This time, the Graz Fellowship meeting will be in Realraum, located in the Jakoministraße 16, 8010 Graz. We'll be there from 19:00. As usual, this invitation is for everyone interested in the FSFE or Free Software. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

The Freedom Task Force, FSFE's legal and licensing department, will hold the third European Licensing and Legal Workshop on the 8th and 9th of April 2010 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This conference will provide legal experts a forum for discussions on supply chain management, compliance procedures, licence management and other legal issues related to the growth of the European Free Software market. There is limited space available at the event and attendance for non-network members is by invitation only.

A Fellowship meeting takes place on 18 March 2010 in Zurich. We meet at 18:30 in the "Pausenraum" of the "Spielwerkstatt Murmel", Kanonengasse 16, first floor (Zeughaus 5, old barracks in Zurich's city center, upstairs, down the corridor until the end). As usual, this invitation is for everyone interested in the FSFE or Free Software. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

The initial Hamburg Fellowship group meeting will take place at 19:30 at the Roxie, Rentzelstr. 6, 20146 Hamburg (near university). For details see Hamburg Fellowship group.

FSFE will have a booth at “LinuxTage”, one of the most important event about Free Software in Germany. The event will feature Martin Gollowitzer's OpenPGP smartcard workshop, and talks by Lena Simon on Women and Free Software, FSFE's German Coordinator Matthias Kirschner about 8 misunderstandings of Free Software and FSFE's President, Karsten Gerloff, will speak of Strategic Licensing. As in the last years a ticket for the conference will cost € 5. Reduced fee will be € 3. Tickets are valid on both days and can be bought directly at the entrance to the conference. A reservation is neither necessary nor possible. A ticket pre-sale is also not planned. The event takes place at Hörsaal- und Seminar-Gebäude der Technischen Universität Chemnitz, Reichenhainer Straße 90, 09126 Chemnitz.

Am 11.03.2010 um 19:30 trifft sich die Berliner Fellowshipgruppe im NewthinkingStore in der Tucholskystraße 48. Diesmal berichtet Karsten Gerloff, Präsident der FSFE, von seiner aktuellen Arbeit und beantwortet Fragen. Außerdem geht es um die Organisation des diesjährigen Document Freedom Days. Gäste bei dem Treffen sind wie immer herzlich willkommen.

At this year's CeBIT, FSFE is represented with two speakers, bringing new insights and taking a look ahead at what the future holds. On Wednesday at 13:00, FSFE's Germany coordinator Matthias Kirschner will present "8 Misunderstandings about Free Software - or are they lies?" On Thursday at 14:00, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will speak about "Opening up the market for Free Software: The battle for Interoperability". Both talks will take place in Hall 2. Registration for the event is possible.

Starting Wednesday, March 3, the Gothenburg FSFE team is reviving its Fellowship group with monthly meetings. The meetings will take place in Gnutiken at 18:00, and are open to everyone.

FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will speak about "Free Software: 10 Myths and the Truth" at the Eupen Center for Further Education (ZAWM). The talk will be in German. Afterwards, there will be lots of space for questions and discussion. The event is public, please register with schneider AT zawm.be.

During February Fellows can elect a second representative for FSFE's General Assembly. The Fellow who will be elected will serve a two year term.

The Berlin Fellowship group will meet at the NewthinkingStore at 7.30 pm in Tucholskystraße 48. Ali Gündüz will talk about complete free GNU/Linux Distributions. Another topic will be the FOSDEM 2010 and the DFD organisation. Guests are always welcome.

The Stuttgart Fellowship group will meet at Sophies Brauhaus on 11 February 2010 at 8.00 pm in Marienstraße 28. Thomas Jensch will talk about FSFEs Edu-Team. Another topic will be the re-start of a regular Fellowship meeting in Stuttgart.

FSFE will have a booth at FOSDEM, the ultimate European event organized by the community, for the community. The goal of this meeting is to provide Free Software developers a place to meet. No registration necessary. The event takes place at ULB Campus Solbosh, 50 Avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1050 Bruxelles.

Björn Schießle from the German team will give a speech at the Stuttgart Open Fair. His talk "Free Software - More than just a Development strategy" will be part of a workshop. The workshop will take place at Saturday, 30. January, 11-13 o'clock. Location: Forum3, Gymnasiumstr. 21, Stuttgart, Germany.

For Free Software, a lot depends on the way in which standardisation organisations deal with patented technologies. The WIPO Standing Committee on the Law of Patents is the highest level forum dealing with this question. For FSFE, Karsten Gerloff and Hugo Roy will participate in the meeting to advance the interests of Free Software.

The Berlin Fellowship group will meet at the NewthinkingStore on 14 January 2010 at 7.30 pm in Tucholskystraße 48. Alina Mierlus will talk about the upcoming Document Freedom Day and how Fellows can help out. Another topic will be the "Chemitzer Linux Tage" 2010. Guests are always welcome.

Since September KDE and FSFE have a joint office in Berlin. On December 12th we will celebrate that at Linienstr. 141, 10115 Berlin with a nice year-end party starting at 6pm. If you plan to come please sent a note before December 7th to Matthias so that there is enough to drink. You can help us by bringing some Christmas cookies, too.

With the growing interest attached to Free Software law issues, the second edition of the EOLE will take place in Brussels, in the prestigious confines of the European Parliament. Among other specialists, Adriaan de Groot, FTF Coordinator, will hold a conference entitled "Use the Source -- but what is it?" The event is accessible on registration only.

Zeit und Ort: Sonntag (6.12.), 16:00 Uhr im sublab (Karl-Heine-Straße 93, Westwerk) (http://sublab.org) Nach einer kurzen Vorstellung der Free Software Foundation Europe e.V. und einem Einblick in die aktuellen Themen wollen wir v.a. gemeinsam über Freie Software in Politik und Gesellschaft nachdenken und diskutieren. Wie kann Freie Software ins Gespräch gebracht werden? Welche konkreten Aktionen bieten sich an? In welcher Form können die Fellowship-Treffen stattfinden? Für Mate ist gesorgt - bis Sonntag!

FSFE President Karsten Gerloff will give a speech about “Welcome to the mainstream: Free Software in Europe” on December 2nd. The Free Software World Conference is jointly organised by the Spanish regional governments of Extremadura and Andalusia. The event is public.

The European Commission's project on interoperability for eGovernment services is organising and information day on the European Interoperability Strategy. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will participate in the discussions to make sure that the voice of Free Software and Open Standards is heard.

The monthly Fellowship meeting in Dusseldorf will take place on 25 November in the Restaurant “Friedrichskrone”, Talstraße/Kirchfeldstraße.

Topics: review of the past activities in 2009, and first plannings for 2010.

FSFE will be present with a booth at this years Brandenburger Linux Info Tag (BLIT). The Fellowship Group Berlin will man a booth to inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software. Also T-shirts and books about Free Software will be sold. The event starts at 10 am and takes place at the University Campus Griebnitzsee in Potsdam. Admission is free as in free beer.

Thanks the consistent support by FSFE and other organisations, the WIPO Development Agenda is finally on the way to implementation. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will participate in the meeting of the Committee on November 16th to 20th to make sure that Free Software and Open Standards take their place in this process. FSFE is a registered observer to WIPO. The event is not open to the public.

After some time of inactivity the edu-team went back to work. Therefore you are warmly invited to participate in the Fellowship jabber meeting to join the discussion on the future of the education activities.

FSFE is sponsoring the international meeting for GNU hackers and contributors, in which Karsten Gerloff, FSFE President, and Adriaan de Groot, FTF Coordinator, will participate. Le sommet FSCONS (Free Society Conference and Nordic Summit) de cette année se déroulera du 13 au 15 novembre et est co-organisé par des Fellows de la FSFE. Plus qu'une simple conférence, le FSCONS est un lieu de rencontre pour la génèse de changements sociaux, avec une attention portée sur le futur des Logiciels Libres et sur les manières de construire une Société Libre sur ces principes. OpenRheinRuhr 2009 in Bottrop is the largest exhibition concerning Free Software in Germany's Ruhr Area. Some of our German Fellows help to organize this convention or present Free Software projects they are working on. Hence FSFE will not miss the opportunity to contribute to this event with a booth. On November 7 and 8 we bring the idea of Free Software and its related topics to the public again. This time we intent to cross the border from IT into the Arts by providing a discussion lounge to broach the issues of "Software as a cultural technique" and "Coding as an art". In addition to the booth a social event for Fellows will be held on 2009-11-07. Further information about the booth and how to volunteer can be found in the wiki. Coordination is handled via the booth mailing list.

