FSFE fellows will run a booth at the Linuxtag event in Berlin this year. Information, merchandising and a friendly chat will be available at our booth at "Messegelände unter dem Funkturm".

FSFE will have a booth at the Toulouse Hacker Space Factory (THSF) from Mai 22 to 26, in Toulouse, France. The THSF in one of France's biggest general public meeting dealing with creative and political uses of technology. The event will take place at Mix'art Myrys.

For the first time, FSFE will participate in the Coliberator conference in Bucharest, Romania.

At the invitation of FSFE's associate organisation Ceata Karsten Gerloff will speak about technology, power and control. He will also describe FSFE's work to build public awareness for Free Software, and to create the foundations of a free information society.

Next Friday, 17th of May, from 9.30 to 13 it will take place in Milan the "Software Etico" meeting, promoted by Joomla!Lombardia. Diego Zanga, Fellow of FSFE, will cover the subject "Free Software in Public administration" Free Software, thanks to the communities linked to projects, is today a big and accountable reality, able to give to industry and to community more advantages than propietary software. The main aim of the meeting is to show to local stakeholders - local administration, firms, associations, family groups, etc - that Free Software is viable, thanks to the sustainability of its business model, and is socially ethical and fair. The meeting will be held in Italian.

FSFE will participate in the Croatian Open Systems Conference in Zagreb.

FSFE's president Karsten Gerloff will speak about technology, power and control (May 15, 11:00), and discuss FSFE's work to build a free information society (May 16, 9:00). Matija Šuklje, FSFE's legal coordinator, will hold a clinic to answer questions on licensing and other legal aspects of Free Software.

Auch dieses Jahr kann man sich in Graz wieder bei ganztägig Vorträgen und Informationsständen über GNU/Linux, Freie Software und damit zusammenhängenden Projekten informieren. Statt findet das Event an der FH Joanneum und ist ein absolutes Muss für alle, die sich für diese Themen interessieren.
Die FSFE wird sich mit einem Informationsstand präsentieren, sowie 2 Vorträgen:

• Albert Dengg: "Free your Android: Wie frei ist das System wirklich, und was kann man tun um die Situation zu verbessern?"
• Peter Bubestinger: "Aufnehmen. Mischen. Mastern: professionelle Audioproduktion mit Freier Software!"

The first official meeting of FSFE's Fellowship group in Bari will Will be held on Saturday, April 13th at 16:00. The meeting will be at Hotel Parco dei Principi, Viale Europa 6 (a short distance from the airport Bari-Palese). All Fellows, new and old, are invited to participate and to establish the new group and to plan our work. The meeting room is booked in the name of Marco Brushes.

Auf dem 12. "Augsburger Linux-Infotag" hat die FSFE einen Informations- und Verkaufsstand. Die Veranstaltung findet am 23. März 2013 von 9:30 bis 17:30 im Fachbereich Informatik der Hochschule Augsburg statt. Der Eintritt ist frei.

Die "Chemnitzer Linux Tage" sind eine Veranstlatung rund um GNU/Linux und Freie Software für jedermann. Die FSFE wird mit einem Stand vertreten sein, an dem Sie sich über unsere Arbeit informieren können und die Menschen hinter der FSFE kennen lernen können.

Am 14.März ist es wieder mal an der Zeit für Berlins nächstes Fellowshipmeeting und es findet statt in der e-lok (nähe Ostkreuz). Karsten Gerloff, Präsident der FSFE, wird als Gast zum Fellowship meeting erwartet und er freut sich sehr uns zu treffen. Aus diesem Anlass werden wir auch eine lang angedachte GnuPG-Key-signing party madchen unter dem Motto: "Key Signing Party - Lass dich vom Präsidenten zeichnen!"

Als weiteren Punkt werden wir Berlins DFD Award planen, der inzwischen zum deutschen DFD Award geworden ist. Wenn du bei der Auszeichnung dabei sein möchtest solltest du dir das Fellowship meeting nicht entgehen lassen um alle Details zu klären.

Am Dienstag den 5. März hält Erik Albers einen Vortrag auf dem CeBIT Open Source Forum zu "Die volle Kontrolle über Dein Gerät - Free Your Android". Der Vortrag beginnt um 16 Uhr mit anschließender Diskussionsmöglichkeit. Das Forum befindet sich in Halle 6, Stand F02.

Am Montag dem 4. März hält Matthias Kirschner bei der Fliegergruppe der Bundespolizei einen Vortrag zum Thema "Die zehn größten Mythen zum Thema Freier Software" mit anschließender Diskussion zur Beschaffung Freier Software. Die Veranstaltung findet um 10:00 Uhr in Sankt Augustin für Anghörige der Bundespolizei statt.

The Hackerspace in Jena, "Krautspace", is organising a "Free Your Android" workshop. Erik Albers from the FSFE will come and give the workshop. Afterwards, the participants will be able to host FYA workshops on their own and will do so in April.

The event will take place in the 'Krautspace', Jena, on 23.02. beginning at 15 hours. Please register before.

Richard Stallman, the president of the Free Software Foundation, will give a speech in the Aula Magna, at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest in February 22nd. He will be speaking about "Free Software and Your Freedom". The event is organised by Fundația Ceata, a group of people based in Bucharest that fights for computer users' freedom which is now the first Romanian Free Software foundation.

On 14th of February there will be the next Berlin Fellowship meeting and it is going to take place at e-lok (next to Ostkreuz). There will be the possibility to meet other Fellows as well as other Free Software enthusiasts. This can be quite some fun, especially as it is "I love Free Software" day. In addition, you can get good food and best drinks at e-lok to spend a happy evening. Official start is at 19:30.

There is the idea of contributing to #IloveFS by presenting/spreading awesome Free Software. If you have a good software in mind, you would like to share with us and you can explain it in 3 minutes, you are welcome to promote it at our meeting!

Manchester's FSFE Fellowship group will be meeting in 'Common' at 19.30 for their monthly social exchange. All welcome.

This year, FOSDEM will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of February 2013 in Brussels. FSFE will participate with a booth and three talks. Henrik Sanklef, Vice president of FSFE, will speak about Searduino Searduino on Saturday afternoon (at 14:20); Otto Kekäläinen, our finnish fellowship coordinator, will speak about fixing public procurement on Sunday afternoon (at 16:00); Eric Albers, Outreach coordinator, will speak about Free Your Android - phone liberation parties on Sunday (at 14:00). As like every year, we're looking forward to many meetings and discussions and also to a very good time for all.

Alexander Alvaro, Vice President of the European Parliament, is hosting a "Free Your Android" event on February 1st, at 16h00. There will be talks given by Erik Albers, Dimitrios Symeonidis and Cheryl D. Miller. If you are thinking about liberating your phone, you shouldn't miss this event. And if you have already liberated your phone, there will be an opportunity for you as well as for everyone interested to make professional recordings of testimonials running free software on mobile devices.

The event will take place in the 'Altiero Spinelli building', elevator G, 5th floor, room A5G375. You have to register, but registration is open and public.

At an event in France's Ministry of Economics, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will summarise the approaches that different European countries are taking towards Free Software.

To begin the GNU year, FSFE fellows and free software activists will gather for a meeting in Paris to discuss topics such as how to promote freedom and privacy-respecting Android mobile systems, and engage a debate on how to deal with social networks in the internet age with the GNU Consensus initiative. But it is also a nice opportunity for a relaxed and informal moment together, open to everybody. [See you at La Mutinerie.org, 19:00!]

Fellow Miriam Seyffarth und der stellvertretende Deutschlandkoordinator Torsten Grote, halten ein Grundlagenseminar "Freie Software" für die Grüne Jugend Thüringen. Das Seminar beginnt um 10:30 Uhr und wird bis etwa 17.30 Uhr in der Landesgeschäftsstelle, Lutherstr. 5 in Erfurt stattfinden. Teilnahme ist kostenlos, aber die Teilnehmer müssen sich, bis Sonntag 2. Dezember registrieren.

Miriam spricht am Vormittag über Herausforderungen für Freie Sofware, vor allem im politischen Bereich. Anschließend wird Torsten das Thema vertiefen.

For this year's last Berlin Fellowship meeting, we've prepared something special for all Fellows and friends: We'll meet at the Emmaus Church near Goerlitzer Bahnhof to enjoy a talk by Volker Grabsch. Volker, having 100 CACert Assurance Points, gives us insights on daily security using encryption, key-signing and certificates!

On December 11th at 18.00 hours, Erik Albers will give a speech about FSFE's FreeYourAndroid campaign at the Institut für Informatik, FU Berlin. The talk is organized by Spline Talks and is open for public at no charge. The talk, in German, will be held in Raum K60, Takustr. 9, 14195 Berlin.

Next weekend, on 8th and 9th December,Hannes Hauswedell, FSFE fellow and Germn Team coordinator for pdfreaders.org, is organising a mini-hackaton to finish YAFFS2-support. The event, hosted at IN-Berlin e.V., will run from Saturday (from 11) to Sunday (until 18). If you want to help, join us in Lehrter Straße, 53.

The "Berliner Spindel" a group of junior staff in the Berlin administration organises an evening discussion about E-Government, Open Data, and Free Software on December 15th from 18:00 to 20:00. Matthias Kirschner is invited as an expert on Free Software, to talk about the role of Free Software for the public administration. The event takes place at the Senatsverwaltung für Gesundheit und Soziales, room 1.125 (Oranienstraße 106, 10969 Berlin)

On December 4th, Erik Albers will give a speech about FSFE's FreeYourAndroid campaign at the Netzpolitischer Abend der Digitalen Gesellschaft. The talk, in German, will be held at c-base and is open for public at no charge.

Im Rahmen des „Linuxday“ in Dornbirn wird Albert Dengg vom österreichischen Team der FSFE einen Vortrag über die „Free your Android“-Kampange halten. Der Vortrag wird am 24. November 2012 um 11:00 in der HTL Dornbirn stattfinden.

Die FSFE ist am 24.11.2012 mit einem von der Wiener Fellowshipgruppe organisierten Informationsstand auf dem 14. „Linuxday“ in Dornbirn im Vierländereck von Deutschland, Liechtenstein, Österreich und der Schweiz vertreten. In drei parallelen Vortragsreihen erfahren Einsteiger, Linuxprofis, sowie Entscheidungsträger aus Wirtschaft und öffentlicher Verwaltung Wissenswertes über Freie Software.

In November, FSFE will be present at the French event JDLL in Lyon, France. Every year, this event regroups organisations advocating Free Software and people giving talks over a complete week end in the center of Lyon. We'll be there the entire time from the 17th to the 18th. One of our interns, Léopold Baillard, will even be there the whole week if you want to meet with him. He will also give a talk about the Free Your Android campaign. The event takes place in Maison pour Tous - Salle des Rancy. We are looking forward to see you there!

At the South Tyrol Free Software Conference (SFScon), there will be a FreeYourAndroid workshop. If you would like to attend, please register and write an email to Erik Albers . The workshop will be on November 16th at the TIS Innovation Park in Bolzano.

On November 15th at 18.30, Matthias Kirschner will give a speech at the university of Jena, about computers as general purpose machines. The talk, in German, will be held in the main building (UHG), room 235 at Fürstengraben 1, Jena.

FSFE will organise the "General Purpose Computing" track. Despite the fact that computers and - more and more - portable devices are universal machines, todays hardware often comes with anti-features or Digital Restrictions Management. This track by the FSFE will focus on this ongoing and increasing process of users restrictions. Thereby it concentrates on current trends and what we are in need of to stop them.

On November 8, at 6.30 PM, at the Department of Computer science of the University of Milan (Via Comelico 39, 20135 Milan), it will take place a Fellowship Meeting, during which we will discuss about next Fellowship activities in Lombardia. The Meeting is open to the public.

In preparaton for the Manchester Central by-election, political candidates will answer questions on issues effecting Manchester's digital indistry. This event, organised by FSFE, the Open Rights Group, the National Union of Journalists, and No2ID, will provide an opportunity for the public to get answers to questions concerning digial policy and investment in Britain's "second city".

On November 7, Richard Stallman will give the talk "Copyright vs. Community"at the Reykjavik University . The speech will start at 19:30 ( 1, Room M101).

On November 6, Richard Stallman participates in the ICT Goes International in Helsinki. He will give a talk about "Trends in programming: Free Software and practices" at 13:50. The event is organized by HAAGA-HELIA, the University of Applied Sciences and will be held at the Auditorium, Pasila campus (Ratapihantie 13).

Richard Stallman will give another speech, in the same venue, that evening at 18:00 about "How to Begin Contributing to a Free Software Project and Do a Good Job".

On November 3rd at 14.00, Matthias Kirschner will give a speech at Brandenburger Linux-Infotag 2012, about computers as general purpose machines. The talk, in German, will be held at 14.00 in the University of Potsdam, at room HS2 of the 'Institut für Informatik'.

On October 26, Richard Stallman participates in the Free/ Libre Culture Forum in Barcelona. He will attend and comment the presentation of the Positive Agenda for Copyright reform in Europe, a collaborative system. The event will take place in the Centro Cultural Ars Santa Monica (Las Ramblas, 7) at 13.00.

Besides, that evening he will be at the Sala magna of the Universidad de Economía de Barcelona giving a talk about "El Movimiento del Software Libre y GNU" and "Por una sociedad Digital Libre"

Torsten Grote will give a talk about the campaign Free Your Android at the Libre Software World Conference 2012, in Santiago de Compostela (Spain). The speech will be on October 18th at 16.30 in the Cidade da Cultura City of Culture), where the event is being held.

On October 18th, Otto Kekäläinen, FSFE coordinator Finland, will explain the current status of the adaptation of LibreOffice in Finland, at the Berlin 2012 LibreOffice Conference. The talk will explain the current problems and will point out other countries experiences relevant to take into mind for Finland's LibreOffice future development. Also, it will cover Helsinki innitiatives, like Helsinki OpenOffice pilot in 2011.

The Finnish think tank Visio organizes in Helsinki on 25th of September at 13:00-16:00 a seminar on the state of software systems in the public sector, and solve the typical quality and price issues using Free Software. On September 25 at the 22nd IFIP World Computer Congress in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Karsten Gerloff will participate in a panel discussion on patents in software. The discussion about whether "patents enable innovation in the computer software field" is organised by the European Patent Organisation.

