowship, and Free Software in general.

FSFE's Freedom Task Force will host the first European Licensing and Legal Workshop for Free Software on Friday the 11th of April in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The venue for this meeting is the InterContinental Amstel Hotel. The event is targeted towards large projects and medium to large enterprises wishing to discuss their existing licence compliance processes. Parties attending are expected to contribute to issues ranging from process development through to optimising purchasing contract language for the benefit of the European Free Software community. This workshop has limited space available and therefore attendance is by invitation only. Projects and companies interested in attending this event should contact the FTF at ftf at fsfeurope.org.

On the 2nd of April FSFE and its Freedom Task Force (FTF) will give a course on the Strategic implementation of Free Software in Business in collaboration with the Internet Academy. Friday, 29 March, the first Fellowship meeting in Augsburg will take place.
We are going to meet in the "Thing" bar, Vorderer Lech 45, 86150 Augsburg, right after the GNU/Linux infoday Augsburg. We expect to be there around 18:30.

The Duesseldorf Fellowship group proudly announces its next meeting on 28 November at 19:30 in the Pub "Südstern", Bilker Allee 66 in Düsseldorf. Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of the Freedom Task Force, will talk about Free Software licensing, business processes, and how the Free Software movement has moved deep into the mainstream of ICT deployment. Werner Koch will report about a public debate in the parliament of NRW regarding Security versus Freedom.

A number of Free Software related events will happen around the Internet Governance Forum in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
On 11 November, a discussion oriented conference with the title "Digital Inclusion: Accelerating Global Participation and Access through Open ICT Standards" takes place from 8:30 to 17:30.
The Dynamic Coalition on Open Standards sponsors an Open Workshop titled "The Intersection of Open ICT Standards, Development, and Public Policy" on 12 November from 15:30 to 17:00, and a Best Practice Workshop on "Open ICT Standards for Greater Citizen Access: Best Practices in Government Policy and Procurement Practices" on 13 November from 16:30 to 18:00.
All these events take place in the Windsor Barra Hotel.

FSFE will have a booth at the Come2Linux, which takes place from 10 to 11 November in Essen, Germany. Michael Kesper from the German team and Dr Michael Stehmann from FTFs legal network will be available to answer questions. Also, T-shirts and other merchandise will be sold at the event as usual.

On the 3rd of November, Shane Coughlan from FSFE will speak at elce2007 about the business advantages inherent in Free Software and describe the licences that facilitate the freedoms it delivers. He will discuss the processes that help companies ensure they maximise benefit and minimise liability in Free Software deployment. He will also outline how Free Software and Open Standards work together to ensure a competitive marketplace.

On the 2nd of November, the FSFE and M6-IT are organising Free Software as a Social Innovation in London. This day long event will inform participants about Free Software and demonstrate its use in civil society organisations.

On the 18. October from 14:00 to 15:30 Matthias Kirschner, FSFE's German deputy coordinator, will take part in a panel discussion at the Sustainable-IT conference. The topic of the discussion is "IT sustainability -- international. How can software contribute to resource protection and a fair distribution of knowledge". It takes place at the Kalkscheune, Johannisstraße 2 in Berlin. Registration on their website is required. Admission fee is 25 EUR, reduced 15 EUR.

On the 12th and 13th of October, the University of Lisbon will host the I Forum de Software Livre, where both academia and businesses will share their experiences with Free Software as a strong and credible technological alternative suitable for small, medium and big businesses. Georg Greve will be present, promoting the merits of Free Software, and its adequacy to modern technological needs.

On Wednesday 26 September 2007 at 19:30, Dr. Michael Stehmann gives a speech with the following topics:

• Why licenses?
• Criteria for Free Software licenses
• Which licenses do exist?

The event takes place in the Restaurant "Mi Dang", Fürstenwall 120, 40217 Düsseldorf and was organised by the local Fellowship group. After the speech, there will be an open discussion. Admission is free, although donations are of course welcome.

On the 25th of September, Jonas Öberg, vice president of the FSFE, will talk about and present the GNU General Public License version 3 at a meeting of the Swedish Computer Association in Malmö, Sweden.

Georg Greve, president of the FSFE, will be a keynote speaker at OpenExpo, a Free Software Exposition aimed at a corporate and technical audience. He will talk about the significance and strategic importance of Free Software and Open Standards in the business world.

Between the 18th and 19th of September, the FSFE in collaboration with the Internet Academy in Sweden will give a course on the strategic implementation of Free Software in Stockholm, Sweden. The course will be given in Swedish.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a two day course entitled 'Free Software licenses and other questions' at the Digicomp Academy Zurich, Switzerland. The course is intended for project managers, developers and technicians who wish to become more knowledgeable regarding code distribution options.

