Free Software Conference Scandinavia, à Göteborg, Suède

La FSFE organise la Free Software Conference Scandinavia (FSCONS), qui se déroulera à Gothenburg, en Suède les 7 et 8 décembre 2007. C'est le premier événement de ce genre dans la région, inspiré par l'élan grandissant autour du Logiciel Libre.

Rencontre de la Fellowship à Düsseldorf

Le groupe de la Fellowship de Düsseldorf est heureux d'annoncer sa prochaine rencontre le 28 novembre à 19h30 au pub "Südstern", Bilker Allee 66 à Düsseldorf. Shane Coughlan, le coordinateur de la Freedom Task Force, nous parlera des licences de Logiciels Libres, des processus d'entreprise, et comment le mouvement du Logiciel Libre a évolué vers un courant majoritaire dans le déploiement des TIC. Werner Koch rapportera un débat public au parlement sur la nouvelle loi NRW qui s'est interrogé sur la problématique de la sécurité et de la liberté.

Rencontre de la Fellowship à Nijmegen (NL)

Shane Coughlan, coordinateur de la Freedom task Force de la FSFE sera à Nijmegen le 26 novembre et nous en profitons pour proposer une rencontre de la Fellowship à 18h ce soir-là au Cafe Jos.
Shane Coughlan parlera des travaux de la Freedom Task Force, et discutera des événements en cours dans les activités juridiques du Logiciel Libre en Europe.
Rainer Kersten, un fellow de Düsseldorf nous parlera des expériences de la Fellowship rhénane.

SFScon 2007 + FSFE Fellowship meeting

16 – 21 November 2007

As for the 2006 edition, this year's SFScon – the annual South Tyrol Free Software conference – will be followed by the FSFE Fellowship meeting.
Both events will take place in Meran/o (South Tyrol, Italy), from November, 16th to 17th and from November, 18th to 21st respectively.
Entrance is free; registration is strongly encouraged.

IGF side events

11 – 13 November 2007

A number of Free Software related events will happen around the Internet Governance Forum in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
On 11 November, a discussion oriented conference with the title "Digital Inclusion: Accelerating Global Participation and Access through Open ICT Standards" takes place from 8:30 to 17:30.
The Dynamic Coalition on Open Standards sponsors an Open Workshop titled "The Intersection of Open ICT Standards, Development, and Public Policy" on 12 November from 15:30 to 17:00, and a Best Practice Workshop on "Open ICT Standards for Greater Citizen Access: Best Practices in Government Policy and Procurement Practices" on 13 November from 16:30 to 18:00.
All these events take place in the Windsor Barra Hotel.

Come2Linux, Essen

10 – 11 November 2007

FSFE will have a booth at the Come2Linux, which takes place from 10 to 11 November in Essen, Germany. Michael Kesper from the German team and Dr Michael Stehmann from FTFs legal network will be available to answer questions. Also, T-shirts and other merchandise will be sold at the event as usual.

On the 3rd of November, Shane Coughlan from FSFE will speak at elce2007 about the business advantages inherent in Free Software and describe the licences that facilitate the freedoms it delivers. He will discuss the processes that help companies ensure they maximise benefit and minimise liability in Free Software deployment. He will also outline how Free Software and Open Standards work together to ensure a competitive marketplace.

Two Free Software speeches at LinuxWorld NL, The Netherlands

Shane Coughlan will deliver two talks at LinuxWorld NL. The first will take place on the 31st of October and discribe the work of Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) and some of our current projects. Shane will also provide an overview of Free Software software licences, practical compliance issues, the importance of truly Open Standards and and the work of FSFE's Freedom Task Force.

Sustainable-IT in Berlin, Germany

17 – 18 October 2007

On the 18. October from 14:00 to 15:30 Matthias Kirschner, FSFE's German deputy coordinator, will take part in a panel discussion at the Sustainable-IT conference. The topic of the discussion is "IT sustainability -- international. How can software contribute to resource protection and a fair distribution of knowledge". It takes place at the Kalkscheune, Johannisstraße 2 in Berlin. Registration on their website is required. Admission fee is 25 EUR, reduced 15 EUR.  