Karsten Gerloff and Adriaan de Groot will both speak on topics around Free Software: procurement, the FSFE itself, and licensing and governance for your projects.

Unlike proprietary software, the Free Software requirements are not about remuneration, but about maintaining the Freedom of users of the software to use, study, modify and distribute. That places some interesting requirements on manufacturers of devices that use this software.

On October 10 Torsten Grote is invited to an event from the working group on digital democracy from the Linkspartei. The working group deals with policy of the information age. At the beginning of the event Torsten Grote will give a speech about Free Software and afterwards participate in the discussion. The event takes place in the Kopenhagener Str. 9, 10437 Berlin from 10 am to 6 pm. Everybody interested is invited. The attendance is free of charge.

The Library of Alexandria, Egypt, is holding a three-day workshop to introduce judges, lawyers, and researchers from Egypt and the Arab world to new tools for the dissemination of knowledge. With representatives of Egypt's supreme court in attendance, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will be leading two sessions in the workshop, one on the history and basic concepts of Free Software, and the other on Free Software licensing.

The Vienna Fellowship Group invites you to celebrate the Software Freedom Day with us at Metalab. The four freedoms are celebrated with free music (as in freedom) and gratis snacks (which unfortunately are not free). We are looking forward to many visitors!

From September 18-19 Matthias Kirschner will be in Leipzig to participate at the Software Freedom Day. The celebration starts on Friday at 6 pm in the sublab, Karl-Heine-Straße 93 04229 Leipzig. There will be cake and everything else you need to celebrate Free Software. On Saturday 2 pm Matthias will give a talk about Free Software and the Software Freedom Day at the street festival. This speech will also take place in the Karl-Heine-Straße 93. Afterwards there will be a small FSFE booth, to answer questions around Free Software. Everybody is invited to join.

La braderie de Lille est un grand évènement qui se déroule en plein air pendant le premier week-end de septembre. chtinux, un groupe d'utilisateurs Linux de Lille a proposé à la Fellowship, comme l'an dernier, de participer à la Braderie. La FSFE, et plus particulièrement le stand de la Fellowship, va attirer nombre de regards curieux, puisque des millions de visiteurs de différents pays sont attendus dans les rues de Lille. Venez découvrir cette ville magnifique et manger quelques spécialités culinaires de la braderie comme des moules ! Et surtout, venez nombreux soutenir la Fellowship ! As part of the OpenRuhr initiative the "Uploadparty" takes place on September 5. The goal of the monthly uploadparties is to enlarge free culture in the Ruhr area. At this event everybody can bring his own paper pictures from the area, scan them, and make them available under the Creative Commons By license. Matthias Kirschner is participating at the event which takes place at 6pm in the Unperfekthaus, Friedrich-Ebert-Str. 18, 45127 Essen.

On 26th August the Zurich Fellows are proud to invite you to a Free Software BBQ. Fernanda Weiden, the new Vice-President, will give an overview of the changes discussed at this years General Assembly. As usual one can find the details (location, time) on the wiki page.

The Department of Computer Science of the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg is organising a conference all about Free Software in 2009 again with help of Fachschaft of Computer Science, LUUSA and FrOSCon e.V.

About a half year ago we had a joint event between KDE and the Fellowship of FSFE to celebrate the release of KDE 4.2. Because of the success of the event and the upcoming release of KDE 4.3 we decided to invite you again to a KDE release party and Fellowship meeting in Stuttgart. We will meet on Saturday, 1. Du 7 au 11 juillet se dérouleront à Nantes les 10èmes Rencontres Mondiales du Logiciel Libre. Rainer Kersten y organisera un stand de la FSFE.

Les RMLL sont l'évènement le plus important sur les Logiciels Libres en France. Cette année le Groupe d'Utilisateurs de GNU/Linux de Nantes attend quelque 5000 visiteurs à l'Université de Nantes.

La FSFE invite tout le monde à se joindre à la rencontre publique dans la soirée du 20 juin à Miraflores, Espagne.
Vous êtes également invités à participer à l'après-midi de l'évènement qui aura pour thème le futur des Logiciels Libres en Espagne. Ce sera une bonne occasion de rencontrer les membres de l'Assemblée Générale de la FSFE, et de discuter des bits et octets de liberté, tout en passant une bonne soirée entre amis et Fellows.

After a long time of planning the Styrian Fellowship group is proud to announce their first Fellowship meeting, which we hope to turn into a regular event. The meeting starts at 19:00 in the Realraum, Jakoministraße 16, Graz. It's a joint meeting with the Realraumgruppe. As usual, this invitation is for everyone interested in the FSFE or Free Software. Sabine Stengel from cartogis will give a presentation about the free OpenStreetMap project, outlining its progress, motivating people to join. After the presentation, the topics Linuxtag and our campaign regarding the “Bundestagswahl” will be discussed.

eLiberatica est l'un des plus grands évènements de son genre en Europe de l'Est, on y discute et démontre les avantages de l'adoption et de l'usage des solutions à base de Logiciels Libres. Georg Greve, le président de la FSFE, y donnera une conférence sur les défis des systèmes traditionnels de normalisation, du rôle des brevets et des mécanismes qui nous permettent de traiter les problèmes juridiques.

On Friday 8. May, the next Fellowship meeting in Zurich will take place. A lot is going on in Zuerich and Switzerland and we will discuss what is on the menu for this year. Further datails you can find in the wiki.

On Thursday 7. May, Bernhard Reiter will give a talk at the University of Stuttgart (campus Vaihingen) about "Professional Free Software in Economy and Politics" as part of the lecture "Free/Libre and Open Source Software Engineering". He will talk about Free Software in general, categories of Free Software licenses, software patents, Open Standards and more. The talk will start at 11:30 lecture room V55.01.

On Wednesday 6. May, the next Fellowship meeting in Stuttgart will take place. This time Bernhard Reiter, FSFE's coordinator Germany, will attend. We will meet at Unithekle Stuttgart/Vaihingen. The exact time will be published in the wiki. Here you can also find further details.

For the first time a Free Software event will take place in the region of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. Georg Greve, president of the FSFE, will take that opportunity to talk about Free Software business basics, its strategies and implications.
The TILT 2009 aims at presenting specific solutions made in Portugal as well as inspiring young people to get involved.

The event at the Kunstuniversität Linz (university of art) offers workshops, hacklabs, presentations and performances in the field of digital art and culture productions. The FSFE will be present with an info table stand, so feel free to come by for a cup of coffee and a nice chat about Free Software!

A whole day stuffed with presentations and talks at the FH Joanneum gives interested desktop-users, administrators, software developers and others, the possibility to enhance their know how about GNU/Linux and Free Software. The FSFE will be present with a stand, and Peter Bubestinger will give a speech titled "Safely into the Future with Free Software".

The second European Licensing and Legal Workshop organised by the Freedom Task Force of the FSFE will be held at the Hotel Okura on the 23rd and the 24th of April 2009 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This conference will provide a forum for discussions on supply chain management, compliance procedures, licence management, community interaction, and other legal issues related to the growth of the European Free Software market. For 3 days, Vienna's city hall will be hosting this year's Linux weeks with lots of interesting talks, stands and workshops. The FSFE will be present with a stand, and Peter Bubestinger will give a speech titled "Safely into the Future with Free Software". The speech is in German and targeted at everybody interested in Free Software.

On 15 April, Fellows and other interested parties are invited to attend an open planning meeting and get-together to discuss FSCONS 2009. The meeting starts at 19:00 in Delirium Café, Kronhusgatan 2B.

FSCONS, the annual conference on Free Software and Free Culture, will take place in Gothenburg 13-15 November, and is this year co-arranged by the Fellowship.