Between the 30th of August and 1st of September, the Fondation Sciences Citoyennes organises the 3rd Living Knowledge Conference where FSFE Swedish Team member Mathias Klang will participate to give a presentation on the SELF project.

The Department of Computer Science of the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg is organising a conference all about Free Software in 2007 again with help of Fachschaft of Computer Science, LUUSA and FrOSCon e.V.

The fifteenth Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place on 17 August in Vienna and in Dornbirn. The Conference is designed for Civil servants, Senior Civil Servants (Directors & Unit Heads), lawyers and politicians in EU Member States and countries surrounding the EU who are involved in the procurement of IT solutions and in strategic decisions about innovation and eGovernment, and who provide legal advice on copyright and patents.

Presso la cattedra di Comunicazione mediata dal computer della facoltà di Scienze della Comunicazione alla Sapienza di Roma, professore Arturo Di Corinto, il giorno 7 giugno alle ore 9:30, Richard Stallman, il fondatore del movimento del Free Software e Bruce Perens, il padre dell’Open Source, terranno una lezione magistrale sull’etica e la pratica del software libero.
Organizzato in collaborazione con la Free Software Foundation Europe, l’Associazione per il Software Libero, il Linux User Group della Sapienza, Wikimedia Italia, l'evento sarà l’occasione per discutere con studenti, esperti e appassionati, per ascoltare dalla voce dei suoi protagonisti la storia e l’evoluzione del free, open source software.
L’evento, gratuito e aperto al pubblico, avrà luogo giovedì 7 giugno dalle 9:30 alle 13:30 presso l’Aula Magna della Caserma Sani in via Via Principe Amedeo, 184. Il luogo è raggiungibile a piedi dalla Stazione Termini oppure dalla fermata della Metropolitana di Piazza Vittorio Emanuele.

On Thursday June 7, 2007 at 3:30 pm in the V G Kulkarni Auditorium at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Mumbai, India, Georg Greve gives a talk about Free Software and science.
Free Software and science share common roots, and benefit society in several similar ways. In his talk, Mr Greve will explain the concept of Free Software and how it relates to maintaining our scientific basis as a society. As a practical example of this collaboration, the talk will give a brief introduction of the Science, Education and Learning in Freedom project, in which the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research plays a crucial role. The talk will close with an overview of how all of this relates to the global political trends of knowledge monopolisation, and the Access to Knowledge initiative.

FSFE will be present with a booth at LinuxTag 2007, which takes place at Berlin's Expo Center under the Funkturm. FSFE will inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software, like the Freedom Task Force, software patents, the SELF project, GPLv3, or the Fellowship of FSFE. Also it is planned to sell T-Shirts from FSFE and books about Free Software. Please take the opportunity to get informed about Free Software and FSFE.

The biggest event in this year's Austrian Linuxwochen series takes place from 31 May to 2 June 2007 in the Urania building in Vienna. The FSFE is there during the whole event with a booth to inform people about its work and about Free Software in general.
On 31 May at 17:00 Reinhard Müller holds a speech titled "Free Software for a free society".

The eLiberatica Conference is the most important romanian event concerning Free Software. It will be held on the 18th and the 19th of May, in Braşov, Romania, and is organized by ROSI, a romanian assocition advocating Free Software, and by Agora Media, a romanian media group. eLiberatica's purpose is to unify pomotion of Free Software throughout Romania, and encouraging its adoption by business through grassroots organization. The conference therefore addresses programmers, university students, and business people. Georg Greve will deliver a talk on Open Standards and Free Competition.

On Saturday 19 May 2007 at 9:30, Reinhard Müller holds the keynote for the Linuxwochen event at the University of Applied Sciences "Johanneum" in Graz.
At 11:00 he gives another speech titled "Free Software for a free society" there.
As a part of the same event, the twelfth Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place at 15:00. As usual, all people interested in FSFE or Free Software are invited to this meeting.

On thursday the 17th of may, the FSFE and Digifri, Sweden, invites you to attend a lecture by Richard Stallman on Copyright vs Community in the Age of Computer Networks. The lecture will take place at Linköping University, room C4 at 17.00.

On Wednesday the 16th of may, the FSFE and Göteborg University, Sweden, invites you to attend a lecture by Richard Stallman on Free Software and Beyond: Human Rights in the Use of Software and Other Published Works. Stallman will speak about the history and philosophy of the Free Software Movement, address how the ideas of Free Software do or don't extend to other kinds of published works and explain what the Pirate Party must change in its program to avoid unintended negative consequences in the software field.