1er Forum de Software Livre

Les 12 et 13 octobre prochains, l'université de Lisbonne accueillera le 1er "Forum de Software Livre", au cours duquel les universitaires comme les professionnels pourront partager leurs expériences avec les Logiciels Libres comme alternatives technologiques solides et crédibles, adaptées aux petites, moyennes et grandes entreprises. On Wednesday 26 September 2007 at 19:30, Dr. Michael Stehmann gives a speech with the following topics:

  • Why licenses?
  • Criteria for Free Software licenses
  • Which licenses do exist?

On Thursday June 28th at 21h00, there will be the first Benelux meeting of the Fellowship. The aim will be to get to know each other and to discuss what each person would like to get active on in the coming year. There will also be a social session on the night of Saturday June 30th. Details about venues will be on the Fellowship site as the information becomes available.

Free Software founding fathers at La Sapienza University

Prof. Arturo Di Corinto will moderate two speeches on the ethics and practice of free, open source software, by Richard Stallman, founder of the Free Software movement, and Bruce Perens, founder of the Open Source Initiative. The event, in collaboration with Free Software Foundation Europe, the italian Associazione per il Software Libero, Linux User Group La Sapienza, Wikimedia Italia, will be an opportunity to listen to the leading actors of the evolution of free/libre software.
The event will be held Thursday June 7th from 9.30am until 1.30pm at the Aula Magna della Caserma Sani, located in Via Principe Amedeo, 184. It is reachable walking from Termini Rail Station or by the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele metro station.
Admission is free for the whole event. Audio/Video streaming will be also available.  

Colloquium on Free Software and science

On Thursday June 7, 2007 at 3:30 pm in the V G Kulkarni Auditorium at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Mumbai, India, Georg Greve gives a talk about Free Software and science.
Free Software and science share common roots, and benefit society in several similar ways. In his talk, Mr Greve will explain the concept of Free Software and how it relates to maintaining our scientific basis as a society. As a practical example of this collaboration, the talk will give a brief introduction of the Science, Education and Learning in Freedom project, in which the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research plays a crucial role. The talk will close with an overview of how all of this relates to the global political trends of knowledge monopolisation, and the Access to Knowledge initiative.

On Saturday 19 May 2007 at 9:30, Reinhard Müller holds the keynote for the Linuxwochen event at the University of Applied Sciences "Johanneum" in Graz.
At 11:00 he gives another speech titled "Free Software for a free society" there.
As a part of the same event, the twelfth Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place at 15:00. As usual, all people interested in FSFE or Free Software are invited to this meeting.
The FSFE also has a booth at the event where it informs about its work and about Free Software in general.

Conférence eLiberatica, à Braşov

18 – 19 May 2007

La conférence eLiberatica est l'évenement majeur concernant le Logiciel Libre en Roumanie. Elle se tiendra le 18 et le 19 Mai, à Braşov, en Roumanie, et est organisée par ROSI, une association roumaine promouvant le Logiciel Libre, et par Agora Media, entreprise roumaine de communication. Le but d'eLiberatica est d'unifier les initiatives roumaines promouvant le Logiciel Libre, et d'inciter les entreprises à adopter le Logiciel Libre, en favorisant les initiatives locales. La conférence s'adresse donc aux programmeurs, aux étudiants, et au monde de l'entreprise. Georg Greve y parlera des standards ouverts et de la libre concurrence.

On Wednesday the 16th of may, the FSFE and Göteborg University, Sweden, invites you to attend a lecture by Richard Stallman on Free Software and Beyond: Human Rights in the Use of Software and Other Published Works. Stallman will speak about the history and philosophy of the Free Software Movement, address how the ideas of Free Software do or don't extend to other kinds of published works and explain what the Pirate Party must change in its program to avoid unintended negative consequences in the software field.

