Following the success of the illustrated book "Ada & Zangemann - A Tale of Software, Skateboards, and Raspberry Ice Cream", and thanks to the FSFE's donors the story has been available as an animated movie since 2024.

Released as an Open Educational Resource, under a Creative Commons By Share-Alike Licence, it tells the story of the famous inventor Zangemann and the girl Ada, a curious tinkerer. Ada begins to experiment with hardware and software, and in the process realises how crucial it is for her and others to control technology.

This fascinating story, written by Matthias Kirschner, illustrated by Sandra Brandstätter and animated by Monströös, encourages children, especially girls, to tinker with hardware and software and to shape their own technology.

For screenings in a cinema, you can download the necessary DCP files from the FSFE's download server.

Thanks to Lichtburg Essen for taking over the creation of the DCP files for the film in different languages free of charge. For the creation process, they used Free Software tools: Handbrake, Subtitle Edit, and OpenShot Video Editor for pre-editing the material; DCP-o-matic on a powerful render server for the actual DCP creation; and Aurora Files, FileZilla Server, and Client for the provision.