La FSFE parteciperà alla prima conferenza italiana sul Software Libero. E' il primo di una serie di incontri annuali per favorire la diffusione del Software Libero in Italia incrementando la consapevolezza sia sui suoi risvolti economici e tecnici, che su quelli etici, sociali e filosofici. Vuole inoltre essere un punto di incontro di tutti i soggetti che sono coinvolti nella diffusione e nell'uso del Software Libero in Italia, ovvero imprese, enti pubblici, universita', sviluppatori, ricercatori ed appassionati, per conoscersi e avviare collaborazioni e progetti. Obiettivo degli organizzatori e' proporre la prima Conferenza Scientifica sul Software Libero Italiano.
La conferenza e' organizzata dal Centro di Ricerca su Tecnologia ed Innovazione Hacklab Cosenza e dalla Free Software Foundation Europe, con la collaborazione dell'Universita' della Calabria.

Georg Greve and Ciaran O'Riordan will speak at the Libremeeting 2007 --the 1st International Free Knowledge Meeting of Madrid--. Georg will present the FSFE while Ciaran's speech will be about the GPLv3. The event is organized by our associated organization the Free Knowledge Foundation.

On Monday 7 May 2007 at 19:30, Shane M. Coughlan gives an introduction to Free Software Licensing and the Freedom Task Force in the Restaurant "Philipp" in Düsseldorf, Fürstenwall 120. The event was organised by the local Fellowship group. Admission is free.

On April 27th-29th 2007, the weekend of World "Intellectual Property Day", the Yale Information Society Project will hold its Second Annual Access to Knowledge (A2K) Conference. This A2K conference program focuses on mobilizing Industry, Civil Society, Governments and Technologists, around human rights, human development and the public interest in the domain of innovation and information policy, as well as understanding the theoretical underpinnings of access to knowledge issues. Georg Greve will be present, advocating Free Software, and will act as a moderator in the Mobilizing Technologists Panel.

Shane Coughlan, FSFE Freedom Task Force coordinator, will deliver a speech entitled 'Introduction to Free Software' at ETH Zurich during the "Linux-Day V" event for students. Shane will be speaking at 13:15 on the 27th of April at ETH Zentrum HG E33.1.

On April 4th, 18:00 pm, Georg Greve and Jonas Oberg will give three public talks. Georg will present the FSFE, and Free Software issues in e-government, and Jonas will talk about the SELF project. This event will take place in Belgrade, it will also be an opportunity for the Free Software community in Serbia to meet, with people also coming from Macedonia and Croatia.

On Sunday April 1st, at 17h00, in Brussels, Richard Stallman will present the current status of the global project to update Free Software's keystone licence: the GNU GPL. This talk will be Stallman's first since the release of discussion draft 3 - the draft crafted to block patent deals such as that of Novell+Microsoft. This draft has also been simplified, and the DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) and tivoisation clauses have also been altered significantly.

The Fellowship group in Düsseldorf has invited GnuPG's principal author Werner Koch to speak about the Fellowship crypto card and its practical use. The event starts on 28 March 2007 at 19:00 in the "Gaststätte Phillip" in Düsseldorf. Admittance is free, although donations for the FSFE are of course welcome.

The first Franconian Fellowship meeting takes place on 24 March 2007 in Forchheim. We meet at 16:00 in the restaurant "Roter Ochs". Jutta Horstmann speaks about Content Management Systems, Rainer Kersten from FSFE's office will give some info about FSFE, and the following discussion will certainly be interesting :-).

This will be the second meeting of fellows in the region of Bonn and Cologne. It will take place on 2007-03-20 at 19 o'clock (open end) in the restaurant/bar Aktuell Nachrichtentreff.

La FSFE sarà presente al FOSDEM 2007, che si svolgerà il 24 e 25 febbraio a Bruxelles. Il FOSDEM è una conferenza europea di sviluppatori di software libero organizzata da volontari.

During the second leg of the SELF project, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR will organise the second BOARD meeting in Mumbai, India. The issues that will be discussed are related to SELF Support Programme (SSP), Finances and budget, Expert groups, and other strategic plans. The week long meeting comprises of two days workshop sessions, three days board meeting, one day SELF conference and one day for a social event. George Greve and Jonas Oberg, president and vice president of the FSFE, will be part of the Legal Experts Group.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force (FTF) coordinator, will attend the LIFT conference in Geneva, Switzerland. LIFT is a conference to explore the challenges and opportunities of technology in society. Shane will participate in the 'Legal issues and perspectives' workshop hosted by the Swiss lawfirm BCCC.

The 5th international conference on GPLv3 will be a 2-day event held in Japan on November 21st and 22nd. Organised by Free Software Initiative Japan, this event will host experts and interested parties who will make presentations and participate in discussions about Free Software's cornerstone licence. FSFE will be represented by Georg Greve (President) and Ciarán O'Riordan. The joint goals are to maximise awareness of the GPLv3 process and to give attendees the information necessary to make informed comments on the licence drafts and to help them to explain the proposed changes to others.

The sixth Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place on 17 November in Vienna. We meet around 18:00 in the Lounge at the Metalab, Rathausstraße 6, first district. The "official" agenda will start at 19:00.