Première conférence italienne sur le Logiciel Libre

La FSFE sera présente à cette première conférence italienne sur le Logiciel Libre. La première d'une série de rencontres annuelles chargées de favoriser la diffusion du Logiciel Libre en Italie, mais également d'exposer ses résultats, tant en termes économiques et techniques, qu'éthiques, sociaux et philosophiques. Cette conférence se veut le point de rencontre de tous les acteurs impliqués dans la diffusion et l'usage du Logiciel Libre en Italie et dans le monde, et que tous ceux-ci, employés de sociétés, universitaires, développeurs, chercheurs ou simplement passionnés, puissent y trouver l'occasion de nouvelles collaborations et des opportunités de création de nouveaux projets. L'objectif des organisateurs est également de proposer la première conférence scientifique sur le Logiciel Libre en Italie.
La conférence est organisée par le Centre de Recherche des Technologies et des Innovations Hacklab Cosenza et la FSFE, avec la collaboration de l'université de Calabre.

Second Annual Access to Knowledge Conference

27 – 29 April 2007

On April 27th-29th 2007, the weekend of World "Intellectual Property Day", the Yale Information Society Project will hold its Second Annual Access to Knowledge (A2K) Conference. This A2K conference program focuses on mobilizing Industry, Civil Society, Governments and Technologists, around human rights, human development and the public interest in the domain of innovation and information policy, as well as understanding the theoretical underpinnings of access to knowledge issues. Georg Greve will be present, advocating Free Software, and will act as a moderator in the Mobilizing Technologists Panel.

GPLv3: Improving a Great Licence

On Sunday April 1st, at 17h00, in Brussels, Richard Stallman will present the current status of the global project to update Free Software's keystone licence: the GNU GPL. This talk will be Stallman's first since the release of discussion draft 3 - the draft crafted to block patent deals such as that of Novell+Microsoft. This draft has also been simplified, and the DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) and tivoisation clauses have also been altered significantly.

The tenth Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place on 16 March in Vienna. We meet around 18:00 in the Library Room at the Metalab, Rathausstraße 6, first district. The "official" agenda will start at 19:00.
A major topic this time is the planning of FSFE's participation in this year's Linuxwochen event series in Austria

"Trusted Computing" et les DRM

Le groupe de la Fellowship de Düsseldorf a invité Marcus brinkmann à venir parler de la confiance limitée des systèmes informatiques. Cette conférence se tiendra le 28 February 2007 at 20:00 à la "Gaststätte Phillip" à Düsseldorf. L'entrée est gratuite, mais les dons à la FSFE seront bien sûr appréciés.

"FOSDEM", Brussels (Belgium)

24 – 25 February 2007

FSFE will attend FOSDEM 2007 which takes place from 24th - 25th of February in Brussels, Belgium. FOSDEM is a European Free Software developer conference organized by volunteers.
The FSFE will be present with a booth where visitors will be informed about recent activities, Free Software itself and the Fellowship of the FSFE. Georg Greve, president of FSFE, will do this year's Closing Keynote, on the topic of "Beyond GPLv3: Free Software today and tomorrow". Shane M. Coughlan will be giving a Lightning talk at FOSDEM about the Free Software licensing and the Freedom Task Force. As usual, T-Shirts will be sold as well.
The event promotes the widespread use of Free Software, to provide Free Software developers and communities a place to meet, to get in touch with other projects, and to promote the development and the benefits of Free Software solutions.
 

"WIPO Provisional Committee on Proposal Related to a WIPO Development Agenda (PCDA)--3rd Session, Geneva (Switzerland)

Georg Greve, president of FSFE, has been invited to act as an observer at the third session of the Provisional Committee on Proposal Related to a WIPO Development Agenda (PCDA); he already participated to the 1st and the 2nd session. The meeting will be held in Geneva, from February 19th to 23rd, 2007.

Freedom Task Force to be represented at the LIFT conference, Geneva (Switzerland)

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force (FTF) coordinator, will attend the LIFT conference in Geneva, Switzerland. LIFT is a conference to explore the challenges and opportunities of technology in society. Shane will participate in the 'Legal issues and perspectives' workshop hosted by the Swiss lawfirm BCCC.

SELF in Mumbai, India

During the second leg of the SELF project, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR will organise the second BOARD meeting in Mumbai, India. The issues that will be discussed are related to SELF Support Programme (SSP), Finances and budget, Expert groups, and other strategic plans. The week long meeting comprises of two days workshop sessions, three days board meeting, one day SELF conference and one day for a social event. George Greve and Jonas Oberg, president and vice president of the FSFE, will be part of the Legal Experts Group.