We are in the middle of an intense battle about who will control the computers we'll use tomorrow. At the OpenMind conference in Helsinki, Finland, Karsten Gerloff will explain why the general-purpose computer is worth fighting for. The event is co-located with the Open Knowledge Festival. Karsten's talk starts at 11:30.

On September 15th the Berlin Fellowship group will held a FreeYourAndroid workshop at BeLUG's Software Freedom Day event.

The Vienna fellowship group will hold a booth in the very busy city centre of Vienna on the corner of the Mariahilfer Staße and the Museumsquartier. From 10am until 7pm we will be answering questions at our information desk and giving out leaflets and live CDs from different free operating systems. Many of them with a specially produced CD-edition identifying the FSFE fellowship as provider of the copies. We will bring notebook computers as well to show interested passers-by how well Free Software works and how good it looks.

Fellows in Manchester will meet to determine how best to voice and video chat using Free Software. Between 14.00-17.00 in Madlab Hackerspace advocates will test which programs are compatible with which, and publish a table of results for public use.

On September 9th, Erik Albers will give a FreeYourAndroid workshop at the Software Freedom Kosova 2012. The workshop is open for all attendees of the conference.

Der Fachbereich Informatik der Fachhochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg veranstaltet mit Hilfe der Fachschaft Informatik, der LUUSA und des FrOSCon e.V. 2009 zum siebten Mal eine Konferenz rund um Themen der Freien Software.

Die FSFE ist auf dem RMLL vertreten, dem jährlichen nichtkommerziellen Treffen mit Vorträgen, Workshops und Diskussionsrunden über Freie Software und ihre Anwendung. Zum ersten Mal findet das RMLL in der Schweiz statt, und zwar im Stadtviertel „Plainpalais“ in Genf.

More transparency in the heart of Europe: The European Parliament has built a software tool which lets the people working there track the development of proposals into laws. The Parliament is going to release this program, called AT4AM, as Free Software.

At an event in the European Parliament, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will discuss what Free Software means for democracy. FSFE's General Counsel Carlo Piana will talk about choosing the right license for AT4AM.

Attendance is free of charge, but registration is required in order to enter the Parliament building. The event is organised by the European Parliament Free Software User Group (EPFSUG), and hosted by MEP Marie-Christine Vergiat.

On July 4th, FSFE Fellow Heiki "Repentinus" Ojasild will host a PDF readers sprint in Tallinn, Estonia, at Akademy 2012, the KDE summit. Everyone is invited to partake and help locate, remove, and replace advertisements for proprietary software on the websites of public bodies.

The event is part of our effort to stop public bodies from restricting the users' freedom and unfairly distorting the competition in favour of certain proprietary software makers. As part of the event, participants will be introduced to finding offending sites, contacting offending sites, listing offending sites on our web site, and keeping track of responses to the memoranda to offenders.

Matthias Kirschner, Koordinator des deutschen Teams der FSFE, wird am 11. Juni 2012 einen öffentlichen Vortrag in der HTWG Hochschule Konstanz halten. Manchester Fellows will meet at Arcspace Community Centre to work on the Mailpod community hosting project, inspired by Fripost. The project aims to provide local community run Free Software based email hosting with strong privacy and security.

Martin Husovec, our current legal intern will be giving presentation at workshop V 4 paradigm shift in copyright organized by Asimov Foundation. The talk "Use of FLA outside of the Free Software Communities?" will discuss whether Fiduciary License Agreemnet can be potentially of an inspiration also for the other artistic communities than Free Software one (abstract).

The "Chemnitz Linux Days" is a conference that deals with GNU/Linux and Free Software . It is open for everyone, novizes and experts alike. As every year for Valentine's Day, the FSFE is planning an online campaign to celebrate this day as an "I love Free Software" - Day. Our online campaign aims at rising awareness to Free Software and the passionate, hard-working people behind it. You can participate in our campaign from all over the world. Show them that you appreciate their work – it could make all the difference!

This year on Valentine's Day, the FSFE organises an "I love Free Software" event at the Unperfekthaus in Essen. We would like to invite all supporters of Free Software to celebrate this day together with us. During the day, there will be workshops and talks concerning various topics about Free Software. At the 23rd session of WIPO's Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights, FSFE will work with national delegates from around the world to improve conditions for the sharing of knowledge. Negotiations will center on a possible "Broadcasting Treaty", a plan to introduce a new kind of copyright which companies can acquire merely by distributing a movie, image, text or program. On Thursday, August 11th, at 19:30, the Berlin fellows will meet at the Berlin FSFE office (Linienstrasse 141) for a discussion on various Free Software topics. Come and meet up with a new intern!

FSFE will take part at the Desktop Summit, a joint conference organised by the GNOME and KDE communities in Berlin, Germany, 6 - 12 August 2011 at the Humboldt University.

On the 8th of August, FSFE's president Karsten Gerloff will give a talk on Free desktops for Europe's public sector (10:20-10:50, Rm 3038), FSFE's co-founder Bernhard Reiter will talk about Daily Melee: paid people within Free Software initiatives - How they tick, how to keep them and the art of behaving if you are one (14:00-14:30, Rm 2002).

Die FSFE wird auf der Euskal Encounter mit einem Stand vertreten sein. Die Euskal Encounter ist eine grosse, öffentlich gefördete Lanparty mit etwa 4096 Teilnehmern. Ausserdem finden Vorträge und eine Messe statt. Helfer sind willkommen. Am Sonntag, den 24. Juli treffen sich Fellows und Freunde um 17:00 Uhr am FSFE-Stand, um eine Fellowship-Gruppe Baskenland/Kantabrien/Galizien zu gründen.

Die Hamburger FSFE Fellows starten ab Juni diesen Jahres mit einer unregelmäßigen Stammtisch-Rotation und treffen sich nicht zwangsläufig am gleichen Tag im Monat am gleichen Ort. Ab jetzt heißt es also auf der einen Seite aufgepasst und auf Ankündigungen achten, aber auch dass die Chance besteht die Fellows mal zu treffen, wenn der Mittwoch nicht gepasst hat oder der Weg zu weit war. Ein regelmäßiges Vorbeischauen auf der Wiki-Seite und das Abonnieren der Mailingliste wird damit also nützlich.

Der Treffpunkt im Juli ist abhängig vom Wetter, entweder das Cafe Sternchance auf der Schröderstiftstraße 7, oder das Roxie auf der Rentzelstraße 6. Detailliertere Informationen und gibt es wie gewohnt auf der Wiki-Seite.

FSFE will take part in many ways at the RMLL, one of the biggest Free Software events in France, from July 9th to 14th. While of course present with its famous information booth both during the week-end ("journées grand public") and during the week, FSFE also proposes some talks this year.

President Karsten Gerloff will give a talk on Centralised Internet Services and Problems of Power (13.07., 15:20), France Coordinator Hugo Roy will talk about the battle fought by Free Software for HTML5 online videos, UK coordinator Sam Tuke will speak about the FreedomBox concept and practical applications. Several other speakers have also been invited to talk about topics around the decentralisation of the Internet.

Whether at the booth, at the conferences or for a drink on evenings, we look forward to seeing you there!

On Thursday, July the 14th, at 19:30, the Berlin fellows will meet at the C-Base (Rungestrasse 20) for a discussion round on various topics. Come and debate with us!

On Thursday July 7, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will speak about Free Software to Members of the European Parliament. The presentation together with a representative of APRIL will take place at the first meeting of the Parliament's Intergroup on Free Software and new media in Strasbourg.

Matthias Kirschner, FSFE coordinator for activities in Germany, will present the successful PDFReaders campaign started last Autumn. The concept – removing advertisings for non-free software from public sector organisations' websites – will be explained in detail, as well as the keys to succeed in a similar action.

The talk will take place in "room 41-A fisl 1" on the 1st of July, at 16:00 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

FSFE will have a booth at this year's OKCon in Berlin, on the 29th and 30th of June. Many international speakers such as Richard Stallman will be present and give talks on open knowledge, open data and Free Software.

For this month's fellowship meeting, Michiel de Jong, who also recently gave us an interview, will talk about his project: "Unhosted: How free software can compete with today's hosted software" (in English). Unhosted is a highly significant Free Software project for the future of personal data as well as online applications!

At the 5th European meeting of Green local councillors in Berlin, Germany, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will hold a workshop on Free Software in the public sector. Together with a practicioner from a city that bases its administration on Free Software, Green local councillors from across Europe will discuss how they can make use of Free Software in their own towns.

On Sunday, May the 22nd, FSFE offers a robots workshop in its Berlin office, Linienstraße 141, 10115 Berlin.

Flashed with Free Software, these robots can be programmed very easily to explore the room, follow a black line on the ground, avoid obstacles… The aim being that the participants can then offer such a nice workshop in schools.

OpenTech 2011 is an informal, low cost, one-day conference on slightly different approaches to technology, transport and democracy

From Thursday, May 19th, to Saturday, May 21st, in Settala (Milan, Italy) there will be the "Brain Jumble", an event for wider distribution of Free Software in businesses and public administrations. Diego Zanga, a member of the FSFE Italian group, will attend the event in the mornings of May 19th and 20th with a talk for businesses "Benefits for small and medium-sized businesses using Free Software" and a talk for public administrations "Free Software in public administrations". The event will be held in Giuseppe Verdi 8/c, Settala (MI), from 9:00 to 15:30.

Auch dieses Jahr kann man sich in Graz wieder bei ganztägig Vorträgen und Informationsständen über GNU/Linux, Freie Software und damit zusammenhängenden Projekten informieren. Statt findet das Event an der FH Joanneum und ist ein absolutes Muß für alle, die sich für diese Themen interessieren.
Die FSFE wird sich mit einem Informationsstand präsentieren, und Peter Bubestinger hält einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Free Software and art(ists): Here be dragons!"

Auf dem diesjährigen Landesjugendkongress der Grünen Jugend Bayern wird Björn Schießle einen Workshop zum Thema Freie Software halten. Der Workshop findet am 9. April in Würzburg statt.

Die SPD organisiert am 7. April eine öffentliche Veranstaltung zum Thema Freie Software. Es gibt eine Podiumsdiskussion. Treffpunkt bei der Bundesparteizentrale, Wilhelmstraße 141 / Ecke Stresemannstraße, um 19:00.

Bernhard Reiter, einigen von euch vielleicht schon als langjaehriges und erfahrendes FSFE Mitglied bekannt, wird dort sprechen. Nico wird auch da sein und es geht um "Erhöhung der Wirtschaftlichkeit durch den Einsatz von Freier Software".

Manchester's first local Fellowship meeting takes place this Thursday at 19.00, and the first Thursday of each following month! All Fellows and non-Fellows are cordially invited to attend MadLab, who have generously agreed to host us. This initial meeting will be used to plan topics and activities for future meetings.

Talk by Sam Tuke for Document Freedom Day will be held in the Friends Meeting House in the center of Manchester at 19.00.

Document Freedom Day (DFD) is a global day for document liberation. It is a day of grassroots effort to educate the public about the importance of Open Document Formats and Open Standards in general.

Auf dem 10. "Augsburger Linux-Infotag" hat die FSFE einen Informations- und Verkaufsstand. Des Weiteren wird Björn Schießle einen Vortrag über die bevorstehenden Herausforderungen für Freie Software halten. Die Veranstaltung findet am 26. März 2011 von 9:30 bis 17:30 im Fachbereich Informatik der Hochschule Augsburg statt. Der Eintritt ist frei.

Nach dem "Linux-Infotag" in Augsburg treffen sich Fellows aus der Gegend im Restaurant Alt-Athen, wo auch der Social Event des "Linux-Infotags" stattfindet. Alle Fellows sind herzlich eingeladen. Wer mitkommen möchte, trägt sich am besten direkt im Wiki für das Social Event ein.

FSFE President Karsten Gerloff will give a talk at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany. He will speak about "Freedom, Software and Power" on March the 3rd, at 15:30. His talk will take place in Hall 2, booth F40.

Members of FSFE's British Team will attend the UK's first ODF Plugfest in Maidenhead, near London. The goal of the event is to improve interoperability between ODF implementations, and discuss new and proposed features of the ODF specification.

Auf einem Seminar (it), das von der Fakultät für Soziologie der Universität Trient, Italien, abgehalten wird, wird der Präsident der FSFE Karsten Gerloff politische Themen im Zusammenhang mit Freier Software und Offenen Standards in Europa und weltweit diskutieren. Sein Vortrag wird in Raum 9 von 16 bis 18 Uhr stattfinden. Die Veranstaltung ist öffentlich.

Diesen Monat wird das Berliner Fellowship-Treffen wieder im Newthinking Store, Tucholskystr. 48, 10117 Berlin, stattfinden. Wir werden dort ab 19:30 sein. Ali Gündüz wird dort eine Präsentation über „Freie-Software-GSM“ geben. Der Vortrag (auf Englisch) richtet sich an Zuhörer ohne jedes Vorwissen zu GSM-Protokollen. „Haben Sie sich an die Idee von Android und Meego gewöhnt? Schauen wir mal, was Sie von der Möglichkeit halten, dass Freie Software die Funktionen ausübt, für die Ihr Handy ursprünglich gemacht wurde,“ kündigt Ali Gündüz an. At a conference in Badajoz, in the Spanish region of Extremadura, public administrations from across Europe are exchanging experiences and plans regarding Free Software. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff has been invited to share recent developments in European policy concerning Free Software and Open Standards.

Im WIPO-Komitee zu Entwicklung und „Geistigem Eigentum“ werden die Mitgliedstaaten der WIPO darüber diskutieren, wie Regelungen zu Urheberrecht, Patenten und Markenzeichen dazu beitragen können, die gesellschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Entwicklung zu fördern. Der Präsident der FSFE Karsten Gerloff und die Praktikantin Maelle Costa werden daran teilnehmen, um die Sicht der FSFE in die Diskussion einzubringen. Auf der Tagesordnung stehen unter anderem auf Zusammenarbeit basierende Projekte und Patente.

Technologiestandards sind ein mächtiges Mittel, um Software-Innovation zu fördern oder zu behindern. Für Freie Software ist es von kritischer Bedeutung, dass auch patentierte Technologien, die in Standards aufgenommen werden, ohne Einschränkungen implementiert werden können. Auf einer von der Europäischen Kommission veranstalteten Konferenz in Brüssel wird der Präsident der FSFE Karsten Gerloff an einer Diskussion zu Freier Software und Standardisierung teilnehmen.