From 30 October to 2 November the UN is holding its first Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Athens, Greece. FSFE president Georg Greve is participating to discuss issues of software sovereignty and to participate in the high level panel on Access.

FSFE will be at the "LinuxWorld Expo" in London, on the 25th/26th of October. FSFE will have a booth at the event. Please come and visit us to learn more about Free Software, the work of the FSFE and the Fellowship.

This year's annual KDE conference will be held in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. FSFE will be represented by Ciaran O'Riordan who will deliver a keynote on Software Patents at 13:45 on Sunday the 24th, and will lead a Birds of a Feather session on GPLv3 from 19:00 to 20:00 on Tuesday th 26th. aKademy is generally technical in nature.

Al "Tiroler Linuxtag", l'ultimo degli eventi della serie austriaca "Linuxwochen", sia Reinhard Müller sia Patrick Ohnewein terranno delle relazioni. Reinhard Müller darà una descrizione generale sul Software Libero e sulla Fellowship, e Patrick Ohnewein parlerà del CoCOS, un centro di competenza sul Software Libero, e riguardo al Software Libero in Sud Tirolo.
L'evento avrà luogo il 9 settembre 2006 dalle 10:00 alle 17:00 presso l'UMIT, una università privata in Hall in Tirol. L'entrata è libera.

Ciaran O'Riordan presenterà, e risponderà a domande su, i cambiamenti principali che sono stati fatti per la terza versione della GNU GPL. Scopo della serata è di fornire ai membri della Free Software community informazioni per aiutarli a fare critiche costruttive e a suggerire miglioramenti durante il tempo rimanente del processo di di consultazione pubblica.

Durante una delle riunioni periodiche del Dataföreningen Region West, Jonas Öberg, vice presidente della FSFE, presenterà la GPL versione 3, le modifiche proposte e le loro motivazioni.

La quarta conferenza internazionale per la stesura della terza versione della GNU GPL avrà luogo il 23 e 24 agosto, in Bangalora, India. FSFE partecierà a questo evento tramite la presenza di Ciaran O'Riordan, curatore del progetto GPLv3 di FSFE. La conferenza pubblica di avvio del progetto "Science Education and Learning in Freedom" (SELF) avrà luogo all'Aia, nei Paesi Bassi il 10 luglio. Georg Greve, presidente della FSFE e Jonas Oberg, vice presidente, parteciperanno alla conferenza; Greve terrà l'intervento di apertura sul tema "Implicazioni strategiche del Software Libero per i Paesi Bassi e per l'Europa", mentre Oberg condurrà la tavola rotonda intitolata "La rivoluzione Open Content".

Come parte del continuo lavoro della FSFE per riformare il sistema globale di copyright, brevetti e trademark, Georg Greve, presidente della FSFE, partecipaerà alla seconda sessione della "World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Provisional Committee on Proposals Related to a WIPO Development Agenda (PCDA)", così come aveva già partecipato alla prima sessione, febbraio 2006. L'incontro avrà luogo presso le Nazioni Unite a Ginevra.

Ciaran O'Riordan will give an overview of the current proposal for how v3 of the GNU GPL will differ from v2. Topics will include a description of the year-long public consultation process and how GPLv3 will strive to preserve freedom in spite of DRM, software patents, and a complicated legal World.

In questa conferenza internazionale di due giorni, gli esperti della GPLv3 e di licenze per Software Libero presenteranno i cambiamenti proposti alla licenza principale del Software Libero, la GNU General Public License. Gli esperti risponderanno anche alle domande del pubblico e verranno organizzate discussioni su argomenti d'attualità. Free Software meets digital lifestyle: on Friday 16 June, Georg Greve will speak at the Dorkbot Swiss meeting at the Kunstraum Walcheturm in Zurich, Switzerland at 20:00. The event will focus mainly on social issues of digital freedom.

Austria's largest Free Software event takes place from Wednesday, 31 May 2006, 10:00, to Friday, 2 June 2006, 22:00, in the Urania building, Uraniastraße 1, First District, Vienna. Admission is free.

Alla quinta "System Administration and Network Engineering Conference" di Delft, Georg Greve, presidente della FSFE, introdurrà la versione 3 della GPL, chiarendo le scelte alla base delle sue modifiche e le modalità per partecipare al processo che renderà la GPLv3 la migliore versione possibile della GPL.

Come ogni anno, la FSFE sarà presente al GNU/LinuxTag, uno dei principali appuntamenti annuali riguardanti il software libero fin dal 1996, con molti volontari e presentazioni dedicate al software libero e all'attività della FSFE. Sarà un'occasione per incontrare molti attivisti della FSFE e assistere ai loro interventi su WIPO, GPLv3, DRM e altri argomenti.