Starting at 8:45am, the Donau-Universität Krems invites teachers, pupils, parents and everyone interested to inform themselves about the benefits of using Free Software and GNU/Linux in school environments. From 25. to 28. March the "Frühjahrsfestival zum Datenschutz" will take place at the public library at Stuttgart, Germany. At Saturday 28. March 14:00 Björn Schießle will give a speech about "Free Software and Privacy". The speech ought to deliver a general introduction to Free Software and how it can help to improve privacy.

After the LinuxInfotag in Augsburg, Fellows from the region meet in the Restaurant Alt-Athen, where the LinuxInfotag's social event also takes place.

FSFE is present with an information and merchandise booth at the 8th Linux-Infotag Augsburg. The event takes place on 28 March 2009 from 9:30 to 17:30 in the IT faculty of the Augsburg University. Admission is free.

Reinhard Müller gives a speech called "5 most popular fallacys about Free Software (or are they lies?)". The speech is in German and targeted at everybody interested in Free Software.

Wednesday 25 March is the global day for document liberation. The day will be dedicated to promoting open document standards, with local events all across the globe. Document Freedom Day (DFD) is a grassroot movement promoting and raising awareness for Open Standards, and has over 220 teams across the world.

The European Legal Network facilitated by FSFE's Freedom Task Force will hold a special interest group meeting in Frankfurt to discuss linking. This meeting will be hosted at the WilmerHale offices and is invitation only.

This year's Linuxweeks in Austria start at the university in Klagenfurt. There will be plenty of interesting talks and several stands, including the FSFE. Peter Bubestinger will give a speech titled "Safely into the Future with Free Software". The speech is in German and targeted at everybody interested in Free Software.

As usual, we will attend at Chemnitz with a booth, which is manned by Isabel Drost, Uwe Zemisch and Rainer Kersten. Beside informations about our work we will offer devotionals.

On 12 March Torsten Werner and Michael Schinagl, who both participated in the standardisation process of the proprietary Microsoft OOXML standard, will talk about their experiences in this process. The Berlin Fellowship group invites all people interested to participate. We start at 19:30 in the Newthinkingstore, Tucholskystr. 48, Berlin. After that we will discuss future activities for this year.

The FSFE will be present with an information booth at the CeBIT in Hanover. The event takes place from 3 March 2009 to 8 March 2009. The booth will be located in hall 6/F50.

Shane Coughlan, FTF coordinator, will deliver a speech entitled "The strategic implementation of Free Software in business" at the CeBIT in Hanover (Hall 6, Open Source Forum). The speech is scheduled on 5 March 2009 at 16:15hrs and will be delivered in English.

La FSFE participera au FOSDEM, une conférence européeenne sur les Logiciels Libres organisée par des bénévoles qui se déroulera les 7 et 8 février prochains à Bruxelles (Belgique).

L'évènement fait la promotion de l'utilisation généralisée des Logiciels Libres, fournit aux développeurs de Logiciels Libres et aux communautés un endroit pour se retrouver et rencontrer d'autres projets, et promeut également le développement et les avantages liés aux solutions basées sur des Logiciels Libres.

La FSFE participera à l'évènement en tenat un stand où les visiteurs pourront s'informer sur ses activités récentes (et tout spécialement sur la FTF), les Logiciels Libres eux-mêmes, ainsi que sur la Fellowship de la FSFE. Comme toujours, les articles de promotion de la FSFE seront également en vente.

Un évènement joint entre la Fellowship de la FSFE et l'équipe KDE aura lieu le vendredi 30 Janvier à Stuttgart et combinera rencontre de la Fellowship et une KDE release party pour fêter la version 4.2. There will be an event to mark the release of KDE 4.2 in Zurich, Switzerland, on Wednesday 28th January. The event will be held at the Auditorium Maximum at the ETH Zurich, and starts at 17:30. The event is free to attend, and will feature an introduction by FSFE's President, Georg Greve, and a talk by Aaron Seigo of the KDE project. Food and drinks will be served afterwards. It is time for a new tradition! A Christmas get-together for Fellows and others in Gothenburg, with technical help for all those interested in Free Culture and Free Software. FFKP (Union for Free Culture and Software) and FSFE (Free Software Foundation Europe) invite you to a get-together with glögg (spiced wine), coffee, cookies and cakes. There will also be a presentation of the FFKP and some of the avtivities planned for 2009. Jeremiah Foster will be there as well offering help for GNU/Linux and other Free Software to anyone who needs it.

The local Fellowship group will meet on the 11th of december. The location is as always the NewThinkingStore at Tucholskystraße. Since Christmas is almost there, we will do some handicraft to improve our booth material and the flyer for our projects.
Our are welcome to join us for a cup of tea and some cookies.

FSFE will be holding its regular Zurich Fellowship group meeting next Thursday, 11th December at 18:00 CET. We'll also be celebrating the upcoming holiday season with Glühwein (mulled wine) and other goodies! We hope to see you there. There will be a Fellowship meeting at the FSFE Zurich office from 18:00 until 19:00 on Friday the 21st of November. Some free (as in beer) beer will be provided and all Fellows nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, to discuss ways of spreading the word about Free Software in Switzerland, and to generally have a good time. On Tuesday, 18th november at 19.00 h again all fellows and people who want to support FSFE or simply want to inform about Free Software will gather at the Fellowship Meeting in Hallmackenreuther, Brüsseler Platz, Cologne.

On Saturday, 15th November at 14:00 h there will be a Fellowship meeting at the TIS Innovation Park of Bolzano. The meeting is open to Fellows and all persons interested in FSFE's work in Italy and the projects of the Fellowship. The meeting has two parts. First Patrick Ohnewein, coordinator of the Italian FSFE group, will talk about the activities of the FSFE and the Fellowship in Italy. In the second part the Fellows will be invited to make proposals for and discuss about future initiatives to promote and help Free Software.

Le jeudi 6 novembre la FSFE participera à la conférence NLUUG d'automne. Le thème de cette année est la mobilité. Nous accueillerons avec plaisir les visiteurs sur notre stand et répondrons volontiers à leurs questions sur le Logiciel Libre. Le lendemain, vendredi 7 novembre, au même endroit, Shane Coughlan, coordinateur de la 'Freedom Task Force' de la FSFE, fera également un exposé intitulé "The strategic implementation of free software in business" («Implémentations stratégiques de Logiciels Libres en entreprise», présentation en anglais) à l'occasion de la CELF, la conférence européenne sur Linux embarqué.  La réalisation réussie d'un Logiciel Libre nécessite une bonne compréhension des politiques et processus les plus adaptés à son contexte. Shane expliquera comment la FSFE, à travers son projet juridique et son réseau juridique européen, contribue à cela en produisant des connaissances commerciales génériques sur les contrats de fourniture et d'acquisition, les documents de travail et les méthodologies de déploiement. Les deux conférences ont lieu à l'Hôtel - Centre de congrès «De Reehorst», Ede, Pays Bas.  

FSFE will be present with a booth at this years Brandenburger Linux Info Tag (BLIT). The Fellowship Group Berlin will man a booth to inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software. Also T-shirts and books about Free Software will be sold. The event starts at 10 am and takes place at the University Campus Griebnitzsee in Potsdam. Admission is free as in free beer.

Pour l'édition 2008 FSCONS est le fruit d'une coopération entre la FSFE, Creative Commons, et Wikimedia Suède. Il y aura trois sessions (Culture Libre, Logiciel Libre et Contenus Libres), chacune animée par l'un des principaux organisateurs. Les thèmes iront de la conception des noyaux récents au journalisme citoyen en passant par les licences du 21ème siècle.

SYSTEMS se tiendra du 21 au 24 octobre à Munich, en Allemagne. SYSTEMS est une exposition professionnelle "business-to-business" pour le marché des technologies de l'information. Elle s'adresse aux décideurs techniques et du monde des affaires, tant dans les entreprises commerciales que dans le secteur public.
Pour la première fois la FSFE sera présente avec un stand.