Am 18. November findet ein Fellowship-Treffen in Zürich statt. Wir treffen uns um 18:30 Uhr im Pausenraum der Spielwerkstatt Murmel, Kanonengasse 16, erster Stock (Zeughaus 5, alte Kaserne im Stadtzentrum von Zürich, die Treppe hoch, dann den Korridor folgen bis ganz zum Ende). Die Bildungs-Task-Force der FSFE wird am Mittwoch, den 17. November, ein Jabber-Treffen abhalten, um die Prioritäten für zukünftige Aktivitäten festzulegen und über die neuesten Entwicklungen im Bereich der Bildungs-Software zu diskutieren. Sie sind herzlich eingeladen, von 20 bis 21 Uhr am Jabber-Treffen der Fellowship teilzunehmen und sich an der Diskussion über die Zukunft der Aktivitäten im Bildungsbereich zu beteiligen. Was ist Ihre Meinung zu Freier Software und Bildung? Haben Sie Ideen? Einzelheiten, wie Sie am Chat teilnehmen können, finden sich im Wiki.

Wissen ist Macht – vom Mittelalter bis heute. Wer die Strukturen beherrscht, über die wir Wissen austauschen, kontrolliert unsere Kommunikation. Darüber wird Matthias Kirschner in seinen Vortrag „Freiheit, Macht, Software“ reden. Um 12:20 fängt er an, und ihr seid alle herzlich eingeladen, zu kommen. Das OpenRheinRuhr findet im Rheinischen Industriemuseum in Oberhausen statt. Der Eintritt kostet 3€ für einen Tag und 5€ für die zwei Tage.

Auf der diesjährigen South Tyrol Free Software Conference wird der Präsident der FSFE Karsten Gerloff über Freie Software und Innovation in Unternehmen sprechen. Henrik Sandklef vom schwedischen Team der FSFE wird einen Überblick über die Situation Freier Software in Schweden geben.

Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos, aber eine Registrierung ist nötig.

Die FSFE wurde als Gast des ersten Knowledge Sharing Abend der Berlin Debating Union eingeladen. Dort wird Matthias Kirschner um 19Uhr über Freie Software halten, und wird sich dann den Fragen des Publikums stellen. Im Anschluss gibt es um 20:15h eine Debatte zu einem entsprechendem Thema. Am Donnerstag, dem 11. November findet also das Berlin Fellowship Treffen ausnahmsweise in der Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, im Orbis Humboldtianus, über dem Audimax im Humboldt Hauptbegäude (Eingang Dorotheenstraße 17). Der Knowledge Sharing Abend soll Studenten aller Berliner Universitäten anlocken, kommt auch vorbei !

Die Fontys University of Applied Science in Eindhoven veranstaltet vom 6. bis 7. November 2010 die 5. Ausgabe des T-DOSE. Die FSFE ist Mitorganisator der „Free Society Conference and Nordic Summit“ (FSCONS). Die FSFE wird dort ihre eigene Vortragsreihe unter dem Titel „Teilen und Zurückerobern: Die Wiedererlangung der Kontrolle über unsere Kommunikation.“ halten. Sie wird aus fünf Vorträgen bestehen, die sich mit den Fragen der Freiheit und der Kontrolle in der alltäglichen Online-Kommunikation beschäftigen.

Am 6. November findet in der Universität Potsdam der 7. Brandenburger Linux-Infotag (BLIT) statt. Die FSFE wird dort einen Ausstellungsstand haben, auf dem über Freie Software im Allgemeinen und über die Vorteile von Freier Software in der Bildung informiert wird. Der Eintritt ist frei. Mittwoch, 03. November, das nächste Fellowship-Treffen im Rhein/Main-Gebiet wird im Hotel Sandelmühle, Frankfurt/Main um 20:00 Uhr stattfinden.

The European Commission's Diretorate General Information Society is organising a day of workshops to develop "Big Ideas" for the Commission's Digital Agenda. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will participate to explore possibilities for a free cloud.

Georg Greve, FSFE's Founder, will speak at the TEDxRheinNeckar event in the university of Mannheim, Germany. Georg's talk will deal with the "Meaning of Free Software for society". If you are interested in attending the TEDxRhienNeckar, just take some time to register (registration fee to be paid).

At the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva, the Standing Committee on the Law of Patents meets for its 15th session. Topics to be discussed include the patentability of software and the relation between patents and standards. FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff is participating in the meeting in order to help create rules, laws and practices that are favourable to Free Software.

This month again, the Berlin Fellowship meeting will be in the Newthinking Store, in the Tucholskystr. 48, 10117 Berlin. We'll be there from 19:30. Torsten Grote will do a presentation on "Centralised Internet Services and Problems of Power". This talk will illustrate the trend towards centralised services and explain the reasons for this trend. It will conclude with some solutions and strategies that can help users to remain in control of their computing and their data. Other topics for this meeting are the ongoing PDF readers campaign, and the two events to come : FSCONS and BLIT, both on the 6th of November.

Over the week-end, the FSFE web team will meet to work on FSFE's website. A new design for the FSFE will be implemented, and a slew of new improvements will be applied. For this unique gathering, we need Developers (HTML, CSS, XSLT, Perl), good English speakers/writers and translators (of all languages). The Web sprint will take place in FSFE's Berlin Office, in the Linienstr. 141, 10115 Berlin. Contributors get free snacks and refreshments. Auf der IRILL-Konferenz, die Forschung zu Freier Software zum Thema hat und in Paris in Frankreich stattfindet, werden der gegenwärtige Präsident der FSFE Karsten Gerloff und der erste Präsident und Gründer der FSFE Georg Greve im Rahmen der Eröffnungsveranstaltung Vorträge halten. Der Vortrag von Karsten hat den Titel „Enlightening! Free Software research in context“ (Aufklärung! Freie-Software-Forschung im Kontext). Georg wird über „Free Software and the playing field“ (Freie Software und die Wettbewerbsbedingungen) sprechen. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos, aber eine Registrierung ist notwendig.

At the Westminster eForum Seminar on September 23, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will deliver a keynote address on "Free Software in business and in government." More information can be found here.

Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free Software. Take this opportunity to share with your community the advantages of Free Software in business, education, the public sector and at home. Am 17. und 18. September 2010 findet das erste FrOSCamp auf dem Gelände der ETH Zürich im CHN-Gebäude, Universitätsstrasse 16, statt. Reinhard Müller hält einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Mach dich frei - wie man die Welt rettet in fünf einfachen Schritten" (auf deutsch), und die FSFE präsentiert an einem Informationsstand ihre Arbeit und das Fellowship. Der Eintritt zur gesamten Veranstaltung ist kostenlos, und ein Vorregistrierung ist nicht notwendig.

Karsten Gerloff, FSFE's President, will speak at a workshop of this year's Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Vilnius, Lithuania. The subject is "Data in the Cloud: Where do Open Standards fit in?". The workshop will take place on Thursday, September the 16th, from 14:15 to 16:15. FSFE has been involved in the IGF since its first edition in 2006, and is part of the Dynamic Coalition on Open Standards.

Karsten Gerloff, FSFE's President, will speak at the TEDxEutropolis event in Heerlen, Netherlands, organized by the TEDx program of the TED (Technology, Entertainment & Design). The Eutropolis intends to gather the brightest ideas to forge an economic and cultural centre out of border regions of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Karsten's talk will start at 11:35. If you are interested in attending the TEDxEutropolis, just take some time to register (registration fee to be paid).

The Braderie of Lille is a popular event every year in the streets of Lille (north of France). FSFE will have a booth there to introduce the general audience to Free Software. Don't hesitate to join us!

In connection with the GUADEC 2010 conference, GNU contributors are invited to attend the European GNU Hackers Meeting at the Hague in Netherlands. The special focus of the meeting will be “building decentralized GNU applications” with an emphasis on privacy and security. Attendees are requested to register.

At FISL 11 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, FSFE's President will talk about how to carry the ideas of software freedom into the world of cloud computing and software as a service. The talk starts at 18:00 local time.

The Department of Business Information Management and Logistics of the Technical University Tampere and the Agora Center of the University Jyväskylä have done a study about Free Software in Finnish schools. On 12 May 2010 at 18:00 in Demola, Väinö Linnan aukio 15, 3rd floor, Tampere, researcher Kimmo Wideroos will present the results and conclusions, and afterwards there will be an open discussion about the potential and possibilities of Free Software in schools.

FSFE is receiving this year's Theodor Heuss Medal. On Friday, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will speak on "Capitalism and Responsibility" during a colloquium organised by the Theodor Heuss Foundation. Gesine Schwan, a former candidate for the President of Germany, will open this event on "The social market economy and globalisation". The award ceremony will take place on Saturday from 10:30 to 12:15. It will be recorded by the German TV channel Phoenix. Both events are by invitation only. We have a small number of invitations left. Please contact the German team if you would like to join us. Friday's event will take place from 14:00 to 18:00 at Literaturhaus Stuttgart. The award ceremony on Saturday will take place at the Alte Reithalle Stuttgart.

Die Fellowship Gruppe Stuttgart trifft sich am 06. Mai 2010 um 20Uhr im Cafe Stella, Hauptstätter Straße 57, 70178 Stuttgart. Am 28.04.2010 findet das reguläre Fellowshiptreffen in Düsseldorf in der Gaststätte Friedrichskrone Ecke Talstraße/Kirchfeldstraße statt.
Wir werden an diesem Abend voraussichtlich nicht ein Thema, sondern wieder viele Themen diskutieren, wobei die Teilnehmer die größtmögliche Freiheit bei der Auswahl der Themen haben. Nicht auszuschließen ist aber, dass jemand überraschend einen Vortrag hält.

Beginnend um 9:00, lädt die Donau-Universität Krems Lehrer, Schüler, Eltern und alle Interessierten, sich über die Vorteile des Einsatzes Freier Software im Schulbetrieb zu informieren. Die FSFE wird sich mit einem Informationsstand präsentieren, und Peter Bubestinger hält einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Freiheit der Aus(zu)bildenden im digitalen Zeitalter? Freie Software!" (in deutscher Sprache).

Am 25. April um 19:00h wird Matthias Kirschner darlegen, was Freie Software ist, über ihre Bedeutung für die Gesellschaft sprechen und erklären, weshalb sich Politiker mit diesem Thema auseinandersetzen sollten. Die Veranstaltung wird von der Grünen Jugend Backnang organisiert. Alle Interessenten sind herzlich eingeladen, am Vortrag und der anschließenden Diskussion teilzunehmen. Veranstaltungsort ist das "Kreishaus der Jugendarbeit", Marktstraße 48, in 71522 Backnang.

Ein ganzer Tag, randvoll mit Präsentationen und Vorträgen, bietet interessierten Desktopbenutzern, Administratoren, Softwareentwicklern und Anderen an der FH Joanneum die Möglichkeit ihr Know-How über GNU/Linux und Freie Software zu erweitern. On 21 April 6pm Matthias Kirschner will give a talk at the BLUG in Berlin to talk about the importance of Free Software for our society. The speech takes place in the Lehrter Straße 53, 10557 Berlin-Mitte. Everybody interested in Free Software is invited to the speech.

Die Hamburger Fellowship-Gruppe trifft sich um 19:30h im Roxie, Rentzelstr. 6, 20146 Hamburg (in der Nähe der Universität). Näheres erfährt man bei der Hamburger Fellowship-Gruppe.

The Finnish team coordinator Otto Kekäläinen holds a presentation (in Finnish) about the Free Software Foundation Europe, which after the evening continues with informal discussion about free software.

Die Freedom Task Force, die Abteilung der FSFE für Recht und Lizenzierung, hält am 8. und 9. April 2010 den dritten europäischen Workshop zu Lizenzierung und Recht in Amsterdam in den Niederlanden ab. Diese Konferenz bietet Rechtsexperten ein Diskussionsforum zu den Themen Versorgungskettenmanagement, Einhaltungsverfahren, Lizenzverwaltung und weiteren juristischen Themengebieten, die mit dem Wachstum des Freie-Software-Markts in Europa zusammenhängen. Die Anzahl der Plätze für die Veranstaltung ist begrenzt und Nichtmitglieder des European Legal Network können nur nach Einladung teilnehmen.

Am 08.04. um 19:30 trifft sich die Berliner Fellowshipgruppe im NewthinkingStore in der Tucholskystraße 48. Lena hält einen Vortrag zum Thema: „Frauen, Gleichberechtigung und (Freie) Software.“ Gäste sind immer herzlich willkommen.

ACTA is an international agreement on copyright and patents which several developed countries are currently negotiating in secret. While no official texts have been published, numerous leaked documents indicate that the treaty would further restrict our freedom to share and re-use knowledge. The European Commission's DG TRADE is holding a stakeholders' consultation meeting to inform Europeans about the state of play of the negotiations. Die FSFE wird auf den "LinuxTagen", einer der wichtigsten Veranstaltungen zu Freier Software in Deutschland, mit einem Stand vertreten sein. Wie in den letzten Jahren werden die Eintrittskarten auch heuer wieder €5 kosten, ermäßigte Karten €3. Die Eintrittskarten sind für beide Veranstaltungstage gültig und können direkt am Eingang zu der Konferenz erstanden werden. Eine Reservierung ist weder notwendig noch möglich. Ein Vorverkauf ist ebenfalls nicht geplant. Die Veranstaltung findet im Hörsaal- und Seminar-Gebäude der Technischen Universität Chemnitz, Reichenhainer Straße 90, 09126 Chemnitz, statt.

Am 11.03.2010 um 19:30 trifft sich die Berliner Fellowshipgruppe im NewthinkingStore in der Tucholskystraße 48. Diesmal berichtet Karsten Gerloff, Präsident der FSFE, von seiner aktuellen Arbeit und beantwortet Fragen. Außerdem geht es um die Organisation des diesjährigen Document Freedom Days. Gäste bei dem Treffen sind wie immer herzlich willkommen.

Bei der diesjährigen CeBIT wird die FSFE durch zwei Vortragende repräsentiert, die neue Einsichten ermöglichen und einen Blick darauf werfen, was die Zukunft bringt. Am Mittwoch um 13:00h referiert der Deutschland-Koordinator der FSFE, Matthias Kirschner, über "8 Missverständnisse über Freie Software - oder sind es Lügen?". Am Donnerstag um 14:00h spricht der Präsident der FSFE, Karsten Gerloff, über "Die Öffnung des Markts für Freie Software: der Kampf um Interoperabilität". Beide Vorträge finden in Halle 2 statt. Eine Registrierung für die Veranstaltung ist möglich.