Federico Heinz will give two talks in Dublin, Ireland. One on "Free Software and Education", and one on "The Imperative for Free Software in Public Administration". This event is being organised by Ciaran O'Riordan with Irish Free Software Organisation. O'Riordan will also make a presentation about GPLv3: the process and the largest changes.

Il Grand Jury della Corte Europea di giustizia è pronto per l'attesa udienza della causa antitrust contro Microsoft, che avrà luogo nella Grande Salle della Corte Europea, dal 24 al 28 aprile. Georg Greve, presidente della FSFE, Carlo Piana, legale della FSFE nella causa e Andrew Tridgell del Samba Team saranno presenti all'evento, per difendere la Corte dai tentativi di Microsoft di eludere ancora le sanzioni ricevute.

Alla prima conferenza internazionale su Access to Knowledge, che si terrà alla Yale Law School, Karsten Gerloff modererà una tavola rotonda dal titolo "Licensing Frameworks for Access to Knowledge". Lo scopo della conferenza è quello di sviluppare un quadro per analizzare i possibili effetti distorsivi delle politiche pubbliche basate esclusivamente sul diritto d'autore e sui brevetti. I partecipanti discuteranno sulle modalità alternative per sostenere l'accesso alla conoscenza in un ambiente digitale e connesso.

Quest'anno la 7^a edizione del Free Software Forum avrà luogo a Porto Alegre, Brasile, ospitando anche la seconda conferenza internazionale su GPLv3. La FSFE sarà rappresentata dal proprio presidente, Georg Greve, e dal proprio rappresentante a Bruxelles, Ciaran O'Riordan. Entrambi terranno degli interventi alla conferenza su GPLv3 e parteciperanno alle attività del FISL: Greve terrà uno degli interventi di apertura, dal titolo "Free Software - Social Movement or Technological Revolution?", e Ciaran O'Riordan parlerà delle iniziative per fermare i brevetti software. Entrambi lavoreranno insieme alla FSF Latin America, organizzazione sorella della FSFE, e incontreranno la comunità locale del software libero per rafforzare la rete internazionale del software libero.

Ciaran O'Riordan e Gareth Bowker parleranno a Londra a proposito delle attività della FSFE per proteggere la libertà del software da possibili interventi legislativi dannosi, come quelli legati alla brevettabilità del software o alle distorsioni del diritto d'autore. O'Riordan presenterà anche la GPLv3 e il suo processo consultivo pubblico che durerà un anno. Entrambi risponderanno alle domande del pubblico.

Il 18 Marzo Richard Stallman presenterà a Torino il futuro del Software Libero, introducendo al pubblico italiano il processo di aggiornamento della GNU General Public License ("la GPL") che oggi protegge le libertà di 100 milioni di utenti di software nel mondo ed è la licenza per il Software Libero più usata al mondo.

La terza riunione della Fellowship in Austria avrà luogo il 13 gennaio alle 18:00 a Vienna, presso il Cafe Panoptikum, Schultergasse 4.
Questa volta, Karin Kosina e Reinhard Müller presenteranno i vari progetti della FSFE e continuerà la discussione sul software libero nelle scuole austriache.
L'invito è aperto a chiunque sia interessato alla FSFE o al software libero.

Come ogni anno, la Free Software Foundation Europe parteciperà al FOSDEM di Bruxelles, una conferenza per gli sviluppatori europei di software libero. Come ogni anno, il team della FSFE incontrerà molte persone della comunità del software libero, informerà sulle proprie attività e quest'anno presenterà anche una piccola sopresa.

Dopo gli "Inter-Sessional Inter-Governmental Meetings" (IIM) sull'istituzione di una agenda per lo sviluppo presso la "World Intellectual Property Organization" (WIPO) delle Nazioni Unite, Georg C. F. Greve e Karsten Gerloff della FSFE parteciperanno anche al "Provisional Committee on Proposals Related to a WIPO Development Agenda" (PCDA).

La FSF Europe, rappresentata da Georg C. F. Greve, Ciaran O'Riordan e Stefano Maffulli, parteciperà alla presentazione della prima bozza per la versione 3 della GNU General Public License durante la Prima conferenza internazionale su GPLv3, che si terrà all'MIT di Cambridge, USA.

La seconda riunione della Fellowship in Austria avrà luogo il 13 gennaio alle 18:00 a Vienna, presso l'Otto-Wagner Pavillion vicino a Karlsplatz. Come l'ultima volta, Karin Kosina e Reinhard Müller parleranno del lavoro della FSFE e si svolgeranno interessanti discussioni, in particolare sull'argomento "Software libero nell'educazione". At the Chaos Computer Club's 22nd Chaos Communication Congress, Karsten Gerloff will give a talk on Free Software, Access to Knowledge and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). The talk is scheduled for Dec. 30th, 14:00.