A Belgian Fellowship meeting will take place on Thursday August 7th in Brussels. We will meet at 20:00 in Café Walvis, 209 rue Antoine Dansaert, Brussels. It's an informal meeting, like the last meeting, so we'll mostly chat about whatever Free Software topics the attendees are interested in. We'll also continue the discussion of how to launch quarterly meetings, and Ciaran O'Riordan will give an update on OpenStreetMap. This meeting can be discussed on FSFE's Benelux mailinglist.

Le réseau juridique européen - que la Freedom Task Force de la FSFE aide - tiendra une réunion d'un groupe de travail spécifique à Bruxelles afin de discuter des brevets logiciels et d'autres problématiques légales. Le projet GNU aura 25 ans le 27 septembre. A cette occasion on fera sauter les bouchons à la porte de Brandebourg à Berlin. On se retrouvera à 15h00. Il y aura du champagne et de la musique pour fêter l'évènement. A dimanche.

A partir de 20h00 les Fellows de Vienne célèbreront leur "Software Freedom Day" dans un Pub nommé Pint Pub à Vienne. Le clou de la soirée sera les concerts des groupes "Club Valat" et "Klaus (from Fadin' to Whiteout)". Bien sûr, les non maniaques de l'informatique sont également les bien venus.

La braderie de Lille est un grand évènement qui se déroule en plein air pendant le premier week-end de septembre. chtinux, un groupe d'utilisateurs Linux de Lille a proposé à la Fellowship de participer à la Braderie. The Vienna Fellowship Group invites to a speech of Shane Martin Coughlan about "The Professionalisation of Free Software. Where we are going next." (in Englisch). The event which is organised in the context of a q/talk special takes place in Room D / quartier21, QDK / Electric Avenue, MQ Wien on 5 September 2008, starting at 20:00. Entrance is from 19:00. Shane Coughlan, FTF Coordinator at FSFE, will participate in the 'Driving innovation with Open Desktop Technologies' at Akademy 2008 on Tuesday, 12 August 2008. Shane will also be available around the conference during the rest of the 12th and 13th along with Armijn Hemel from GPL-violations.org. They will be glad to answer any questions people may have regarding licence compliance best practice and issue resolution.

A Belgian Fellowship meeting will take place on Thursday August 7th in Brussels. We will meet at 20:00 in Café Walvis, 209 rue Antoine Dansaert, Brussels. It's an informal meeting, like the last meeting, so we'll mostly chat about whatever Free Software topics the attendees are interested in. A lunch for Fellows of FSFE and Free Software friends in Barcelona from 14:00 until 16:00 with FSFE's Georg Greve, Jonas Öberg and Shane Coughlan. The meeting will be for informal and friendly discussions about FSFE, the Fellowship, the work of the Freedom Task Force, and everything else that you want to contribute to the discussion. SELF has contributed on various levels to freedom in software and education. The work of the SELF Legal Experts Group (LEG) has helped to evolve a better understanding of Open Standards and provided a reference line for free educational materials. The coordinator of the SELF LEG, FSFE president Georg Greve, will provide an insight on how SELF has helped advance the state of the art, and how the work done in the SELF consortium will provide lasting benefit to the Free Software community.

Shane will talk about the types of licence that provide and protect freedoms of use, study, sharing and improvement in both technology and educational text. He will review the main challenges that platforms like SELF may encounter from the legal point of view and what kind of mechanisms help support reliable legal infrastructure. He will also discuss the work of FSFE's Freedom Task Force in providing education and support services relating to legal support for Free Software in Europe.

The local Fellowship group in Berlin will have a joined barbecue with the FFII on the 10th of July. The meeting will start at 7:30pm in FFII office, which is located at the Malmöer Straße 6 close to Bornholmer Straße. Don't forget to bring you favourite barbecue stuff. If the weather permits, we will go to the Mauerpark at around 9pm. We love to welcome you there.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a speech entitled 'The Community and Meeting Obligations' for BT at 14:30 on the 2nd of July at Adastral Park in Ipswitch, UK. He will also be present for presentations and workshop sessions to be delivered with other parties on the same day.

A local Fellowship meeting will be held in Dublin on June 24th. Everyone interested in Free Software is welcome and invited to meet inside The White Horse at 20h00. Shane Coughlan will represent FSFE's FTF at IOTC 2008 in Dublin, Ireland. He will deliver a speech to open the conference on Wednesday the 18th of June discussing Free Software in business. This year's General Assembly of FSFE takes place in Zurich, and as usual, there will be a social event where the members of the General Assembly meet Fellows and other local Free Software supporters.
Around 18:20 the crowd will leave from the FSFE office at Sumatrastrasse 25 and walk through the old town in direction to Bellview.
At 19:00 we will catch a ferry from Zurich Burkiplatz.
At 19:47 the ferry will arrive in Erlenbach where -- due to the weather conditions -- we will continue the evening with a nice dinner at the Restaurant Malabar Garden in Kuesnacht where we expect to be until at least 23:00.

On Saturday 31th May 14-15 pm, Matthias Kirschner will give a speech at Linuxtag in Berlin. The talk is about the importance of the four freedoms to use, study, share and improve software and their influence in politics and economy. Target audience are beginners, or people who want to get some ideas how to explain this topic to beginners. The speech takes place at the BusinessForum (EG) and will be held in German.

FSFE's Freedom Task Force will host the first European Licensing and Legal Workshop for Free Software on Friday the 11th of April in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The venue for this meeting is the InterContinental Amstel Hotel. The event is targeted towards large projects and medium to large enterprises wishing to discuss their existing licence compliance processes. Parties attending are expected to contribute to issues ranging from process development through to optimising purchasing contract language for the benefit of the European Free Software community. This workshop has limited space available and therefore attendance is by invitation only. Projects and companies interested in attending this event should contact the FTF at ftf at fsfeurope.org.

On the 2nd of April FSFE and its Freedom Task Force (FTF) will give a course on the Strategic implementation of Free Software in Business in collaboration with the Internet Academy. The course will take place in Stockholm, Sweden. Those wishing to come should register their interest beforehand through the FTF contact form.

Friday, 29 March, the first Fellowship meeting in Augsburg will take place.

The speech will cover topics ranging from the creation of GPLv3 and its place in licensing through to examining the place of GPLv3 in tomorrow's market.

Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of FSFE's Freedom Task Force, will deliver the keynote speech at Chemnitzer Linux-Tagen at 13:00 on the 1st of March. The title of the keynote is 'Free Software in the ICT mainstream' on issues ranging from licensing through to Free Software on the desktop.

Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of FSFE's Freedom Task Force, will host a breakout session discussing licensing issues at the "Standards and the Future of the Internet" conference in Geneva, Switzerland, on the 26th of February. The conference will be held at the International Conference Centre and confirmed speakers include Vint Cerf, Carlo Piana, Thomas Vinje and Jeremy Allison.

FSFE attends FOSDEM, a European Free Software developer conference organized by volunteers wich takes place from 23rd - 24th of February in Brussels (Belgium).
The event promotes the widespread use of Free Software, to provide Free Software developers and communities a place to meet, to get in touch with other projects, and to promote the development and the benefits of Free Software solutions.
The FSFE will attend the event with a booth where visitors will be informed about recent activities, Free Software itself and the Fellowship of the FSFE. As usual, the FSFE's famous T-Shirts will be sold as well.

On Monday 18. February at 19:00 Richard M. Stallman, founder of the GNU project and the FSF, will give a speech at the mediacentre - Atrium, Johannisstrasse 20, in 10117 Berlin-Mitte. He will talk about the history and philosophy of Free Software. The Berlin Fellowship group will have a small booth there and inform visitors about the local groupd and FSFE's work in Germany and Europe. Admission starts at 18:30. The organisers suggest a donation of ~5 EUR to cover the costs.

The SELF project, of which FSFE is a member, together with Internet Society Bulgaria, the French Cultural Institute and Linux for Bulgarians, are organising an international conference on Science, Education and Learning in Freedom on the 10th of February at the French Cultural Institute in Sofia, 2 Dyakon Ignatij Str., Sofia, Bulgaria.