Vom 3.März an ruft das Göteborger FSFE-Team seine Fellowship-Gruppe mit monatlichen Treffen wieder ins Leben. Die Treffen finden im Gnutiken um 18:00 statt und sind für jedermann offen.

Der Präsident der FSFE, Karsten Gerloff, spricht im Zentrum für Aus- und Weiterbildung Eupen (ZAWM) über "Freie Software: 10 Mythen und die Wahrheit". Die Rede wird auf deutsch gehalten. Anschließend gibt es genügend Zeit für Fragen und eine Diskussion. Die Veranstaltung ist öffentlich, um Anmeldung unter schneider AT zawm.be wird gebeten.

Während des gesamten Monats Februar können die Fellows der FSFE ihren zweiten Vertreter in die Generalversammlung der FSFE wählen. Der/die Gewählte wird zwei Jahre lang Teil der Generalversammlung sein.

Am 11.02.2010 um 19:30 trifft sich die Berliner Fellowshipgruppe im NewthinkingStore in der Tucholskystraße 48. Diesmal redet Ali Gündüz über vollständig freie GNU/Linux Distributionen. Außerdem geht es um die FOSDEM 2010 und die Organisation des DFD. Gäste sind wie immer herzlich willkommen.

Die Fellowship Gruppe Stuttgart trifft sich am 11. Februar 2010 um 20Uhr in Sophies Brauhaus, Marienstraße 28. Thomas Jensch wird über den aktuellen Stand des Edu-Team berichten. Des Weiteren soll der Neustart eines regelmäßigen Fellowship-Treffen in Stuttgart besprochen werden.

Die FSFE wird mit einem Stand auf der FOSDEM, der größten Veranstaltung, die von der Gemeinschaft für die Gemeinschaft organisiert wird, vertreten sein. Das Ziel dieses Treffens ist es, den europäischen Entwicklern Freier Software einen Ort zu geben, um sich treffen. Eine Registrierung ist nicht notwendig. Die Veranstaltung findet am ULB Campus Solbosh, 50 Avenue Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1050 Brüssel, statt.

Auf der diesjährigen Stuttgart Open Fair wird Björn Schießle im Rahmen des Workshops "Gemeingüter zwischen traditionellem Wissen und neuartigen Produktionsweisen Eine neue Perspektive für die Anti-Privatisierungsbewegungen?" einen Vortrag mit dem Thema "Freie Software - Mehr als nur ein Entwicklungsmodell" halten. Der Workshop finde am Samstag, den 30. Januar von 11-13 Uhr im Forum 3, Gymnasiumstr. 21 in Stuttgart statt.

Für Freie Software hängt viel davon ab, wie Standardisierungsgremien mit patentierten Technologien umgehen. Das WIPO Standing Committee on the Law of Patents ist das höchste Gremium, das sich mit dieser Frage auseinandersetzt. Karsten Gerloff und Hugo Roy werden für die FSFE an dem Treffen teilnehmen, um die Interessen Freier Software voranzutreiben.

With the growing interest attached to Free Software law issues, the second edition of the EOLE will take place in Brussels, in the prestigious confines of the European Parliament. Among other specialists, Adriaan de Groot, FTF Coordinator, will hold a conference entitled "Use the Source -- but what is it?" The event is accessible on registration only.

Am 6.12. findet das Gründungstreffen der Leipziger Fellowship-Gruppe der FSFE statt. Zeit und Ort: Sonntag (6.12.), 16:00 Uhr im sublab (Karl-Heine-Straße 93, Westwerk) (http://sublab.org) Nach einer kurzen Vorstellung der Free Software Foundation Europe e.V. und einem Einblick in die aktuellen Themen wollen wir v.a. gemeinsam über Freie Software in Politik und Gesellschaft nachdenken und diskutieren. Wie kann Freie Software ins Gespräch gebracht werden? Welche konkreten Aktionen bieten sich an? In welcher Form können die Fellowship-Treffen stattfinden? Für Mate ist gesorgt - bis Sonntag!

FSFE Präsident Karsten Gerloff hält am 2. Dezember eine Rede zum Thema "Willkommen im Mainstream: Freie Software in Europa". Die Weltkonferenz für Freie Software wird von den spanischen Regionalverwaltungen von Extremadura und Andalusien gemeinsam organisiert. Die Veranstaltung ist öffentlich.

Das Interoperabilitätsprojekt der Europäischen Kommission für eGovernment Dienste organisiert einen Informationstag zur europäischen Interoperabilitätsstrategie. Der FSFE Präsident Karsten Gerloff nimmt an den Diskussionen teil um sicherzustellen, dass Vertreter Freier Software und Offener Standards gehört werden.

Am 25.11.2009 findet ab 19:30 Uhr in Düsseldorf das regelmäßige Fellowshiptreffen statt. Der Saal der "Friedrichskrone" Talstraße Ecke Kirchfeldstraße ist gebucht, so dass alle kommen können. Da man die Saaltüren schließen kann und wir alle rücksichtsvolle Menschen sind, werden sich auch Nichtraucher bei uns wohlfühlen.

Thema ist "Rückblick und Ausblick"; wir wollen unsere diesjährigen Aktivitäten Revue passieren lassen, um voll Tatendrang in neue Jahr zu schreiten.

Erste Planungen für 2010 stehen also auch auf der Agenda.

FSFE will be present with a booth at this years Brandenburger Linux Info Tag (BLIT). The Fellowship Group Berlin will man a booth to inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software. Also T-shirts and books about Free Software will be sold. The event starts at 10 am and takes place at the University Campus Griebnitzsee in Potsdam. Admission is free as in free beer.

Dank der umfassenden Unterstützung seitens der FSFE und anderer Organisationen befindet sich die WIPO-Agenda nun auf dem Weg zur Umsetzung. Die diesjährige FSCONS (Free Society Conference and Nordic Summit) findet vom 13. bis zum 15. November statt und wird von Fellows der FSFE mitorganisiert. Die FSCONS ist keine einfache Konferenz, sondern vielmehr ein Treffpunkt für gesellschaftlichen Wandel. Dabei liegt der Schwerpunkt auf Freier Software und der Frage, wie auf ihren Prinzipien eine freie Gesellschaft aufgebaut werden kann. Die OpenRheinRuhr 2009 in Bottrop ist die größte Freie Software betreffende Austellung im deutschen Ruhrgebiet. Einige unserer deutschen Fellows helfen, diese Veranstaltung zu organisieren oder präsentieren Freie-Software-Projekte, an denen sie arbeiten. Aus diesem Grund wird die FSFE nicht die Gelegenheit verpassen, zu dieser Ausstellung mit einem Stand beizutragen. Am 7. und 8. November werden wir der Öffentlichkeit wieder die Idee Freier Software und verwandte Themen näher bringen. Diesmal beabsichtigen wir, die Grenze zwischen Informationstechnologie und Kunst zu überschreiten, indem wir ein Diskussionsforum zur Verfügung stellen, in dem die Themen "Software als kulturelle Technik" und "Programmieren als Kunst" behandelt werden. Zusätzlich zu unserem Stand wird es am 7.11.2009 auch einen Social Event für Fellows geben. Unlike proprietary software, the Free Software requirements are not about remuneration, but about maintaining the Freedom of users of the software to use, study, modify and distribute. That places some interesting requirements on manufacturers of devices that use this software.

Am 10. Oktober 2009 ist Torsten Grote bei einer Veranstaltung der AG Digitale Demokratie der Linkspartei eingeladen. Die Arbeitsgruppe beschäftigt sich mit Politik der Informationsgesesellschaft. The Library of Alexandria, Egypt, is holding a three-day workshop to introduce judges, lawyers, and researchers from Egypt and the Arab world to new tools for the dissemination of knowledge. With representatives of Egypt's supreme court in attendance, FSFE's President Karsten Gerloff will be leading two sessions in the workshop, one on the history and basic concepts of Free Software, and the other on Free Software licensing.

From September 18-19 Matthias Kirschner will be in Leipzig to participate at the Software Freedom Day. The celebration starts on Friday at 6 pm in the sublab, Karl-Heine-Straße 93 04229 Leipzig. There will be cake and everything else you need to celebrate Free Software. On Saturday 2 pm Matthias will give a talk about Free Software and the Software Freedom Day at the street festival. This speech will also take place in the Karl-Heine-Straße 93. Afterwards there will be a small FSFE booth, to answer questions around Free Software. Everybody is invited to join.

Der sogenannte "Braderie de Lille" (Lille's Flohmarkt) ist eine große Freiluftveranstaltung die seit dem 12. Jahrhundert jedes Jahr am ersten Septemberwochenende stattfindet. chtinux, eine regionale Linux-User-Group, hat dem Fellowship der FSFE wie letztes Jahr eine Teilnahme vorgeschlagen. Die FSFE und speziell das Fellowship haben hier die Möglichkeit eine große Öffentlichkeit zu erreichen, da unzählige Menschen aus aller Welt die "Braderie de Lille" besuchen. Kommt und besucht das wunderschöne Lille, genießt die auf dem Flohmarkt dargebotene kulinarische Vielfalt - zum Beispiel die Muscheln! Kommt um das Fellowship zu unterstützen! As part of the OpenRuhr initiative the "Uploadparty" takes place on September 5. The goal of the monthly uploadparties is to enlarge free culture in the Ruhr area. At this event everybody can bring his own paper pictures from the area, scan them, and make them available under the Creative Commons By license. Matthias Kirschner is participating at the event which takes place at 6pm in the Unperfekthaus, Friedrich-Ebert-Str. 18, 45127 Essen.

Vor einem halben Jahr haben wir uns mit einigen Leuten von KDE in Stuttgart getroffen, um zusammen mit euch die Veröffentlichung von KDE 4.2 zu feiern. The 10th RMLL, Rencontre Mondial de Logiciel Libre (LSM, Libre Software Meeting) is taking place at Nantes. Rainer Kersten will organise a FSFE booth there.

RMLL is the most important Free Software event at France. This year, GNU/Linux User Group Nantes is expecting some 5000 visitors at the University of Nantes.

Nach längerer Planung ist es nun so weit: Die steirische Fellowship-Gruppe hält das erste der in Zukunft hoffentlich regelmäßig stattfindenden Treffen ab. Am 11.06. um 19:30 trifft sich die Berliner Fellowshipgruppe im NewthinkingStore in der Tucholskystraße 48.

Sabine Stengel von der Berliner Firma cartogis wird einen Vortrag zum Thema OpenStreetMap halten. Danach werden die Vorbereitungen für den Linuxtag und die Aktionen zur Bundestagswahl getroffen.

Während der eLiberatica, einer der größten Veranstaltungen dieser Art in Südosteuropa, werden auch dieses Jahr wieder die Vorteile der Entwicklung und des Einsatzes Freier Software diskutiert und demonstriert. Der Präsident der FSFE, Georg Greve, hält einen Vortrag über die Herausforderungen des etablierten Standardisierungssystems, der Rolle von Patenten und den Optionen bei rechtlichen Fragestellungen.

Am 8. Mai treffen sich die Zürcher Fellows. Es tut sich einiges in Zürich und der Schweiz - wir wollen die Aktivitäten für dieses Jahr besprechen. Alle wichtigen Informationen gibt es wie gewohnt im wiki.

Am Donnerstag, den 7. Mai wird Bernhard Reiter, Deutschland-Koordinator der FSFE, einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Professionelle Freie Software in Wirtschaft und Politik" an der Universität Stuttgart (Campus Vaihingen) im Rahmen der Lehrveranstaltung "Free/Libre and Open Source Software Engineering" halten. Inhalt des Vortrags wird Freie Software im allgemeinen, Lizenzkategorien, Freie Software und Politik, Softwarepatente, Offene Standards und mehr sein. Der Vortrag beginnt um 11:30Uhr und findet im Hörsaal V55.01 statt.

Am Mittwoch, den 6. Mai findet das nächste Fellowship-Treffen in Stuttgart statt. Diesmal wird auch Bernhard Reiter, Deutschland-Koordinator der FSFE, anwesend sein. Wir treffen uns wie immer im Unithekle in Stuttgart/Vaihingen. Die genaue Uhrzeit wird bald im Wiki bekannt gegeben, hier findet man auch weitere Information zu dem Treffen.

In der Region von Caldas da Rainha (Portugal) findet dieses Jahr erstmalig ein Freier Software Tag statt. Georg Greve, Präsident der FSFE, wird dabei einen Vortrag über Grundlagen und Strategien beim Einsatz freier Software im geschäftlichen Umfeld halten. Das TILT 2009 konzentriert sich vor allem auf Projekte und Lösungen 'made in Portugal', will aber auch junge Leute für die Möglichkeiten Freier Software begeistern.

Der Event an der Kunstuniversität Linz, bietet Workshops, Hacklabs, Präsentationen und Performances im Feld digitaler Kunst- und Kulturproduktion an. Die FSFE wird sich mit einem Informationsstand präsentieren, wo jede(r) herzlich eingeladen ist, sich bei einer gemütlichen Tasse Kaffee über Freie Software zu unterhalten.

Ein ganzer Tag, randvoll mit Präsentationen und Vorträgen, bietet interessierten Desktopbenutzern, Administratoren, Softwareentwicklern und Anderen an der FH Joanneum die Möglichkeit ihr Know-How über GNU/Linux und Freie Software zu erweitern. Die FSFE wird sich mit einem Informationsstand präsentieren, und Peter Bubestinger hält einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Sicher in die Zukunft mit Freier Software".

The second European Licensing and Legal Workshop organised by the Freedom Task Force of the FSFE will be held at the Hotel Okura on the 23rd and the 24th of April 2009 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This conference will provide a forum for discussions on supply chain management, compliance procedures, licence management, community interaction, and other legal issues related to the growth of the European Free Software market. 3 Tage lang wird das Wiener Rathaus die diesjährigen Linuxwochen, mit vielen interessanten Vorträgen, Messeständen und Workshops, zu Gast haben. Die FSFE wird sich mit einem Informationsstand präsentieren, und Peter Bubestinger hält einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Sicher in die Zukunft mit Freier Software". Am 15. April sind Fellows und Interessierte dazu eingeladen, einem offenen Treffen zur Planung und zur Diskussion der FSCONS 2009 beizuwohnen. Die Veranstaltung beginnt um 19:00h im Delirium Café, Kronhusgatan 28.