Georg C. F. Greve, President of FSFE, will participate in panels about e-government and digital society at LACFREE II, a UNESCO sponsored conference on Free Software development and usage being held in the Brazilian cities Recife and Olinda.

Having been invited to the 5th Regional Free Software Days, Georg Greve will participate in this important Latin American event, which spans technical, social and cultural topics. He will also be a guest to the public part of the first general assembly of the Free Software Foundation Latin America, which is going to be held at this event.

In an event organised by FSFE's associate organisation Irish Free Software Organisation, FSFE's Brussels Representative, Ciaran O'Riordan, will speak about his work to prevent software patents, and what could be the road ahead. He, and the other speakers, will also discuss similar legislation, which is getting much less attention, such as IPRED2.

The second phase of the United Nations (UN) World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) will be held between 14th and 18th November in Tunis. Georg C. F. Greve, President of FSFE, will be working to promote digital freedom and equality in discussions and side-events with other participants from Governments, Civil Society, the Private Sector and the United Nations.

From 15. to 17. November, FSFE will be at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo 2005. FSFE will be present with a booth. Please take the opportunity to get informed about Free Software, the work of the FSFE and the Fellowship. There will also be the chance to get informed about the OpenPGP smartcard.

The World Summit on the Information Society and the role of Local Authorities is held in Bilbao, Spain between the 9th and 11th of november. Jonas Öberg will participate in the workshop on Free Software on the 10th of november at 16.45 to discuss the importance of Free Software in government administration.

Georg C. F. Greve, President of FSF Europe, will be speaking at Tweakfest 2005 - Visions of Digital Life Style on Nov 10th 2005 in Zürich, a congress organised by the local Academy of Design and Art.
The topic of his talk will be "Who owns the Information Society? - Open source is not enough!"

On 4 November, starting at 18:00, a Fellowship meeting will take place in the "Käuzchen" in Vienna, Gardegasse 8. Karin Kosina and Reinhard Müller will inform about the work of the FSFE and discuss with interested people. The invitation is adressed at everybody who is interested in the FSFE, wants to get active himself or just likes Free Software and wants to get in contact with other enthusiasts, not only at those who are part of the Fellowship. The Swedish Internet infrastructure foundation is organising the conference Internetdagarna 2005 at the Clarion Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden, between the 24th and 25th of october. Several issues will be discussed during the conference, including a discussion on Sweden's IT policy and the dangers of a digital divide. FSF Europe's Jonas Öberg will participate throughout the conference

At the Third Conference on Free Software in the Amazonas, Georg Greve will meet with local and international Free Software activists to work on questions related to Free Software and Development.

Stefano Maffulli, Italian Chancellor, will be speaking at the biggest professional conference of the Hungarian Internet users. The event will see participants from the communication and financial experts, from governmental institutions, and representatives of Telkom, ISP and other service institutions. The subject of this year's conference is: what possibilities are there on the Internet for the media and communication industry, and what sort of business activities can be carried out with the help of the Internet, with special attention to those economic activities.

On the 3rd of October, Jonas Öberg will participate in a workshop on the World Summit of the Information Society, focused on Internet Governance and Human Rights. The workshop is organised by the Collegium for Development Studies at Uppsala University, Sweden, and will be held at the Hammarskog Conference Centre, Sweden.

FSFE will take part in this final preparatory meeting for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). We will contribute the perspective of Free Software to the various meetings and negotiations.

FSFE's president Georg Greve has been invited to speak at the Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Development and Use of Free Software. He will talk about Free Software as a social movement and its interaction in the political field, in particular on United Nations level, such as WIPO. Georg Greve is also looking forward to a session on the Free Software Foundations with participants from FSF Latin America, FSF India and FSF Europe. During this event he will share with the audience some of the work that FSFE has done in the past years.

Stefano Maffulli, Italian Chancellor, will be speaking at the OpenOffice.org Conference 2005 in Koper - Capodistria (Slovenia). Participants are invited to register (free of charge).

London, August 13th is the Annual General Meeting of UK-based Association For Free Software (AFFS). This year Ciaran O'Riordan will be giving a talk about what has been achieved and what we must do to prepare for the future battles over software patentability.

At the What the Hack! outdoor conference, Georg Greve will give a talk on FSFE's work and the Fellowship project. Karsten Gerloff will hold a lecture on WIPO and the Development Agenda.

Following up on FSFE's activities during the first two part of WIPO's Meetings on a Development Agenda, Georg Greve and Karsten Gerloff will work to make sure the needs of Free Software are taken into account in any WIPO agreements.

The "Jornades des Programari Lliure" is a Free Software conference in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Catalonia. Karin Kosina will give an introduction to 3D programming with Coin3D on 7 July at 15:30 and hold a speech about making money with Free Software on 8 July at 11:30.