Jonas Öberg, vice president of the FSFE, will give a talk entitled "How to do procurement of Free Software: the Swedish Example" during an event in Sofia, Bulgaria, on municipalities use of ICT. The event takes place at the Sheraton hotel on the 7th of february.

A number of Free Software related events will happen around the Internet Governance Forum in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
On 11 November, a discussion oriented conference with the title "Digital Inclusion: Accelerating Global Participation and Access through Open ICT Standards" takes place from 8:30 to 17:30.
The Dynamic Coalition on Open Standards sponsors an Open Workshop titled "The Intersection of Open ICT Standards, Development, and Public Policy" on 12 November from 15:30 to 17:00, and a Best Practice Workshop on "Open ICT Standards for Greater Citizen Access: Best Practices in Government Policy and Procurement Practices" on 13 November from 16:30 to 18:00.
All these events take place in the Windsor Barra Hotel.

FSFE will have a booth at the Come2Linux, which takes place from 10 to 11 November in Essen, Germany. Michael Kesper from the German team and Dr Michael Stehmann from FTFs legal network will be available to answer questions. Also, T-shirts and other merchandise will be sold at the event as usual.

The FSFE will participate with a booth on Internetdagarna in Stockholm, Sweden, between the 5th and 6th of November. FSFE will inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software, like the Freedom Task Force, software patents, the SELF project, GPLv3, or the Fellowship of FSFE.

On the 3rd of November, Shane Coughlan from FSFE will speak at elce2007 about the business advantages inherent in Free Software and describe the licences that facilitate the freedoms it delivers. He will discuss the processes that help companies ensure they maximise benefit and minimise liability in Free Software deployment. He will also outline how Free Software and Open Standards work together to ensure a competitive marketplace.

Shane Coughlan will deliver a talk about Quality Assurance, enterprise reliability and positive steps in Free Software to ensure it meets business requirements at a joint NLUUG/NLLGG event taking place in the same venue as LinuxWorld NL. The event kicks off at 18:30 and continues until 20:30.

On the 18. October from 14:00 to 15:30 Matthias Kirschner, FSFE's German deputy coordinator, will take part in a panel discussion at the Sustainable-IT conference. The topic of the discussion is "IT sustainability -- international. How can software contribute to resource protection and a fair distribution of knowledge". It takes place at the Kalkscheune, Johannisstraße 2 in Berlin. Registration on their website is required. Admission fee is 25 EUR, reduced 15 EUR.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will present a lunch briefing at the Digicomp Academy Zurich, Switzerland focused on Free Software in business and licensing issues.

On Tuesday the 4th of July at 17.00, the FSFE is organising a summer Fellowship meeting at its offices in Göteborg. The FSFE will inform about its activities and provide an opportunity for Fellows to meet each other.

On Thursday June 28th at 21h00, there will be the first Benelux meeting of the Fellowship. The aim will be to get to know each other and to discuss what each person would like to get active on in the coming year. There will also be a social session on the night of Saturday June 30th. Details about venues will be on the Fellowship site as the information becomes available.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a two day course entitled 'Free Software licenses and other questions' at the Digicomp Academy Zurich, Switzerland. The course is intended for project managers, developers and technicians who wish to become more knowledgeable regarding code distribution options.

Free Software Foundation Europe in collaboration with the European Training Centre for Social Affairs and Public Health (EIPA-CEFASS) is organising an International Conference: "FLOSS: A Valuable Opportunity for Public Administrations".
The Conference is designed for Civil servants, Senior Civil Servants (Directors & Unit Heads), lawyers and politicians in EU Member States and countries surrounding the EU who are involved in the procurement of IT solutions and in strategic decisions about innovation and eGovernment, and who provide legal advice on copyright and patents.

Prof. Arturo Di Corinto will moderate two speeches on the ethics and practice of free, open source software, by Richard Stallman, founder of the Free Software movement, and Bruce Perens, founder of the Open Source Initiative. The event, in collaboration with Free Software Foundation Europe, the italian Associazione per il Software Libero, Linux User Group La Sapienza, Wikimedia Italia, will be an opportunity to listen to the leading actors of the evolution of free/libre software.
The event will be held Thursday June 7th from 9.30am until 1.30pm at the Aula Magna della Caserma Sani, located in Via Principe Amedeo, 184. It is reachable walking from Termini Rail Station or by the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele metro station.
Admission is free for the whole event. Audio/Video streaming will be also available.

On Thursday June 7, 2007 at 3:30 pm in the V G Kulkarni Auditorium at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Mumbai, India, Georg Greve gives a talk about Free Software and science.
Free Software and science share common roots, and benefit society in several similar ways. In his talk, Mr Greve will explain the concept of Free Software and how it relates to maintaining our scientific basis as a society. As a practical example of this collaboration, the talk will give a brief introduction of the Science, Education and Learning in Freedom project, in which the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research plays a crucial role. The talk will close with an overview of how all of this relates to the global political trends of knowledge monopolisation, and the Access to Knowledge initiative.

FSFE will be present with a booth at LinuxTag 2007, which takes place at Berlin's Expo Center under the Funkturm. FSFE will inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software, like the Freedom Task Force, software patents, the SELF project, GPLv3, or the Fellowship of FSFE. Also it is planned to sell T-Shirts from FSFE and books about Free Software. Please take the opportunity to get informed about Free Software and FSFE.

The biggest event in this year's Austrian Linuxwochen series takes place from 31 May to 2 June 2007 in the Urania building in Vienna. The FSFE is there during the whole event with a booth to inform people about its work and about Free Software in general.

La conférence eLiberatica est l'évenement majeur concernant le Logiciel Libre en Roumanie. Elle se tiendra le 18 et le 19 Mai, à Braşov, en Roumanie, et est organisée par ROSI, une association roumaine promouvant le Logiciel Libre, et par Agora Media, entreprise roumaine de communication. Le but d'eLiberatica est d'unifier les initiatives roumaines promouvant le Logiciel Libre, et d'inciter les entreprises à adopter le Logiciel Libre, en favorisant les initiatives locales. La conférence s'adresse donc aux programmeurs, aux étudiants, et au monde de l'entreprise. Georg Greve y parlera des standards ouverts et de la libre concurrence.

On thursday the 17th of may, the FSFE and Digifri, Sweden, invites you to attend a lecture by Richard Stallman on Copyright vs Community in the Age of Computer Networks. The lecture will take place at Linköping University, room C4 at 17.00.

On Wednesday the 16th of may, the FSFE and Göteborg University, Sweden, invites you to attend a lecture by Richard Stallman on Free Software and Beyond: Human Rights in the Use of Software and Other Published Works. Stallman will speak about the history and philosophy of the Free Software Movement, address how the ideas of Free Software do or don't extend to other kinds of published works and explain what the Pirate Party must change in its program to avoid unintended negative consequences in the software field.

On Monday 7 May 2007 at 19:30, Shane M. Coughlan gives an introduction to Free Software Licensing and the Freedom Task Force in the Restaurant "Philipp" in Düsseldorf, Fürstenwall 120. The event was organised by the local Fellowship group. Admission is free.

On April 27th-29th 2007, the weekend of World "Intellectual Property Day", the Yale Information Society Project will hold its Second Annual Access to Knowledge (A2K) Conference. This A2K conference program focuses on mobilizing Industry, Civil Society, Governments and Technologists, around human rights, human development and the public interest in the domain of innovation and information policy, as well as understanding the theoretical underpinnings of access to knowledge issues. Georg Greve will be present, advocating Free Software, and will act as a moderator in the Mobilizing Technologists Panel.

Shane Coughlan, FSFE Freedom Task Force coordinator, will deliver a speech entitled 'Introduction to Free Software' at ETH Zurich during the "Linux-Day V" event for students. Shane will be speaking at 13:15 on the 27th of April at ETH Zentrum HG E33.1.

On Sunday April 1st, at 17h00, in Brussels, Richard Stallman will present the current status of the global project to update Free Software's keystone licence: the GNU GPL. This talk will be Stallman's first since the release of discussion draft 3 - the draft crafted to block patent deals such as that of Novell+Microsoft. This draft has also been simplified, and the DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) and tivoisation clauses have also been altered significantly.