FSCONS, die jährliche Konferenz über Freie Software und Freie Kultur, findet vom 13. - 15. November in Göteborg statt und wird dieses Jahr von dem Fellowship mitorganisiert.

Beginnend um 8:45, lädt die Donau-Universität Krems Lehrer, Schüler, Eltern und alle Interessierten, sich über die Vorteile des Einsatzes Freier Software im Schulbetrieb zu informieren. Die FSFE wird sich mit einem Informationsstand präsentieren, und Peter Bubestinger hält einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Freiheit der Bildung durch Freie Software" (in deutscher Sprache).

Auf dem 8. Augsburger Linux-Infotag hat die FSFE einen Informations- und Verkaufsstand. Die Veranstaltung findet am 28. März 2009 von 9:30 bis 17:30 im Fachbereich Informatik der Hochschule Augsburg statt. Der Eintritt ist frei.
Reinhard Müller hält einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Die 5 größten Irrtümer über Freie Software (oder sind es Lügen?)". Der Vortrag ist in deutscher Sprache und richtet sich an alle, die sich für Freie Software interessieren.

Vom 25. bis 28 März findet in der Stadtbücherei in Stuttgart das "Frühjahrsfestival zum Datenschutz" statt. Am Samstag den 28. März wird Björn Schießle im Rahmen dieser Veranstaltung einen Vortrag zum Thema Datenschutz und Freie Software halten. Dabei soll es, neben einer allgemeinen Einführung in Freier Software, um die Möglichkeiten gehen, die Freie Software für den Datenschutz bietet.

Nach dem LinuxInfotag in Augsburg treffen sich Fellows aus der Gegend im Restaurant Alt-Athen, wo auch der Social Event des LinuxInfotags stattfindet.

Am Mittwoch, den 25. März, ist weltweit der Tag der Freien Dokumente. Der Tag soll offene Dokumentenstandards durch lokale Veranstaltungen auf der ganzen Welt bekannter machen. Document Freedom Day (DFD) ist eine Basisbewegung zur Förderung und Bekanntmachung Offener Standards mit über 200 Gruppen auf der ganzen Welt.

Österreichs diesjährige Linuxwochen starten an der Universität in Klagenfurt. Es wird reichlich interessante Vorträge, sowie Messestände geben, inklusive der FSFE. Peter Bubestinger hält einen Vortrag zum Thema "Sicher in die Zukunft mit Freier Software". Der Vortrag ist in deutscher Sprache und richtet sich an alle, die sich für Freie Software interessieren.

Wie üblich werden wir in Chemnitz mit einem Stand teilnehmen, der von Isabel Drost, Uwe Zemisch und Rainer Kersten bemannt wird. Neben Informationen über unsere Arbeit werden wir auch Fanartikel anbieten.

Am 12. März werden Torsten Werner und Michael Schinagl - Beteiligte des Standardisierungsprozess des proprietären Standards Microsoft OOXML - beim Fellowship-Treffen von ihren Erfahrungen bei dem Prozess berichten. Die Berliner Fellowship Gruppe lädt alle Interessierten dazu ein. Beginn ist 19:30 Uhr im Newthinkingstore, Tucholskystr. 48, Berlin. Im Anschluss werden weitere Aktionen für dieses Jahr diskutiert.

FSFE attends FOSDEM, a European Free Software developer conference organized by volunteers wich takes place from 7th - 8th of February in Brussels (Belgium).

The event promotes the widespread use of Free Software, to provide Free Software developers and communities a place to meet, to get in touch with other projects, and to promote the development and the benefits of Free Software solutions.

The FSFE will attend the event with a booth where visitors will be informed about recent activities (especially of FTF), Free Software itself and the Fellowship of the FSFE. As usual, the FSFE's merchandising articles will be sold as well.

Am Freitag, den 30. Januar wird in Stuttgart ein Fellowship-Treffen und eine KDE 4.2 Release-Party als gemeinsame Veranstaltung zwischen KDE und dem Fellowship der FSFE stattfinden. Zusammen werden wir in lockerer Atmosphäre und bei interessanten Gesprächen die Veröffentlichung der neuen Version von KDE feiern. Am Mittwoch, dem 28. Jänner, wird es in Zürich in der Schweiz eine Veranstaltung geben, um die Veröffentlichung von KDE 4.2 zu feiern. Die Veranstaltung findet im Auditorium Maximum der ETH Zürich statt und beginnt um 17:30 Uhr. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos. The course is intended for project managers, developers and technicians who wish to become more knowledgeable regarding code distribution options.

On Saturday, 15th November at 14:00 h there will be a Fellowship meeting at the TIS Innovation Park of Bolzano. The meeting is open to Fellows and all persons interested in FSFE's work in Italy and the projects of the Fellowship. The meeting has two parts. First Patrick Ohnewein, coordinator of the Italian FSFE group, will talk about the activities of the FSFE and the Fellowship in Italy. In the second part the Fellows will be invited to make proposals for and discuss about future initiatives to promote and help Free Software.

The FSFE will be attending the NLUUG Autumn Conference on Thursday 6th November. This year's theme is 'mobility'. Feel free to come to our booth and ask about Free Software! Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will also deliver talk entitled 'The strategic implementation of free software in business' at the CELF Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2008 at the same location on the following day, Friday 7th November. The successful implementation of Free Software requires an understanding of the best policy and processes applicable to its context. Shane will discuss how FSFE's legal project and its European Legal Network have engaged with this issue by producing generic market knowledge for supply and purchasing contracts, work flow documents and deployment methodology. The location for both conferences is Hotel en Congrescentrum De Reehorst, Ede, Netherlands.

FSFE will be present with a booth at this years Brandenburger Linux Info Tag (BLIT). The Fellowship Group Berlin will man a booth to inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software. Also T-shirts and books about Free Software will be sold. The event starts at 10 am and takes place at the University Campus Griebnitzsee in Potsdam. Admission is free as in free beer.

Am 28.Oktober wird um 19 Uhr bei Christof Raber, Weltehof, Welte 1, 88250 Weingarten ein Fellowship-Treffen stattfinden. Eingeladen sind alle Fellows und alle Freie Software interessierte. Das Treffen bietet eine gute Gelegenheit sich untereinander kennen zu lernen und sich über alle Themen der FSFE und der Freien Software Welt auszutauschen.

For 2008, FSCONS is a collaboration of FSFE, Creative Commons, and Wikimedia Sweden. There will be three tracks (Free Culture, Free Software, Free Content), each lead by one of the main organisers. Topics will range from modern kernel design over citizen journalism all the way across to licensing in the 21st century.

Vom 21. Oktober bis zum 24. Oktober findet in München die SYSTEMS statt. Die SYSTEMS ist eine professionelle Business-to-Business-Messe für den ITK-Markt und spricht hauptsächlich kaufmännische wie auch technische Entscheider in Unternehmen und der öffentlichen Hand an.

There will be a Fellowship meeting at the FSFE Zurich office from 19:00 until 20:30 on Friday the 10th of October. Some free (as in beer) beer will be provided and all Fellows nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, to discuss ways of spreading the word about Free Software in Switzerland, and to generally have a good time. A Belgian Fellowship meeting will take place on Thursday August 7th in Brussels. We will meet at 20:00 in Café Walvis, 209 rue Antoine Dansaert, Brussels. It's an informal meeting, like the last meeting, so we'll mostly chat about whatever Free Software topics the attendees are interested in. We'll also continue the discussion of how to launch quarterly meetings, and Ciaran O'Riordan will give an update on OpenStreetMap. This meeting can be discussed on FSFE's Benelux mailinglist.

The Fellowship Group in Berlin will meet on the 10th October at 19:30. We will evaluate past actions like 25 years GNU and Software Freedom Day. For the future we will plan our attendance at the BLIT and talk about the pdfreaders campaign. The Location is as usual the New Thinking Store, Tucholsky Strasse.

On Saturday 20. September starting at 14:00 FFII and FSFE's Fellowship group from Berlin will have barbecue and an information booth. At the booth we will explain what Free Software is and why it is important for society. This event should give beginners a chance to get in contact with Free Software, GNU/Linux and the involved groups. Please bring your own dishes and drinks to the Mauerpark in the opposite of Gleimstr. 60.

Ab 20 Uhr feiern die Wiener Fellows den alljährlichen "Software Freedom Day" im Pint Pub in Wien. Höhepunkt der Feierlichkeiten sind die Auftritte der beiden Bands: "Club Valat" und "Klaus (Fadin' to Whiteout)". Die Veranstaltung richtet sich natürlich nicht nur an Computerfreaks.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a speech entitled 'Free Software licenses and other questions' at OSiM World at Berlin on the 17th of September. This talk will examine question of ownership, the goal of owning creative work, benefits to consumers and the community and the relationship between ownership and Free Software licences.

Jahrhundert jedes Jahr am ersten Septemberwochenende stattfindet. chtinux, eine regionale Linux-User-Group, hat dem Fellowship der FSFE eine Teilnahme vorgeschlagen. Die Wiener Fellows der Free Software Foundation Europe laden im Rahmen eines q/talk special zu einem Vortrag von Shane Martin Coughlan über "The Professionalisation of Free Software. At 18:30 on 30 August 2008, Duesseldorf Fellowship will meet in Gasttaette "Suedstern", Bilker Allee 66, 40219 Duesseldorf (5 min vom S-Bahnhof Bilk). Shane M. A lunch for Fellows of FSFE and Free Software friends in Barcelona from 14:00 until 16:00 with FSFE's Georg Greve, Jonas Öberg and Shane Coughlan. The meeting will be for informal and friendly discussions about FSFE, the Fellowship, the work of the Freedom Task Force, and everything else that you want to contribute to the discussion. Shane will talk about the types of licence that provide and protect freedoms of use, study, sharing and improvement in both technology and educational text. He will review the main challenges that platforms like SELF may encounter from the legal point of view and what kind of mechanisms help support reliable legal infrastructure. He will also discuss the work of FSFE's Freedom Task Force in providing education and support services relating to legal support for Free Software in Europe.

SELF has contributed on various levels to freedom in software and education. The work of the SELF Legal Experts Group (LEG) has helped to evolve a better understanding of Open Standards and provided a reference line for free educational materials. The coordinator of the SELF LEG, FSFE president Georg Greve, will provide an insight on how SELF has helped advance the state of the art, and how the work done in the SELF consortium will provide lasting benefit to the Free Software community.

This year's General Assembly of FSFE takes place in Zurich, and as usual, there will be a social event where the members of the General Assembly meet Fellows and other local Free Software supporters.
Around 18:20 the crowd will leave from the FSFE office at Sumatrastrasse 25 and walk through the old town in direction to Bellview.
At 19:00 we will catch a ferry from Zurich Burkiplatz.
At 19:47 the ferry will arrive in Erlenbach where -- due to the weather conditions -- we will continue the evening with a nice dinner at the Restaurant Malabar Garden in Kuesnacht where we expect to be until at least 23:00.

As in the last years FSFE will be present with a booth (hall 7.2b, booth 122) at LinuxTag 2008. It takes place at Berlin's Expo Center under the Funkturm. FSFE will inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software, like the Freedom Task Force, software patents, the SELF project, GPLv3, our work in the United Nations, or the Fellowship of FSFE. Also it is planned to sell T-shirts from FSFE and books about Free Software.

The second eLiberatica takes place on 30 and 31 May 2008 in the World Trade Center Bucharest, Romania.
Following the huge public success the first edition of eLiberatica gained in 2007, the second edition will continue in the same tradition: to gather community and business leaders around the world to talk about the hottest Open and Free Technologies topics.
eLiberatica has its unique spirit and identity; you will learn and discover new things, meet international IT personalities, business people, high-tech professionals, you will make new friends, new partners, celebrate and truly enjoy a live event.
eLiberatica 2008 is intended to focus on:

• Business adoption - how to make/save money and gain profit using Open and Free Technologies
• Government, administration and public schools - the importance of Open and Free Technologies; Professional growth participating in the Free Software community
• Break the code - tips and tricks, things you will not find in IT books.

On Saturday 31th May 14-15 pm, Matthias Kirschner will give a speech at Linuxtag in Berlin. The talk is about the importance of the four freedoms to use, study, share and improve software and their influence in politics and economy. Target audience are beginners, or people who want to get some ideas how to explain this topic to beginners. The speech takes place at the BusinessForum (EG) and will be held in German.

FSFE's Freedom Task Force will host the first European Licensing and Legal Workshop for Free Software on Friday the 11th of April in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The venue for this meeting is the InterContinental Amstel Hotel. The event is targeted towards large projects and medium to large enterprises wishing to discuss their existing licence compliance processes. Parties attending are expected to contribute to issues ranging from process development through to optimising purchasing contract language for the benefit of the European Free Software community. This workshop has limited space available and therefore attendance is by invitation only. Projects and companies interested in attending this event should contact the FTF at ftf at fsfeurope.org.

On the 2nd of April FSFE and its Freedom Task Force (FTF) will give a course on the Strategic implementation of Free Software in Business in collaboration with the Internet Academy. The course will take place in Stockholm, Sweden. Those wishing to come should register their interest beforehand through the FTF contact form.

Am Freitag, den 29. März wird das erste Augsburger Fellowship-Treffen stattfinden.
Dazu werden wir uns im Anschluss des Augsburger GNU/Linux Tag im Thing, Vorderer Lech 45, 86150 Augsburg treffen. Ich gehe davon aus, dass wir dort spätestens gegen 18:30 Uhr anzutreffen sein werden.
Sollte man sich in Augsburg nicht auskennen oder sowieso auf dem GNU/Linux Tag sein, dann kann man sich auch gegen Ende der Veranstaltung mit uns am Stand der FSFE treffen. Wir werden dann gemeinsam zu Fellowship-Treffen gehen.

The speech will cover topics ranging from the creation of GPLv3 and its place in licensing through to examining the place of GPLv3 in tomorrow's market.

FSFE attends FOSDEM, a European Free Software developer conference organized by volunteers wich takes place from 23rd - 24th of February in Brussels (Belgium).
The event promotes the widespread use of Free Software, to provide Free Software developers and communities a place to meet, to get in touch with other projects, and to promote the development and the benefits of Free Software solutions.
The FSFE will attend the event with a booth where visitors will be informed about recent activities, Free Software itself and the Fellowship of the FSFE. As usual, the FSFE's famous T-Shirts will be sold as well.