At the GNU/Linuxtag 2005, world's biggest GNU/Linux fair, FSFE will present itself with two booths, several talks and a large number of people. Per la seconda parte dell'Incontro Intersessione Intergovernativo dell'Organizzazione Mondiale per la Proprietà Intellettuale (WIPO) FSFE manderà una delegazione a Ginevra. In coordinamento con altri attori della società civile, FSFE lavorerà per indirizzare il lavoro della WIPO verso una ricchezza intellettuale crescente e per affrontare le necessità e le richieste del Software Libero.

Il giorno 8 giugno 2005 la FSFE sarà presente alla tavola rotonda "Arte, cultura conoscenza, democrazia". Il presidente della sezione italiana Stefano Maffulli sarà presente insieme ad altri partecipanti, come il Ministro della Cultura brasiliano Gilberto Gil, il responsabile italiano di Creative Commons Juan Carlos De Martin e molti altri.

Alla "WSIS Contributory Conference" di Vienna, Georg Greve terrà un intervento su "Software libero come ricchezza intellettuale per la società dell'informazione". La conferenza mira a produrre una "Dichiarazione di Vienna sulla creatività" che richiamerà l'attenzione sul fatto che la creatività è una risorsa naturale della mente umana.

Dalle 15:30, dopo una manifestazione in strada contro i brevetti sul software, FSFE organizzerà un Freedom Party per celebrare la libertà digitale come parte della sua campagna di Fellowship. Il luogo di ritrovo non è stato ancora stabilito, ma sarà vicino a piazza de Meeus, dove termina il corteo. Piazza de Meeus è una piazza erbosa che sta su entrambi i lati di Rue de Luxembourg, a metà strada tra il Parlamento Europeo e la stazione della metropolitana Trone.

Karin Kosina aprirà l'evento con un discorso introduttivo il ventiquattro maggio e parlerà dell'importanza del termine "Free Software" il ventisei. Georg Greve terrà un discorso sul Software Libero nel B2B e nelle pubbliche amministrazioni il venticinque maggio. Entrambi prenderanno anche parte ad un dibattito.

Georg Greve parteciperà ad una Conferenza sull'Accesso alla Conoscenza (A2K) organizzata dal gruppo Trans Atlantic Consumer Dialogue. All'evento, a Londra, rappresentanti dei consumatori, bibliotecari, esperti governativi ed organizzazioni internazionali e di società civile lavoreranno sulle proposte per un Trattato di Accesso alla Conoscenza.

Invitato dalla Banca Mondiale, Georg Greve parlerà a professionisti IT che partecipano a un seminario sul procurement dei servizi informativi, segnalando i vantaggi specifici del software libero per i progetti di sviluppo.

Dal 12 al 15 aprile, la FSFE parteciperà alla riunione intergovernativa inter-sessione dell'Organizzazione Mondiale della Proprietà Intellettuale (WIPO) a Ginevra. Visto che sono stati invitati a partecipare solo gli osservatori permanenti, molte organizzazioni della società civile non saranno ammesse a questa riunione di importanza critica per gli sviluppi futuri del WIPO. La delegazione della FSFE è per ora composta da Georg Greve, Karsten Gerloff e Volker Grassmuck; insieme ad altri esponenti della società civile, essa cercherà di riorientare l'azione del WIPO verso l'aumento della ricchezza intellettuale e la giusta considerazione dei temi legati al software libero.

I giorni 4 e 5 di marzo 2005 si terrà all'Istanbul Bilgi University una conferenza sul Software Libero. L'attenzione sarà sulle opportunità che il Software Libero offre all'economia turca. Il 4 di marzo Georg Greve terrà un discorso su aspetti commerciali, pratici e sociologici del Software Libero e del Progetto GNU.

Il LinuxForum 2005 si terrà a Copenhagen nel weekend tra il 4 e il 5 marzo. La FSF Europe sarà rappresentata da Henrik Sandklef, insieme all'organizzazione danese IT-Politisk Forening, che lavora per la libertà di informazione in Danimarca.

Tra il 2 e il 4 marzo, Karin Kosina e Jonas Öberg terranno alcuni interventi al "Free and Open Source Software Workshop" di Damasco. Karin parlerà degli aspetti economici del software libero e Jonas parlerà dell'educazione al software libero a livello universitario.

Tra il 26 e il 27 febbraio a Bruxelles si terrà l'edizione di quest'anno del FOSDEM. La FSF Europe sarà presente con vari membri, volontari, magliette e altro merchandising.

La FSFE si sta preparando a partecipare alla riunione del Comitato Preparatorio (2. PrepCom) della seconda fase del "World Summit on the Information Society" (WSIS). Georg Greve sarà a Ginevra dal 17 al 25 Febbraio 2005.