The Fellowship group in Düsseldorf has invited GnuPG's principal author Werner Koch to speak about the Fellowship crypto card and its practical use. The event starts on 28 March 2007 at 19:00 in the "Gaststätte Phillip" in Düsseldorf. Admittance is free, although donations for the FSFE are of course welcome.

FSFE will attend FOSDEM 2007 which takes place from 24th - 25th of February in Brussels, Belgium. FOSDEM is a European Free Software developer conference organized by volunteers.
The FSFE will be present with a booth where visitors will be informed about recent activities, Free Software itself and the Fellowship of the FSFE. Georg Greve, president of FSFE, will do this year's Closing Keynote, on the topic of "Beyond GPLv3: Free Software today and tomorrow". Shane M. Coughlan will be giving a Lightning talk at FOSDEM about the Free Software licensing and the Freedom Task Force. As usual, T-Shirts will be sold as well.
The event promotes the widespread use of Free Software, to provide Free Software developers and communities a place to meet, to get in touch with other projects, and to promote the development and the benefits of Free Software solutions.

Georg Greve, president of FSFE, has been invited to act as an observer at the third session of the Provisional Committee on Proposal Related to a WIPO Development Agenda (PCDA); he already participated to the 1st and the 2nd session. The meeting will be held in Geneva, from February 19th to 23rd, 2007.

During the second leg of the SELF project, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR will organise the second BOARD meeting in Mumbai, India. The issues that will be discussed are related to SELF Support Programme (SSP), Finances and budget, Expert groups, and other strategic plans. The week long meeting comprises of two days workshop sessions, three days board meeting, one day SELF conference and one day for a social event. George Greve and Jonas Oberg, president and vice president of the FSFE, will be part of the Legal Experts Group.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force (FTF) coordinator, will attend the LIFT conference in Geneva, Switzerland. LIFT is a conference to explore the challenges and opportunities of technology in society. Shane will participate in the 'Legal issues and perspectives' workshop hosted by the Swiss lawfirm BCCC.

The president of FSFE, Georg Greve, will give a lecture titled "What is Free Software and are Free Software solutions professional enough for our daily business?" during the "Nexell informiert", in Zurich. The lecture is starting on 4 December at 17:30 at "Schweizerisches Institut für Betriebsökonomie".
"Nexell informiert" is a meeting where experts are invited to talk and spread awareness about Free Software issues, organised by the Nexell, an independent team of international and multilingual CRM professionals, there to help customers find the right technologies, platforms and solutions to meet their needs and budgets.

FSFE president Georg Greve will participate as member of the jury at the Third Edition of the Trophées du Libre. The ceremony will take place the 30 November 2006 at Soissons (France). Trophées du Libre is an international competition rewarding the best free software projects among 6 categories: Security, Multimedia and Games, Company management, Educational, Applications for Public infrastructures and for communities, PHP.

The 5th international conference on GPLv3 will be a 2-day event held in Japan on November 21st and 22nd. Organised by Free Software Initiative Japan, this event will host experts and interested parties who will make presentations and participate in discussions about Free Software's cornerstone licence. FSFE will be represented by Georg Greve (President) and Ciarán O'Riordan. The joint goals are to maximise awareness of the GPLv3 process and to give attendees the information necessary to make informed comments on the licence drafts and to help them to explain the proposed changes to others.

OpenTuesday meetings are monthly meetings where experts are invited to talk and spread awareness about Free Software issues.

Dublin, Ireland. Ciarán O'Riordan will give a presentation on GNU GPLv3 regarding the state of the discussion and the options open on DRM and tivoisation - using the Linux kernel as an example. This presentation will be part a day-long event for the ILUG AGM.

From 30 October to 2 November the UN is holding its first Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Athens, Greece. FSFE president Georg Greve is participating to discuss issues of software sovereignty and to participate in the high level panel on Access.

FSFE will be at the "LinuxWorld Expo" in London, on the 25th/26th of October. FSFE will have a booth at the event. Please come and visit us to learn more about Free Software, the work of the FSFE and the Fellowship.

At the Internet days 2006 in Stockholm, Sweden, FSFE vice president Jonas Öberg will participate in a panel discussion on open document formats. The FSFE will also be present with a booth during the event.

This year's annual KDE conference will be held in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. FSFE will be represented by Ciaran O'Riordan who will deliver a keynote on Software Patents at 13:45 on Sunday the 24th, and will lead a Birds of a Feather session on GPLv3 from 19:00 to 20:00 on Tuesday th 26th. aKademy is generally technical in nature.

Georg Greve, president of FSFE, will partecipate in a policy panel, at the workshop "IPR protection of software", to explain and make clear the advantages and benefits of Free Software licensing. The panel will take place on the second day of the workshop, the 22nd of September at 13:00. The venue is the Hotel Linna, Helsinki.

FSFE will organise a GPLv3 workshop at this year's Wizards of OS conference in Berlin on Friday, September 15th, from 17h00 to 19h00. Georg Greve and Ciaran O'Riordan will be joined by members of FSF Latin America, FSFE's sister organisation, to present the main changes proposed for GPLv3 and to examine to current state of the public discussion process.

At the "Tiroler Linuxtag", the last event in the Austrian "Linuxwochen" series, both Reinhard Müller and Patrick Ohnewein hold a keynote. Reinhard Müller gives a general overview on Free Software and informs about the Fellowship, and Patrick Ohnewein speaks about CoCOS, a competence center about Free Software, and about Free Software in Southern Tyrol.
The event takes place on 9 September 2006 from 10:00 to 17:00 at the UMIT, a private university in Hall in Tyrol. Admission is free.

Ciaran O'Riordan will present, and will take questions on, the main changes being made for version three of the GNU GPL. The goal of this evening is to give members of the Free Software community information to help them make constructive criticism and to suggest improvements during the remainder of the year-long public consultation process.

At one of the regular networking meetings of Dataföreningen Region West, Jonas Öberg, vice president of FSFE, will give an overview of the GPL version 3, the proposed changes and the rationale of them.

The 4th international conference for drafting version 3 of the GNU GPL will take place in Bangalore, India on August 23rd and 24th. The goals of the international conferences are to raise awareness of the proposed changes for the GNU GPL, and to explain the public consultation process so as to encourage maximal participation. The 2nd draft of GPLv3, launched on July 27th, will be discussed at this conference.

The public kick off conference for the "Science Education and Learning in Freedom" (SELF) project, will take place in the Hague, Netherlands on the 10th of July. Georg Greve, president of FSFE, and Jonas Oberg, vice president of FSFE, will participate at the conference. Greve will be the keynote on the topic "Strategic implications of Free Software in the Netherlands and in Europe", and Oberg will lead the panel discussion about "The Open Content Revolution"

Comme partie intégrante du travail actuel de la FSFE pour réformer le système global des droits d'auteur, brevets et marques, le Président de la FSFE, Georg Greve, participera à la 2ème session du Comité Provisoire de l'Organisation Mondiale de la Propriété Intellectuelle sur les Propositions Relatives à l'Agenda de Développement de l'OMPI, comme il a participé à la première session en février 2006. Ciaran O'Riordan will give an overview of the current proposal for how v3 of the GNU GPL will differ from v2. Topics will include a description of the year-long public consultation process and how GPLv3 will strive to preserve freedom in spite of DRM, software patents, and a complicated legal World.

At this two day international conference, the experts on GPLv3 and Free Software licencing will present the proposed changes to Free Software's corner stone licence, the GNU General Public License. The experts will also take questions from attendees and topical discussions will be organised. The joint goals are to raise awareness of the GPLv3 process and to give attendees the information necessary to explain the proposed changes to others.

Austria's largest Free Software event takes place from Wednesday, 31 May 2006, 10:00, to Friday, 2 June 2006, 22:00, in the Urania building, Uraniastraße 1, First District, Vienna. Admission is free.

At the 5th System Administration and Network Engineering Conference in Delft, Georg Greve, president of FSFE, will give an introduction to the GPL version 3, the changes made, their reasoning and how to participate in the process to make sure GPLv3 will be the best GPL we can collectively create.