Das SELF Projekt, zu dessen Mitgliedern die FSFE zählt, organisiert zusammen mit der Internet Gesellschaft Bulgarien, dem Französischen Kulturinstitut und Linux Für Bulgarier eine internationale Konferenz über Wissenschaft, Bildung und Lernen in Freiheit. Die Konferenz findet am 10. Februar im Französischen Kulturinstitut in Sofia, Dykon Ignatij Str. 2, Bulgarien statt.

Jonas Öberg, vice president of the FSFE, will give a talk entitled "How to do procurement of Free Software: the Swedish Example" during an event in Sofia, Bulgaria, on municipalities use of ICT. The event takes place at the Sheraton hotel on the 7th of february.

Shane Coughlan, Koordinator der Freedom Task Force der FSFE, wird an der Digicomp Academy in Zürich, Schweiz einen zweitägigen Kurs mit dem Thema 'Freie-Software-Lizenzen und andere Fragen' abhalten. Der Kurs richtet sich an Projektmanager, Entwickler und Techniker, die ihr Wissen über die verschiedenen Möglichkeiten der Code-Distribution erweitern möchten.

Die FSFE organisiert die Free Software Conference Scandinavia (FSCONS), die am 7. und 8. Dezember 2007 in Göteborg, Schweden, stattfindet. Es ist die erste Veranstaltung dieser Art in der Region, angeregt durch die größer werdende Bewegung um Freie Software.

Am 4. Dezember organisiert die Free Software Foundation Europe einen Workshop als Teil des STACS-Projekts. Der Workshop wird Wissenschaftler mit der Zivilgesellschaft zusammenbringen, um die Gründung neuer gemeinsamer Forschungsprojekte in diesem Gebiet zu unterstützen.

Das nächste Treffen der Fellowship-Gruppe Düsseldorf findet am 28. November um 19:30 im Pub "Südstern" statt (Bilker Allee 66, Düsseldorf). Shane Coughlan, der Koordinator der Freedom Task Force, wird über Freie Software Lizenzierung, Geschäftsprozesse und wie die Freie Softwarebewegung sich fest in der Informations- und Computertechnologie etabliert hat sprechen. Werner Koch wird von der Podiumsdiskussion "Wie viel Sicherheit verträgt die Freiheit?" im Nordrhein-westfälischen Landtag berichten.

Shane Coughlan, FSFE's Freedom Task Force Koordinator, wird am 26. November in Nijmegen sein. Wir planen ein Fellowship Treffen an diesem Abend um 18 Uhr im Cafe Jos.
Shane Coughlan wird über die Arbeit der Freedem Task Force sprechen und aktuelle rechtliche Themen im Bereich Freier Software diskutieren.
Rainer Kersten, ein Fellow aus Düsseldorf, wird über die Erfahrungen der Fellowshipgruppe Rheinland sprechen.

A number of Free Software related events will happen around the Internet Governance Forum in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
On 11 November, a discussion oriented conference with the title "Digital Inclusion: Accelerating Global Participation and Access through Open ICT Standards" takes place from 8:30 to 17:30.
The Dynamic Coalition on Open Standards sponsors an Open Workshop titled "The Intersection of Open ICT Standards, Development, and Public Policy" on 12 November from 15:30 to 17:00, and a Best Practice Workshop on "Open ICT Standards for Greater Citizen Access: Best Practices in Government Policy and Procurement Practices" on 13 November from 16:30 to 18:00.
All these events take place in the Windsor Barra Hotel.

Die FSFE wird auf der Come2Linux in Essen am 10. und 11. November 2007 einen Stand organisieren. Michael Kesper vom deutschen Team und Dr. Michael Stehmann (Anwalt im Netzwerk der FTF) werden fuer Fragen und Diskussionen zur Verfuegung stehen. Ausserdem werden T-Shirts zum Verkauf angeboten.

On the 8th of November, the FSFE and its Freedom Task Force (FTF), in collaboration with the Internet Academy in Sweden, will give a course on Strategic implementation of Free Software in businesses. The course will take place in Stockholm, Sweden and given predominantly in Swedish.

The FSFE will participate with a booth on Internetdagarna in Stockholm, Sweden, between the 5th and 6th of November. FSFE will inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software, like the Freedom Task Force, software patents, the SELF project, GPLv3, or the Fellowship of FSFE.

Am dritten November wird Shane Coughlan, von der FSFE, auf der elce2007 einen Vortrag über die mit Freier Software verbunden Wirtschaftsvorteile halten und die Lizenzen beschreiben, die diese Freiheiten ermöglichen. Er wird Verfahren diskutieren, welche es den Unternehmen ermöglichen den Gewinn zu maximieren und die Haftung für die Verwendung Freier Software zu minimieren. Außerdem wird er einen Überblick geben, wie Freie Software und Offene Standards zusammenarbeiten, um einen konkurrenzfähigen Markt zu garantieren.

On the 2nd of November, the FSFE and M6-IT are organising Free Software as a Social Innovation in London. This day long event will inform participants about Free Software and demonstrate its use in civil society organisations.

Shane Coughlan will deliver two talks at LinuxWorld NL. The first will take place on the 31st of October and discribe the work of Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) and some of our current projects. Shane will also provide an overview of Free Software software licences, practical compliance issues, the importance of truly Open Standards and and the work of FSFE's Freedom Task Force.

FSFE president Georg Greve and vice-president Jonas Öberg will participate in the 5th annual OpenFest in Sofia, Bulgaria, to talk about the FSFE and the SELF project.

Ciaran O'Riordan wird Freie Software Lizenzen und Stolpersteine wie z.B. Inkompatibilität erklären und berichten, was im Zuge des GPLv3 Entwurfs über die Erstellung der bestmöglichen Lizenz gelernt wurde.

Ciaran O'Riordan wird auf dieser Veranstaltung den Eröffnungsvortrag halten, in dem er die Geschichte der GNU GPL erzählt und den Grund für ihre Verbreitung und ihren Erfolg beim Schutz essentieller Freiheit darlegen.

Am 18. Oktober, von 14:00 bis 15:00 Uhr, wird Matthias Kirschner, Deutschlands stellvertretender Koordinator der FSFE, an einer Podiumsdiskussion in der Sustainable-IT-Konferenz teilnehmen. Das Thema der Diskussion ist "IT Nachhaltigkeit - international. Wie kann Software zum Schutz der Ressourcen und zur gerechten Verbreitung von Wissen beitragen". Stattfinden wird diese Diskussion in der Kalkscheune, Johannisstraße 2 in Berlin. Die Anmeldung auf der Webseite ist erforderlich. Der Eintrittspreis beträgt 25 EUR, reduziert 15 EUR.

Am 12. und 13.Oktober veranstaltet die Universität Lissabon das "I Forum de Software Livre". Dort werden sowohl Akademiker als auch Geschäftsleute ihre Erfahrungen im Bezug auf Feie Software als starke und zuverlässige technologische Alternative, die für kleine, mittelgroße und große Unternehmen geeignet ist, austauschen. Georg Greve wird auf dieser Veranstaltung für die Vorzüge Freier Software und ihrer Angepasstheit an moderne technische Ansprüche werben.

Am Mittwoch, dem 26. September 2007 um 19:30 hält Dr. Michael Stehmann einen Vortrag mit den folgenden Themen:

• Wozu Lizenzen?
• Kriterien für Freie-Software-Lizenzen (was ist Freie Software?)
• Welche Lizenzen gibt es?

Die Veranstaltung findet in der Gaststätte "Mi Dang", Fürstenwall 120, 40217 Düsseldorf statt und wurde von der lokalen Fellowship-Gruppe organisiert. Nach dem Vortrag gibt es Gelegenheit zur Diskussion. Der Eintritt ist frei, Spenden werden dankend angenommen.

Am 25. September spricht der Vizepräsident der FSFE Jonas Öberg über die GNU General Public License Version 3 und stellt sie auf einem Treffen der Schwedischen Computer Vereinigung in Malmö (Schweden) vor.

Georg Greve, Präsident der FSFE, wird einer der Hauptredner auf der OpenExpo sein. Diese Freie Software Ausstellung richtet sich an ein Publikum aus den Bereichen Wirtschaft und Technik. Herr Greve wird über den Stellenwert und die strategische Bedeutung Freier Software und Offener Standards in der Geschäftswelt reden.

Der Fachbereich Informatik der Fachhochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg veranstaltet mit Hilfe der Fachschaft Informatik, der LUUSA und des FrOSCon e.V. 2007 zum zweiten Mal eine Konferenz rund um Themen der Freien Software.

Die Konferenz richtet sich an Verwaltungsbeamte, höhere Verwaltungsbeamte (Direktoren und Referatsleiter), Rechtsanwälte und Politiker in den EU-Mitgliedsstaaten und den Nachbarländern der EU, die bei der Vermittlung von IT-Lösungen und bei strategischen Entscheidungen über Innovation und eGovernment involviert sind oder die juristische Beratung zum den Themen Copyright und Patente anbieten.

Prof. Arturo Di Corinto wird zwei Reden über Ethik und Praxis Freier Software moderieren, die von Richard Stallman, dem Gründer der Freie-Software-Bewegung, und Bruce Perens, dem Gründer der Open Source Initiative, gehalten werden. Die Veranstaltung ist eine Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Free Software Foundation Europe, der italienischen Associazione per il Software Libero, der Linux User Group La Sapienza und Wikimedia Italia. Sie bietet die Möglichkeit, den Hauptakteuren der Entwicklung Freier Software zuzuhören.
Die Veranstaltung findet am 7. Juni (Donnerstag) von 9:30 bis 13:30 in der Aula Magna della Caserma Sani (Via Principe Amedeo 184) statt. Zu Fuss ist sie von der Termini Bahnstation oder von der U-Bahn Haltestelle Piazza Vittorio Emanuele zu erreichen.

Georg Greve hält am 7.Juni (Dienstag) 2007 um 15.30h eine Rede über Freie Software und Wissenschaft im V-G-Kulkarni-Hörsaal des Homi Bhabha Zentrums für wissenschaftliche Ausbildung (HBCSE) in Mumbai, Indien.
Freie Software und Wissenschaft haben gemeinsame Wurzeln und tragen auf ähnliche Weise zur Verbesserung der Gesellschaft bei. In seiner Rede wird Herr Greve das Konzept der Freien Software erklären und aufzeigen, wie es dabei hilft, die wissenschaftliche Basis unserer Gesellschaft zu erhalten. Als Praxisbeispiel dieser Zusammenarbeit wird die Rede eine kurze Einführung in das SELF-Projekt (Wissenschaft, Bildung und Lernen in Freiheit), für das das Homi Bhabha Centre für wissenschaftliche Ausbildung, insbesondere das Tata-Institut für Grundlagenforschung, eine entscheidende Rolle spielt. Die Rede wird mit einem Überblick darüber schließen, wie dies alles mit dem globalen politischen Trend der Wissensmonopolisierung und der Initiative "Access to Knowledge" (Zugang zu Wissen) in Beziehung steht.

FSFE wird mit einem Stand auf dem LinuxTag 2007 vertreten sein, welcher dieses Jahr im Berliner Expo-Zentrum unter dem Funkturm stattfindet. Die FSFE wird dort Besucher über verschiedene Aspekte Freier Software informieren, wie z.B. die Freedom Task Force, Software Patente, das SELF-Projekt, GPLv3 oder das Fellowship-Programm. Geplant ist außerdem der Verkauf von FSFE T-Shirts und Freien-Software-Büchern. Bitte nutzen Sie die Gelegenheit und informieren Sie sich über Freie Software und die FSFE.

Die größte Veranstaltung der diesjährigen österreichischen Linuxwochen findet vom 31. Mai bis zum 2. Juni 2007 in der Urania in Wien statt. Die FSFE ist während aller drei Tage mit einem Stand dort, um über ihre Arbeit und über Freie Software im allgemeinen zu informieren.
Am 31. Mai um 17:00 Uhr hält Reinhard Müller einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Freie Software für eine freie Gesellschaft".
Der Eintritt ist zur gesamten Veranstaltung frei.

Die "eLiberatica"-Konferenz in Braşov ist die wichtigste rumänische Veranstaltung, die sich mit Freier Software beschäftigt. Sie findet am 18. und 19. Mai im rumänischen Braslov statt. Veranstalter sind zum einen die Organisation ROSI (Rumänische Vereinigung zur Vertretung Freier Software) und zum anderen "Agora Media", eine rumänische Mediengruppe. Aufgabe der "eLiberatica" ist es, sämtlicher Werbeaktivitäten für Freie Software in Rumänien zu bündeln, und über Basisorganisationen Unternehmen zu ermuntern, Freie Software einzusetzen. Daher richtet sich die Konferenz an Programmierer, Studenten und Geschäftsleute. Georg Greve wird eine Rede über offene Standards und freien Wettbewerb halten.

Am Samstag, dem 19. Mai 2007 um 9:30 hält Reinhard Müller die Eröffnungsrede für die Grazer Veranstaltung der Linuxwochen in der Fachhochschule "Johanneum".
Um 11:00 Uhr hält er dort einen weiteren Vortrag mit dem Titel "Freie Software für eine freie Gesellschaft".

Für Donnerstag, den 17. Mai, laden die FSFE und Digifri, Schweden, Sie zu einem Vortrag von Richard Stallman zum Thema "Copyright vs Community im Zeitalter der Computernetzwerke", ein. Die Vorlesung wird um 17.00h im Raum C4 der Linköping University gehalten.

On Wednesday the 16th of may, the FSFE and Göteborg University, Sweden, invites you to attend a lecture by Richard Stallman on Free Software and Beyond: Human Rights in the Use of Software and Other Published Works. Stallman will speak about the history and philosophy of the Free Software Movement, address how the ideas of Free Software do or don't extend to other kinds of published works and explain what the Pirate Party must change in its program to avoid unintended negative consequences in the software field.

FSFE will be present at the first Italian Conference on Free Software, a conference intended to examine the state of the art in Free Software. The conference wants to be the point of meeting of all the subjects that involved in the diffusion and in the use of the Free Software in Italy and all over the world, or undertaken, public corporate body, university, developers, researchers and impassioned, to know it and to start collaborations and projects. The conference will be a point of intersection for all of the subjects around Free Software both in Italy and world-wide. It will provide a forum for public bodies, universities, developers and researchers to network, collaborate and initiate projects.
This will be the first conference focusing on Free Software in science and is being organised by Hacklab Cosenza in collaboration of FSFE, University of Calabria.