Venerdì 18 febbraio, Georg Greve terrà un intervento al LOTS, all'Università di Berna, Svizzera. Durante la sua lezione parlerà delle origini e dei vantaggi del software libero. L'entrata è libera per chi si sarà registrato entro il 31 gennaio, altrimenti costa 10F.

FSFE parteciperà al World Social Forum che si terrà a Porto Alegre, in Brasile dal ventisei al trentun gennaio 2005. Il 26 gennaio Georg Greve parteciperà ad un evento dal titolo "Digital Revolution: Knowledge Sharing x Impresionment on Information Society". L'evento avrà luogo nella stanza A105 dalle 15:30 alle 18:30.

Venerdì 14 gennaio 2005 alle 19:30, Georg Greve terrà un intervento sulle sfide del software libero nell'era digitale e sul lavoro della Free Software Foundation Europe. La conferenza, aperta al pubblico, si terrà nel Theatre Q, Arts Block del UCD campus.

Dal 26 al 28 novembre 2004 si terrà a Bolzano la SFScon. Due membri della Free Software Foundation Europe terranno tre interventi: Werner Koch parlerà a proposito di "Privacy e tecniche di crittografia", Alessandro Rubini presenterà il "Software Libero nella scuola" e darà un'"Introduzione alla programmazione del kernel".

Questo congresso sul Software Libero, organizzato interamente dalla comunità del Software Libero brasiliana, si terrà nel "Anhembi Convention Center", San Paolo in Brasile. Georg Greve aprirà il congresso con un intervento nella giornata di giovedì.

Sabato 9 Ottobre 2004 alle 16:00, Georg Greve parteciperà a una tavola rotonda sul Software Libero al aLANtejo. L'evento è pubblico, ma è richiesta la registrazione sul sito (solo in portoghese).

Martedì 5 ottobre 2004 alle ore 14:00 George Greve parlerà delle prospettive del Software Libero. La conferenza sarà tenuta in lingua Tedesca.

Venerdì 1 Ottobre 2004, Georg Greve parteciperà a un evento dal titolo "Autonomia e libertà del sapere nella società dell'informazione. Implicazioni politiche, economiche e culturali". La conferenza inizierà alle 9:00 e si concluderà in serata. L'evento è rivolto a responsabili dell'amministrazione, capi ufficio e capi ripartizione nella Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano, ma anche al mondo del lavoro, alle associazioni che si occupano della tematica e ai cittadini interessati. L'evento è pubblico e a partecipazione gratuita, ma è richiesta la registrazione entro il 30 Settembre sul sito web.

Il 23 Settembre Georg Greve parteciperà all'Expert Meeting on Free Software. Parlerà del Software Libero e del suo ruolo nel progresso della società dell'informazione, in particolare nei paesi in via di sviluppo.

Lunedì 6 Settembre 2004, Georg Greve parteciperà a un dibattito attorno ai "digital commons" insieme a Lawrence Lessig, fondatore del pluripremiato progetto "Creative Commons". L'argomento della discussione sarà il seguente: "A chi appartiene la conoscenza e quanto sono liberi il software, i contenuti e le infrastrutture?

Lunedì, 22 luglio alle ore 10:00 Georg Greve terrà una conferenza sulla Free Software Foundation Europe. Parteciperà anche ad una tavola rotonda discutendo sul tema "I governi debbono supportare il Software Libero?" mercoledì 21 luglio dalle 12:30 alle 13:30 e dalle 13:30 alle 14:30 e sul tema "I brevetti software in Europa" giovedì 22 luglio negli stessi orari. Le conferenze saranno tenute in lingua Inglese.

GNU/LinuxTag è uno dei principali eventi riguardanti il Software Libero. Come ogni anno, ci sarà una postazione della FSF Europe: vari membri del nostro team parleranno delle nostre attività, venderemo gadget, magliette e spille per finanziare il nostro lavoro per il Software Libero. Bernhard Reiter e Georg Greve terranno interventi sul Software Libero e le sue licenze mercoledì alle 16.00, giovedì alle 14.00 e sabato alle 13.00.

All'interno di "Wizards of OS 2004" si terrà un workshop dal titolo "Where next for copyright in Europe?". La lista dei relatori include anche Georg Jakob, Membro della FSF Europe, che parlerà dei vincitori e vinti nella direttiva IPRED ("Intellectual Proprerty Rights Enforcement Directive").

Dal 20 maggio al 10 giugno 2004, Georg Greve ha girato per il Sud America, visitando le comunità del Software Libero in Argentina, Uruguay e Brasile per supportarle nella loro battaglia per la libertà e per condividere l'esperienza maturata con il lavoro della FSFE.

Henrik Sandklef terrà un intervento di 30 minuti sul Software Libero nell'interesse pubblico durante la conferenza EuroPython 2004. L'intervento avrà luogo nella Sala 1 alle 09:30 il 9 giugno.