As every year, the FSFE will be present at the GNU/LinuxTag, one of the highlights of the Free Software year since 1996, with many volunteers and presentations to spread knowledge about Free Software and the work of FSFE. Meet many of the FSFE activists and visit their talks about WIPO, GPLv3, DRM, and other topics.

Federico Heinz will give two talks in Dublin, Ireland. One on "Free Software and Education", and one on "The Imperative for Free Software in Public Administration". This event is being organised by Ciaran O'Riordan with Irish Free Software Organisation. O'Riordan will also make a presentation about GPLv3: the process and the largest changes.

The Grand Jury of the EU Court of Justice is ready for the big hearing on the Microsoft Antitrust Case. The hearing will take place in the Grande Salle of the EU Court, from the 24th until the 28th of April. Georg Greve president of FSFE, Carlo Piana FSFE's lawyer on the case and Andrew Tridgell of the Samba Team will be present at the event to defend the Court from Microsoft's legal team efforts of circumventing once again their obligations.

At the first international conference on Access to Knowledge, held at Yale Law School, Karsten Gerloff will moderate a panel discussion on "Licensing Frameworks for Access to Knowledge". The goal of the conference is to come up with a new analytic framework for analysing the possibly distortive effects of public policies relying exclusively on copyright and patents. Participants will be looking for alternative ways to foster greater access to knowledge in the digitally connected environment.

The 7th edition of the Free Software Forum (FISL) will once more take place in Porto Alegre, Brazil and also host the second international conference on GPLv3. FSFE will be represented at this event by its president, Georg Greve, and FSFE's Brussels representative, Ciaran O'Riordan. Both will speak at the GPLv3 event, and participate during the main FISL event: Georg Greve will give one of the opening talks, titled "Free Software - Social Movement or Technological Revolution?" and Ciaran O'Riordan will talk about work against software patents. Both will also work with FSFE's sister association, the FSF Latin America and meet the local Free Software community to strengthen the international Free Software network.

Ciaran O'Riordan and Gareth Bowker will speak in London on why and what FSFE does to prevent legislative harm to software freedom - harm such as that caused by patenting software or distorting copyright. O'Riordan will also discuss the GPLv3 and its year-long public consultation process. Both will take questions.

On 18th March, Richard Stallman will talk in Turin about the future of Free Software, introducing the Italian audience to the updating process of the GNU General Public License ("the GPL"), the license that protects the freedom of about 100 million software users in the world, being the most used license for Free Software.

The third Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place on 17 March starting at 18:00 in Vienna at the Cafe Panoptikum, Schultergasse 4, first district.
This time Karin Kosina and Reinhard Müller want to give an overview of the various projects FSFE is working on, and also continue the discussion about Free Software in Austrian schools. Ideas for other topics are of course welcome, too.

As every year, the Free Software Foundation Europe will participate in the FOSDEM in Brussels, a European Free Software Developer Conference. As every year, the FSFE Team will be speaking with many people from the Free Software community, inform about its work and this year even present a little surprise.

After the Inter-Sessional Inter-Governmental Meetings (IIM) on the establishment of a Development Agenda at the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Georg C. F. Greve and Karsten Gerloff of FSFE will also participate in the 2006 WIPO Provisional Committee on Proposals Related to a WIPO Development Agenda (PCDA) followup.

FSF Europe, represented by Georg C. F. Greve, Ciaran O'Riordan, and Stefano Maffulli, will participate in the presentation of a first discussion draft on version 3 of the GNU General Public License at the Free Software Foundation First International Conference on GPLv3, being held at the MIT in Cambridge, USA.

The second Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place on 13 January starting at 18:00 in Vienna in the Otto-Wagner Pavillion near Karlsplatz in the side room upstairs, right hand from the staircase. Like last time, Karin Kosina and Reinhard Müller will inform about FSFE's work, and we expect interesting discussions. A major discussion point this time will be "Free Software in education". This invitation addresses to all people interested in FSFE or Free Software.

At the Chaos Computer Club's 22nd Chaos Communication Congress, Karsten Gerloff will give a talk on Free Software, Access to Knowledge and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). The talk is scheduled for Dec. 30th, 14:00.

Georg C. F. Greve, President of FSFE, will participate in panels about e-government and digital society at LACFREE II, a UNESCO sponsored conference on Free Software development and usage being held in the Brazilian cities Recife and Olinda.

Having been invited to the 5th Regional Free Software Days, Georg Greve will participate in this important Latin American event, which spans technical, social and cultural topics. He will also be a guest to the public part of the first general assembly of the Free Software Foundation Latin America, which is going to be held at this event.

In an event organised by FSFE's associate organisation Irish Free Software Organisation, FSFE's Brussels Representative, Ciaran O'Riordan, will speak about his work to prevent software patents, and what could be the road ahead. He, and the other speakers, will also discuss similar legislation, which is getting much less attention, such as IPRED2.

The second phase of the United Nations (UN) World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) will be held between 14th and 18th November in Tunis. Georg C. F. Greve, President of FSFE, will be working to promote digital freedom and equality in discussions and side-events with other participants from Governments, Civil Society, the Private Sector and the United Nations.

From 15. to 17. November, FSFE will be at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo 2005. FSFE will be present with a booth. Please take the opportunity to get informed about Free Software, the work of the FSFE and the Fellowship. There will also be the chance to get informed about the OpenPGP smartcard.

The World Summit on the Information Society and the role of Local Authorities is held in Bilbao, Spain between the 9th and 11th of november. Jonas Öberg will participate in the workshop on Free Software on the 10th of november at 16.45 to discuss the importance of Free Software in government administration.

Georg C. F. Greve, President of FSF Europe, will be speaking at Tweakfest 2005 - Visions of Digital Life Style on Nov 10th 2005 in Zürich, a congress organised by the local Academy of Design and Art.
The topic of his talk will be "Who owns the Information Society? - Open source is not enough!"

On 4 November, starting at 18:00, a Fellowship meeting will take place in the "Käuzchen" in Vienna, Gardegasse 8. Karin Kosina and Reinhard Müller will inform about the work of the FSFE and discuss with interested people. The invitation is adressed at everybody who is interested in the FSFE, wants to get active himself or just likes Free Software and wants to get in contact with other enthusiasts, not only at those who are part of the Fellowship. The Swedish Internet infrastructure foundation is organising the conference Internetdagarna 2005 at the Clarion Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden, between the 24th and 25th of october. Several issues will be discussed during the conference, including a discussion on Sweden's IT policy and the dangers of a digital divide. FSF Europe's Jonas Öberg will participate throughout the conference

At the Third Conference on Free Software in the Amazonas, Georg Greve will meet with local and international Free Software activists to work on questions related to Free Software and Development.

Stefano Maffulli, Italian Chancellor, will be speaking at the biggest professional conference of the Hungarian Internet users. The event will see participants from the communication and financial experts, from governmental institutions, and representatives of Telkom, ISP and other service institutions. The subject of this year's conference is: what possibilities are there on the Internet for the media and communication industry, and what sort of business activities can be carried out with the help of the Internet, with special attention to those economic activities.

On the 3rd of October, Jonas Öberg will participate in a workshop on the World Summit of the Information Society, focused on Internet Governance and Human Rights. The workshop is organised by the Collegium for Development Studies at Uppsala University, Sweden, and will be held at the Hammarskog Conference Centre, Sweden.

FSFE will take part in this final preparatory meeting for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). We will contribute the perspective of Free Software to the various meetings and negotiations.

FSFE's president Georg Greve has been invited to speak at the Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Development and Use of Free Software. He will talk about Free Software as a social movement and its interaction in the political field, in particular on United Nations level, such as WIPO. Georg Greve is also looking forward to a session on the Free Software Foundations with participants from FSF Latin America, FSF India and FSF Europe. During this event he will share with the audience some of the work that FSFE has done in the past years.

Stefano Maffulli, Italian Chancellor, will be speaking at the OpenOffice.org Conference 2005 in Koper - Capodistria (Slovenia). Participants are invited to register (free of charge).

London, August 13th is the Annual General Meeting of UK-based Association For Free Software (AFFS). This year Ciaran O'Riordan will be giving a talk about what has been achieved and what we must do to prepare for the future battles over software patentability.