On April 27th-29th 2007, the weekend of World "Intellectual Property Day", the Yale Information Society Project will hold its Second Annual Access to Knowledge (A2K) Conference. This A2K conference program focuses on mobilizing Industry, Civil Society, Governments and Technologists, around human rights, human development and the public interest in the domain of innovation and information policy, as well as understanding the theoretical underpinnings of access to knowledge issues. Georg Greve will be present, advocating Free Software, and will act as a moderator in the Mobilizing Technologists Panel.

On April 4th, 18:00 pm, Georg Greve and Jonas Oberg will give three public talks. Georg will present the FSFE, and Free Software issues in e-government, and Jonas will talk about the SELF project. This event will take place in Belgrade, it will also be an opportunity for the Free Software community in Serbia to meet, with people also coming from Macedonia and Croatia.

On Sunday April 1st, at 17h00, in Brussels, Richard Stallman will present the current status of the global project to update Free Software's keystone licence: the GNU GPL. This talk will be Stallman's first since the release of discussion draft 3 - the draft crafted to block patent deals such as that of Novell+Microsoft. This draft has also been simplified, and the DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) and tivoisation clauses have also been altered significantly.

Die Fellowship-Gruppe in Düsseldorf hat Werner Koch, den Hauptautor von GnuPG, eingeladen, über die Fellowship-Smartcard und ihre praktische Anwendung zu sprechen. Der Vortrag beginnt am 28. Jutta Horstmann wird über Content-Management-Systeme sprechen, Rainer Kersten vom Büro der FSFE wird ein bisschen etwas über die Free Software Foundation Europe erzählen, und die nachfolgende Diskussion wird sicher interessant :-).

The Fellowship group in Düsseldorf has invited Marcus Brinkmann to speak about restricted trust in computer systems. The event starts on 28 February 2007 at 20:00 in the "Gaststätte Phillip" in Düsseldorf. Admittance is free, although donations for the FSFE are of course welcome.

Vom 24.-25. Februar wird die FSFE an der FOSDEM 2007 in Brüssel, Belgien, teilnehmen. FOSDEM ist eine Europäische Freie Software Entwickler Konferenz, die von Freiwilligen organisiert wird.
Die FSFE wird mit einem Stand präsent sein, an dem Besucher über die aktuellen Aktionen, Freie Software selbst und das Fellowship der FSFE informiert werden. Wie gewöhnlich werden auch T-Shirts zum Verkauf angeboten werden.
Die Veranstaltung wirbt für den verbreiteten Gebrauch Freier Software, stellt einen Treffpunkt für Freie Software Entwickler und Gemeinschaften dar, um mit anderen Projekten in Kontakt zu kommen und um die Entwicklung und Vorzüge Freier Software Lösungen zu fördern.

Georg Greve, president of FSFE, has been invited to act as an observer at the third session of the Provisional Committee on Proposal Related to a WIPO Development Agenda (PCDA); he already participated to the 1st and the 2nd session. The meeting will be held in Geneva, from February 19th to 23rd, 2007.

During the second leg of the SELF project, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR will organise the second BOARD meeting in Mumbai, India. The issues that will be discussed are related to SELF Support Programme (SSP), Finances and budget, Expert groups, and other strategic plans. The week long meeting comprises of two days workshop sessions, three days board meeting, one day SELF conference and one day for a social event. George Greve and Jonas Oberg, president and vice president of the FSFE, will be part of the Legal Experts Group.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force (FTF) coordinator, will attend the LIFT conference in Geneva, Switzerland. LIFT is a conference to explore the challenges and opportunities of technology in society. Shane will participate in the 'Legal issues and perspectives' workshop hosted by the Swiss lawfirm BCCC.

Shane Coughlan, FTF coordinator, will be on IRC this Friday to answer questions about the Freedom Task Force, to discuss potential routes of involvement, and to chat in general about Free Software licensing in Europe. The discussion will take place on freenode in the #fsfeurope channel between 9am and 11am GMT time (10am to 12 noon CET).

The president of FSFE, Georg Greve, will give a lecture titled "What is Free Software and are Free Software solutions professional enough for our daily business?" during the "Nexell informiert", in Zurich. The lecture is starting on 4 December at 17:30 at "Schweizerisches Institut für Betriebsökonomie".
"Nexell informiert" is a meeting where experts are invited to talk and spread awareness about Free Software issues, organised by the Nexell, an independent team of international and multilingual CRM professionals, there to help customers find the right technologies, platforms and solutions to meet their needs and budgets.

FSFE president Georg Greve will participate as member of the jury at the Third Edition of the Trophées du Libre. The ceremony will take place the 30 November 2006 at Soissons (France). Trophées du Libre is an international competition rewarding the best free software projects among 6 categories: Security, Multimedia and Games, Company management, Educational, Applications for Public infrastructures and for communities, PHP.

The 5th international conference on GPLv3 will be a 2-day event held in Japan on November 21st and 22nd. Organised by Free Software Initiative Japan, this event will host experts and interested parties who will make presentations and participate in discussions about Free Software's cornerstone licence. FSFE will be represented by Georg Greve (President) and Ciarán O'Riordan. The joint goals are to maximise awareness of the GPLv3 process and to give attendees the information necessary to make informed comments on the licence drafts and to help them to explain the proposed changes to others.

Georg Greve, Präsident der FSFE, wird während dem bevorstehenden OpenTuesday Treffen am 7. November in Zürich einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Kommerzielle, praktische und gesellschaftliche Aspekte Freier Software" halten. Der Vortrag beginnt um 18Uhr.
OpenTuesday Treffen sind monatliche Treffen auf die Experten eingeladen werden um über Themen aus dem Bereich Freie Software zu sprechen und um ein Bewusstsein für diese Themen zu erzeugen.

Dublin, Ireland. Ciarán O'Riordan will give a presentation on GNU GPLv3 regarding the state of the discussion and the options open on DRM and tivoisation - using the Linux kernel as an example. This presentation will be part a day-long event for the ILUG AGM.

From 30 October to 2 November the UN is holding its first Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Athens, Greece. FSFE president Georg Greve is participating to discuss issues of software sovereignty and to participate in the high level panel on Access.

FSFE will be at the "LinuxWorld Expo" in London, on the 25th/26th of October. FSFE will have a booth at the event. Please come and visit us to learn more about Free Software, the work of the FSFE and the Fellowship.

At the Internet days 2006 in Stockholm, Sweden, FSFE vice president Jonas Öberg will participate in a panel discussion on open document formats. The FSFE will also be present with a booth during the event.

This year's annual KDE conference will be held in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. FSFE will be represented by Ciaran O'Riordan who will deliver a keynote on Software Patents at 13:45 on Sunday the 24th, and will lead a Birds of a Feather session on GPLv3 from 19:00 to 20:00 on Tuesday th 26th. aKademy is generally technical in nature.

Georg Greve, president of FSFE, will partecipate in a policy panel, at the workshop "IPR protection of software", to explain and make clear the advantages and benefits of Free Software licensing. The panel will take place on the second day of the workshop, the 22nd of September at 13:00. The venue is the Hotel Linna, Helsinki.

Reinhard Müller und Patrick Ohnewein halten je einen Einführungsvortrag beim "Tiroler Linuxtag", der letzten Veranstaltung in der Reihe der diesjährigen österreichischen Linuxwochen. Reinhard Müller gibt einen generellen Überblick über Freie Software und informiert über das Fellowship. Patrick Ohnewein referiert über CoCOS, ein Kopetenzzentrum zu Freier Software, und über Freie Software im Südtirol.
Die Veranstaltung findet am 9. September 2006 von 10:00 Uhr bis 17:00 Uhr in der UMIT, einer privaten Universität in Hall im Tirol, statt. Der Eintritt ist frei.

Ciaran O'Riordan wird die wichtigsten Änderungen in Version drei der GNU GPL vorstellen und Fragen dazu beantworten. Das Ziel soll an diesem Abend sein, Menschen, die an freier Software interessiert sind, genug Informationen zur Verfügung zu stellen, damit sie im verbleibenden Zeitraum der einjährigen öffentlichen Beratungsphase Verbesserungen vorschlagen und konstruktive Kritik üben können.

An einem der regelmäßigen Networking Treffen der Dataföreningen Region West wird Jonas Öberg, Vizepräsident der FSFE, einen Überblick über die GPLv3 geben und die vorgeschlagenen Änderungen sowie die Gründe dafür erläutern.

Die 4. internationale Konferenz zum Entwurf der 3. Version der GNU GPL wird am 23. und 24. August in Bangalore (Indien) stattfinden. Die FSFE wird bei dieser Veranstaltung durch ihren Leiter des GPLv3 Projekts, Ciaran O'Riordan, vertreten. Desweiteren wird O'Riordan bei der Organisation der Konferenz helfen und die Bindung zwischen der FSFE und ihrer Schwesterorganisation in Indien (FSFI) stärken.

The public kick off conference for the "Science Education and Learning in Freedom" (SELF) project, will take place in the Hague, Netherlands on the 10th of July. Georg Greve, president of FSFE, and Jonas Oberg, vice president of FSFE, will participate at the conference. Greve will be the keynote on the topic "Strategic implications of Free Software in the Netherlands and in Europe", and Oberg will lead the panel discussion about "The Open Content Revolution"

Als Teil der Arbeit der FSFE an der Reform des weltweiten Systems von Urheberrechten, Patenten und Warenzeichen wird Georg Greve, Präsident der FSFE, wie bereits an der ersten Sitzung im Februar 2006, auch an der zweiten Sitzung der World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Provisional Committee on Proposals Related to a WIPO Development Agenda (PCDA) teilnehmen. Das treffen wird bei den Vereinten Nationen in Genf stattfinden.

Ciaran O'Riordan will give an overview of the current proposal for how v3 of the GNU GPL will differ from v2. Topics will include a description of the year-long public consultation process and how GPLv3 will strive to preserve freedom in spite of DRM, software patents, and a complicated legal World.

Auf dieser zweitägigen internationalen Konferenz werden Fachleute aus dem Bereich GPLv3 und Freie Software Lizenzierung die vorgeschlagenen Änderungen der GNU General Public License präsentieren, dem Eckpfeiler der Freien Software Lizenzen. Es werden thematische Diskussionen organisiert und die Fachleute werden Fragen der Teilnehmer beantworten. Das gemeinsame Ziel ist es die Kenntnis über den GPLv3 Prozess zu verbessern und den Teilnehmern die nötigen Informationen zu geben um die vorgeschlagenen Änderungen anderen zu erklären.

Freie Software trifft auf digitalen Lifestyle: Am Freitag, 16. Juni, wird Georg Greve auf dem Dorkbot Swiss Treffen im Kunstraum Walcheturm in Zürich (Schweiz) um 20:00 Uhr eine Rede halten. Die Veranstaltung beschäftigt sich hauptsächlich mit den sozialen Fragen zur digitalen Freiheit.

Österreichs größte Veranstaltung über Freie Software findet von Mittwoch, den 31. Mai 2006, 10:00 Uhr bis Freitag, den 2. Juni 2006, 22:00 Uhr in der Urania, Uraniastraße 1, im ersten Bezirk in Wien statt. Der Eintritt ist frei.
Die FSFE ist mit einem Stand vertreten. Mitglieder der FSFE, Fellows und Freiwillige stehen an allen drei Tagen zur Verfügung, um über die Arbeit der FSFE und über das Fellowship zu informieren.
Am Mittwoch, dem 31. Mai um 20:00 Uhr hält Karin Kosina einen Vortrag mit dem Titel "Freie Software für freie Menschen", in dem sie die Free Software Foundation Europe vorstellt.

Auf der 5. "System Administration and Network Engineering Conference" in Delft, wird Georg Greve, Präsident der FSFE, eine Einführung in die GPL Version 3 geben. Welche Änderungen vorgenommen wurden, was die Gründe dafür waren und wie man an dem Prozess teilhaben kann um sicherzustellen, dass die GPLv3 die bestmögliche GPL wird.

Wie jedes Jahr, wird die FSFE auch diesmal am GNU/LinuxTag teilnehmen, eines der jährlichen Höhepunkte für Freie Software seit 1996. Die FSFE wird mit vielen Freiwilligen und Präsentationen über Freie Software und ihre Arbeit informieren. Treffen Sie viele der FSFE Aktivisten und besuchen Sie deren Vorträge zur WIPO, GPLv3, DRM und anderen Themen.

Federico Heinz will give two talks in Dublin, Ireland. One on "Free Software and Education", and one on "The Imperative for Free Software in Public Administration". This event is being organised by Ciaran O'Riordan with Irish Free Software Organisation. O'Riordan will also make a presentation about GPLv3: the process and the largest changes.

The Grand Jury of the EU Court of Justice is ready for the big hearing on the Microsoft Antitrust Case. The hearing will take place in the Grande Salle of the EU Court, from the 24th until the 28th of April. Georg Greve president of FSFE, Carlo Piana FSFE's lawyer on the case and Andrew Tridgell of the Samba Team will be present at the event to defend the Court from Microsoft's legal team efforts of circumventing once again their obligations.

Auf der ersten internationalen Access to Knowledge Konferenz an der Yale Law School wird Karsten Gerloff die Podiumsdiskussion "Licensing Frameworks for Access to Knowledge" moderieren. Die Teilnehmer werden nach alternativen Wegen suchen, um den besseren Zugang zu Wissen in einer Welt der digitalen Netze zu fördern. Auf der Konferenz soll ein analytischer Rahmen entworfen werden, der eine Untersuchung möglicherweise unerwünschter Nebenwirkungen politischer Bemühungen ermöglicht, die ausschliesslich auf Urheber- und Patentrecht zurückgreifen.

Das 7. Free Software Forum (FISL) wird auch diesmal in Porto Alegre, Brasilien stattfinden und gleichzeitig Gastgeber für die zweite internationale GPLv3 Konferenz sein. Die FSFE wird bei dieser Veranstaltung durch ihren Präsidenten Georg Greve und FSF's Brüssel Beauftragten Ciaran O'Riordan vertreten. Beide werden sowohl an der GPLv3 Konferenz als auch an der Hauptveranstaltung (FISL) teilnehmen: Georg Greve wird eine der Eröffnungsreden mit dem Titel "Free Software - Social Movement or Technological Revolution?" halten und Ciaran O'Riordan wird über die Arbeit gegen Softwarepatente reden. Beide werden auch mit der Schwesterorganisation der FSFE, die FSF Latin America, zusammenarbeiten und die lokale Freie Software Gemeinschaft treffen um das internationale Freie Software Netzwerk zu festigen.

Ciaran O'Riordan and Gareth Bowker will speak in London on why and what FSFE does to prevent legislative harm to software freedom - harm such as that caused by patenting software or distorting copyright. O'Riordan will also discuss the GPLv3 and its year-long public consultation process. Both will take questions.

On 18th March, Richard Stallman will talk in Turin about the future of Free Software, introducing the Italian audience to the updating process of the GNU General Public License ("the GPL"), the license that protects the freedom of about 100 million software users in the world, being the most used license for Free Software.

As every year, the Free Software Foundation Europe will participate in the FOSDEM in Brussels, a European Free Software Developer Conference. As every year, the FSFE Team will be speaking with many people from the Free Software community, inform about its work and this year even present a little surprise.

After the Inter-Sessional Inter-Governmental Meetings (IIM) on the establishment of a Development Agenda at the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Georg C. F. Greve and Karsten Gerloff of FSFE will also participate in the 2006 WIPO Provisional Committee on Proposals Related to a WIPO Development Agenda (PCDA) followup.

FSF Europe, represented by Georg C. F. Greve, Ciaran O'Riordan, and Stefano Maffulli, will participate in the presentation of a first discussion draft on version 3 of the GNU General Public License at the Free Software Foundation First International Conference on GPLv3, being held at the MIT in Cambridge, USA.

At the Chaos Computer Club's 22nd Chaos Communication Congress, Karsten Gerloff will give a talk on Free Software, Access to Knowledge and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). The talk is scheduled for Dec. 30th, 14:00.

Georg C. F. Greve, President of FSFE, will participate in panels about e-government and digital society at LACFREE II, a UNESCO sponsored conference on Free Software development and usage being held in the Brazilian cities Recife and Olinda.

Having been invited to the 5th Regional Free Software Days, Georg Greve will participate in this important Latin American event, which spans technical, social and cultural topics. He will also be a guest to the public part of the first general assembly of the Free Software Foundation Latin America, which is going to be held at this event.

In an event organised by FSFE's associate organisation Irish Free Software Organisation, FSFE's Brussels Representative, Ciaran O'Riordan, will speak about his work to prevent software patents, and what could be the road ahead. He, and the other speakers, will also discuss similar legislation, which is getting much less attention, such as IPRED2.

The second phase of the United Nations (UN) World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) will be held between 14th and 18th November in Tunis. Georg C. F. Greve, President of FSFE, will be working to promote digital freedom and equality in discussions and side-events with other participants from Governments, Civil Society, the Private Sector and the United Nations.

From 15. to 17. November, FSFE will be at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo 2005. FSFE will be present with a booth. Please take the opportunity to get informed about Free Software, the work of the FSFE and the Fellowship. There will also be the chance to get informed about the OpenPGP smartcard.

The World Summit on the Information Society and the role of Local Authorities is held in Bilbao, Spain between the 9th and 11th of november. Jonas Öberg will participate in the workshop on Free Software on the 10th of november at 16.45 to discuss the importance of Free Software in government administration.

Georg C. F. Greve, President of FSF Europe, will be speaking at Tweakfest 2005 - Visions of Digital Life Style on Nov 10th 2005 in Zürich, a congress organised by the local Academy of Design and Art.
The topic of his talk will be "Who owns the Information Society? - Open source is not enough!"

The Swedish Internet infrastructure foundation is organising the conference Internetdagarna 2005 at the Clarion Hotel in Stockholm, Sweden, between the 24th and 25th of october. Several issues will be discussed during the conference, including a discussion on Sweden's IT policy and the dangers of a digital divide. FSF Europe's Jonas Öberg will participate throughout the conference

At the Third Conference on Free Software in the Amazonas, Georg Greve will meet with local and international Free Software activists to work on questions related to Free Software and Development.

Stefano Maffulli, Italian Chancellor, will be speaking at the biggest professional conference of the Hungarian Internet users. The event will see participants from the communication and financial experts, from governmental institutions, and representatives of Telkom, ISP and other service institutions. The subject of this year's conference is: what possibilities are there on the Internet for the media and communication industry, and what sort of business activities can be carried out with the help of the Internet, with special attention to those economic activities.

On the 3rd of October, Jonas Öberg will participate in a workshop on the World Summit of the Information Society, focused on Internet Governance and Human Rights. The workshop is organised by the Collegium for Development Studies at Uppsala University, Sweden, and will be held at the Hammarskog Conference Centre, Sweden.

FSFE's president Georg Greve has been invited to speak at the Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Development and Use of Free Software. He will talk about Free Software as a social movement and its interaction in the political field, in particular on United Nations level, such as WIPO. Georg Greve is also looking forward to a session on the Free Software Foundations with participants from FSF Latin America, FSF India and FSF Europe. During this event he will share with the audience some of the work that FSFE has done in the past years.

FSFE will take part in this final preparatory meeting for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). We will contribute the perspective of Free Software to the various meetings and negotiations.

Stefano Maffulli, Italian Chancellor, will be speaking at the OpenOffice.org Conference 2005 in Koper - Capodistria (Slovenia). Participants are invited to register (free of charge).

London, August 13th is the Annual General Meeting of UK-based Association For Free Software (AFFS). This year Ciaran O'Riordan will be giving a talk about what has been achieved and what we must do to prepare for the future battles over software patentability.

At the What the Hack! outdoor conference, Georg Greve will give a talk on FSFE's work and the Fellowship project. Karsten Gerloff will hold a lecture on WIPO and the Development Agenda.

Following up on FSFE's activities during the first two part of WIPO's Meetings on a Development Agenda, Georg Greve and Karsten Gerloff will work to make sure the needs of Free Software are taken into account in any WIPO agreements.

The "Jornades des Programari Lliure" is a Free Software conference in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Catalonia. Karin Kosina will give an introduction to 3D programming with Coin3D on 7 July at 15:30 and hold a speech about making money with Free Software on 8 July at 11:30.

At the GNU/Linuxtag 2005, world's biggest GNU/Linux fair, FSFE will present itself with two booths, several talks and a large number of people. For the second part of World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)'s Intersessional Intergovernmental Meeting, FSFE will again send a delegation to Geneva. In coordination with other Civil Society Actors, FSFE will work to direct WIPO's work towards increasing intellectual wealth and addressing the needs and demands of Free Software.

On 8th June 2005 FSFE will be present at the round table "Art culture knowledge democracy". Italian chancellor Stefano Maffulli will be there with other participants like Brasilian Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil, Italian Creative Commons Public Lead, Juan Carlos De Martin and many more.

At the WSIS Contributory Conference in Vienna, Georg Greve will hold a speech "Free Software as intellectual wealth for the information society". The conference aims to come to a "Vienna Declaration on Creativity" which will call attention to the fact that creativity is a natural resource of the human mind.

Staring 14h30, after a street demonstration against software patents, FSFE will be organising a Freedom Party to celebrate digital freedom as part of its Fellowship campaign. The venue hasn't been set yet, but it will be close to Square de Meeus, where the street demonstration ends. Square de Meeus is a grassy square that sits on either side of Rue de Luxembourg, half-way between the European Parliament and Trone metro station.

Karin Kosina wird die Linuxwochen Wien am 24. Mai mit einer Rede eröffnen. Außerdem wird sie am 26. Mail über die Wichtigkeit des Begriffs "Freie Software" sprechen. Georg Greve wird am 25. Mai einen Vortrag über Freie Software im B2B-Bereich und öffentlichen Verwaltungen halten. Beide werden außerdem an Podiumsdiskussionen teilnehmen.

Georg Greve will participate in a Conference on Access to Knowledge (A2K), organised by the group Trans Atlantic Consumer Dialogue. At the London event, consumer representatives, librarians, experts from governments, international and civil society organizations will work on proposals for an Access to Knowledge Treaty.

At the invitation of the World Bank, Georg Greve will speak to IT and procurement professionals attending a training in procurement of information systems. He will signal the specific advantages of Free Software for development projects.

From 12. April to 15. April, the FSFE will participate in the inter-sessional intergovernmental meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva. As only permanent observers were invited to participate, most Civil Society organisations will not be allowed to attend this highly critical meeting on the future agenda of WIPO. The FSFE delegation so far consists of Georg Greve, Karsten Gerloff and Volker Grassmuck. Together with other Civil Society actors, they will work to see WIPOs mission reoriented towards increasing intellectual wealth and see Free Software questions properly addressed.

LinuxForum 2005 will be held in Copenhagen during the weekend between the 4th and 5th of March. FSF Europe will be represented by Henrik Sandklef, together with the Danish organisation IT-Politisk Forening that is working for information freedom in Denmark.

A conference on Free Software will be held at Istanbul Bilgi University on March 4th and 5th 2005. The focus will be on the opportunities Free Software offers for the Turkish economy. On March 4th, Georg Greve will deliver a speech on commercial, practical and sociological aspects of Free Software and the GNU Project.

Between the 2nd and 4th of March, Karin Kosina and Jonas Öberg will give talks at the Free and Open Source Software Workshop in Damascus. Karin will talk about the economic aspects of Free Software and Jonas will talk about formal education on Free Software on a university level.

Between the 26th and 27th of February, this years installment of FOSDEM will take place in Brussels. The FSF Europe will be represented by several members and volunteers, and will also sell t-shirts and other merchandise.

FSFE is planning to participate in the Preparatory Committee (2. PrepCom) meeting of the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Georg Greve intends to be in Geneva, Switzerland from 17. - 25. February 2005.

On Friday, 18th February, Georg Greve will give a talk at LOTS at the University of Bern, Switzerland. In his lecture, he will talk about the origins and the advantages of Free Software. Gratis admission for people who have registered until 31th of January, else you have to pay CHF 10.

FSFE is going to participate in the World Social Forum from 26th to 31st January 2005 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. On 26th January, Georg Greve will participate at an event with the topic "Digital Revolution: Knowledge Sharing x Impresionment on Information Society". The event will take place in Room A105 from 15:30 am to 18:30 am.

On Friday, Jan 14th 2005 at 19:30, Georg Greve will hold a talk about the challenges of Free Software in the digital age and about the work of the Free Software Foundation Europe. The talk will be held in Theatre Q, Arts Block on the UCD campus on January 14th and will be open to the public.

From November 26th until November 28th, 2004, the SFScon will take place in Bolzano, Italy. Two members of the Free Software Foundation Europe will give three different lectures: Werner Koch will speak about "Privacy and encryption techniques", Alessandro Rubini will present "Free Software in teaching" and gives an "Introduction to kernel programming".

The Congresso Internacional de Software Livre (CONISLI) -- a Free Software conference organized entirely by the Free Software community in Brazil -- will take place in the Anhembi Convention Center, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Georg Greve will open the congress with a keynote on Thursday.

Am Samstag dem 9. Oktober 2004 um 16:00 Uhr wird Georg Greve an einer Diskussion zum Thema Freie Software auf dem aLANtejo teilnehmen. Die Veranstaltung ist öffentlich, eine Registrierung auf der Webseite des Veranstalters (nur in Portugiesisch verfügbar) ist jedoch notwendig.

On Tuesday, Oct 5 2004, at 14:00 Georg Greve will speak about visions for Free Software. The speech will be delivered in German.

Am Freitag, dem 1. Oktober 2004, wird Georg Greve an der Veranstaltung zum Thema "Autonomie und Freiheit des Wissens in der Informationsgesellschaft. Politische, wirtschaftliche und kulturelle Folgen einer Entscheidung" teilnehmen. Die Konferenz wird um 9:00 beginnen und am späten Abend enden. Zielgruppe der Veranstaltung sind Verwaltungsleiter, AbteilungsleiterInnen und AmtsdirektorenInnen in Südtirol, sowie Vertreter aus der Arbeitswelt, interessierte Vereinigungen und Bürger. Die Teilnahe an der Veranstaltung ist kostenlos. Es ist jedoch eine Registrierung auf der Webseite des Veranstalters bis zum 30. September erforderlich.

On September 23rd Georg Greve will participate to the Expert Meeting on Free Software. He will speak about Free Software and its role in advancing the information society, in particular developing countries.

On Monday, Sept 6 2004, Georg Greve will participate in a discussion round "digital commons" among Lawrence Lessig, the initiator of the prizewinning project "Creative Commons". Questions of the discussion will be: To whom does knowledge belong and how free are Free Software, content and infrastructure?

On Monday, July 22 at 10:00 Georg Greve holds a speech about the Free Software Foundation Europe. He also participates at round table discussions on the topic "Must governments support Free Software?" on Wednesday, July 21 from 12:30 to 13:30 and from 13:30 to 14:30 and on the topic "Software Patents in Europe" on Thursday, July 22 at the same time. The speeches will be delivered in English.

Der GNU/LinuxTag ist eine der größten Veranstaltungen rund um Freie Software. Auch dieses Jahr ist die FSF Europe dort mit einem Stand vertreten. Mehrere Mitglieder unseres Teams stehen für die Beantwortung von Fragen rund um unsere Aktivitäten zur Verfügung, und wir bieten Fanartikel wie T-Shirts und Pins zugunsten unserer Arbeit für Freie Software zum Kauf an. Bernhard Reiter und Georg Greve werden am Mittwoch um 16:00 Uhr, am Donnerstag um 14:00 Uhr und am Samstag um 13:00 Uhr Vorträge über Freie Software und ihre Lizenzen halten.

Im Rahmen der "Wizards of OS 2004" wird ein Workshop unter dem Titel "Where next for copyright in Europe?" (Wohin geht das Copyright in Europa?) abgehalten. Auf der Liste der Vortragenden scheint auch FSFE-Mitglied Georg Jakob auf, der über die Gewinner und Verlierer der "Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Directive" sprechen wird.

Vom 20. Mai 2004 bis zum 10. Juni 2004 besuchte Georg Greve Südamerika. Er traf sich mit der ansässigen Freien-Software-Community in Argentinien, Uruguay und Brasilien, um sie in ihren Bemühungen für Freiheit zu unterstützen und Erfahrungen aus der Arbeit der FSFE weiterzugeben.

Henrik Sandklef will hold a 30 minute talk on Free Software in the Public Interest during the EuroPython 2004 conference. The talk will be held in Room 1 at 09:30 on the 8th of june.

Jonas Öberg and Henrik Sandklef will participate in a panel discussion on "Licensing your Python Applications" during the EuroPython 2004 conference. The discussion will take place in Room 3 at 16:00 on the 7th of june.