At the What the Hack! outdoor conference, Georg Greve will give a talk on FSFE's work and the Fellowship project. Karsten Gerloff will hold a lecture on WIPO and the Development Agenda.

Following up on FSFE's activities during the first two part of WIPO's Meetings on a Development Agenda, Georg Greve and Karsten Gerloff will work to make sure the needs of Free Software are taken into account in any WIPO agreements.

The "Jornades des Programari Lliure" is a Free Software conference in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Catalonia. Karin Kosina will give an introduction to 3D programming with Coin3D on 7 July at 15:30 and hold a speech about making money with Free Software on 8 July at 11:30.

At the GNU/Linuxtag 2005, world's biggest GNU/Linux fair, FSFE will present itself with two booths, several talks and a large number of people. For the second part of World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)'s Intersessional Intergovernmental Meeting, FSFE will again send a delegation to Geneva. In coordination with other Civil Society Actors, FSFE will work to direct WIPO's work towards increasing intellectual wealth and addressing the needs and demands of Free Software.

On 8th June 2005 FSFE will be present at the round table "Art culture knowledge democracy". Italian chancellor Stefano Maffulli will be there with other participants like Brasilian Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil, Italian Creative Commons Public Lead, Juan Carlos De Martin and many more.

At the WSIS Contributory Conference in Vienna, Georg Greve will hold a speech "Free Software as intellectual wealth for the information society". The conference aims to come to a "Vienna Declaration on Creativity" which will call attention to the fact that creativity is a natural resource of the human mind.

Staring 14h30, after a street demonstration against software patents, FSFE will be organising a Freedom Party to celebrate digital freedom as part of its Fellowship campaign. The venue hasn't been set yet, but it will be close to Square de Meeus, where the street demonstration ends. Square de Meeus is a grassy square that sits on either side of Rue de Luxembourg, half-way between the European Parliament and Trone metro station.

Karin Kosina will open the event with a keynote on May 24th, and will speak about the importance of the term "Free Software" on May 26th. Georg Greve will give a talk about Free Software in B2B and public administrations on May 25th. Both will also take part in panel discussions.

Georg Greve will participate in a Conference on Access to Knowledge (A2K), organised by the group Trans Atlantic Consumer Dialogue. At the London event, consumer representatives, librarians, experts from governments, international and civil society organizations will work on proposals for an Access to Knowledge Treaty.

At the invitation of the World Bank, Georg Greve will speak to IT and procurement professionals attending a training in procurement of information systems. He will signal the specific advantages of Free Software for development projects.

From 12. April to 15. April, the FSFE will participate in the inter-sessional intergovernmental meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva. As only permanent observers were invited to participate, most Civil Society organisations will not be allowed to attend this highly critical meeting on the future agenda of WIPO. The FSFE delegation so far consists of Georg Greve, Karsten Gerloff and Volker Grassmuck. Together with other Civil Society actors, they will work to see WIPOs mission reoriented towards increasing intellectual wealth and see Free Software questions properly addressed.

A conference on Free Software will be held at Istanbul Bilgi University on March 4th and 5th 2005. The focus will be on the opportunities Free Software offers for the Turkish economy. On March 4th, Georg Greve will deliver a speech on commercial, practical and sociological aspects of Free Software and the GNU Project.

LinuxForum 2005 will be held in Copenhagen during the weekend between the 4th and 5th of March. FSF Europe will be represented by Henrik Sandklef, together with the Danish organisation IT-Politisk Forening that is working for information freedom in Denmark.

Between the 2nd and 4th of March, Karin Kosina and Jonas Öberg will give talks at the Free and Open Source Software Workshop in Damascus. Karin will talk about the economic aspects of Free Software and Jonas will talk about formal education on Free Software on a university level.

Between the 26th and 27th of February, this years installment of FOSDEM will take place in Brussels. The FSF Europe will be represented by several members and volunteers, and will also sell t-shirts and other merchandise.

FSFE is planning to participate in the Preparatory Committee (2. PrepCom) meeting of the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Georg Greve intends to be in Geneva, Switzerland from 17. - 25. February 2005.

On Friday, 18th February, Georg Greve will give a talk at LOTS at the University of Bern, Switzerland. In his lecture, he will talk about the origins and the advantages of Free Software. Gratis admission for people who have registered until 31th of January, else you have to pay CHF 10.

FSFE is going to participate in the World Social Forum from 26th to 31st January 2005 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. On 26th January, Georg Greve will participate at an event with the topic "Digital Revolution: Knowledge Sharing x Impresionment on Information Society". The event will take place in Room A105 from 15:30 am to 18:30 am.

On Friday, Jan 14th 2005 at 19:30, Georg Greve will hold a talk about the challenges of Free Software in the digital age and about the work of the Free Software Foundation Europe. The talk will be held in Theatre Q, Arts Block on the UCD campus on January 14th and will be open to the public.

From November 26th until November 28th, 2004, the SFScon will take place in Bolzano, Italy. Two members of the Free Software Foundation Europe will give three different lectures: Werner Koch will speak about "Privacy and encryption techniques", Alessandro Rubini will present "Free Software in teaching" and gives an "Introduction to kernel programming".

The Congresso Internacional de Software Livre (CONISLI) -- a Free Software conference organized entirely by the Free Software community in Brazil -- will take place in the Anhembi Convention Center, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Georg Greve will open the congress with a keynote on Thursday.

On Saturday, Oct 9th 2004 16:00 pm, Georg Greve will participate at a round-table about Free Software at aLANtejo. The event is public, registration is required on the events website (only in Portuguese).

On Tuesday, Oct 5 2004, at 14:00 Georg Greve will speak about visions for Free Software. The speech will be delivered in German.

On Friday, Oct 1st 2004, Georg Greve will participate at the event about "autonomy and freedom of knowledge in the information society. Political, economical, and cultural consequences". The conference will start at 9:00 am and will end in the evening. The Event is designed for administrative directors, department chiefs, directors of office from South Tyrol as well as business people, interested organisations, and citizens. The event is public with no admission fee, but registration is required until Sep 30th on the events web site.

On September 23rd Georg Greve will participate to the Expert Meeting on Free Software. He will speak about Free Software and its role in advancing the information society, in particular developing countries.

On Monday, Sept 6 2004, Georg Greve will participate in a discussion round "digital commons" among Lawrence Lessig, the initiator of the prizewinning project "Creative Commons". Questions of the discussion will be: To whom does knowledge belong and how free are Free Software, content and infrastructure?

On Monday, July 22 at 10:00 Georg Greve holds a speech about the Free Software Foundation Europe. He also participates at round table discussions on the topic "Must governments support Free Software?" on Wednesday, July 21 from 12:30 to 13:30 and from 13:30 to 14:30 and on the topic "Software Patents in Europe" on Thursday, July 22 at the same time. The speeches will be delivered in English.

GNU/LinuxTag is one of the major Free Software events. Like every year, the FSF Europe will man a booth. Several of our team members will be there to answer questions about our activities, and we will sell merchandise like t-shirts and pins for the benefit of our work for Free Software. Bernhard Reiter and Georg Greve will hold talks about Free Software and its licenses Wednesday, 16:00, Thursday, 14:00, and Saturday, 13:00.

Within the "Wizards of OS 2004", a workshop with the title "Where next for copyright in Europe?" will be held. The list of speakers also includes Georg Jakob, Member of the FSF Europe, who will talk about winners and losers from the "Intellectual Proprerty Rights Enforcement Directive".

From May 20th, 2004 until June 10th, 2004, Georg Greve was touring South America, visiting the local Free Software community in Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil to support them in their struggle for freedom and share experiences collected in the work of the FSFE.

Henrik Sandklef will hold a 30 minute talk on Free Software in the Public Interest during the EuroPython 2004 conference. The talk will be held in Room 1 at 09:30 on the 8th of june.

Jonas Öberg and Henrik Sandklef will participate in a panel discussion on "Licensing your Python Applications" during the EuroPython 2004 conference. The discussion will take place in Room 3 at 16:00 on the 7th of june.
