From December 27 to 30, FSFE will host an assembly during the 33rd Chaos Communication Congress in that we offer a common space to discuss, meet, hack and organise. There will also be several self-organized sessions every day about various aspects of or around Free Software. More details are coming soon. First official meeting of the Milan group. We will brainstorm and put on the table(pad) all possible activities and ideas. Somehow we will come out with some concrete objective and strategy. The meeting starts at: 7p.m. in Boba, Via Rosolino Pilo 9.
On Wednesday, 7 December, the Fellowship group Rhein/Main will meet in the Zentrale Coworking in Frankfurt. FSFE's former vice president Alessandro Rubini will pay us a visit! We will meet there around 19:00 h.
Tomorrow, Tuesday November 29, at 14:15 - 15:30 the FSFE Founding President Georg Greve will participate with a talk in the panel "Free Software: the future for the European institutions", which takes place during the afternoon sessions of DIGITEC 2016 at SQUARE - Brussels Meeting Centre (Room 213-215). Matthias Kirschner, the current FSFE President will be present, too.
The FSFE will be present with a booth in FIfF-Konferenz 2016 – in.visible systems at the Mathematikgebäude TU Berlin (MA), Hörsaal HE101, Workshopraum MA141, from November 25th till the 27th. The Forum InformatikerInnen für Frieden organizes this conference which will cover topics related to hacking, science, politics and activism. The entrance to this event is for free so please join us! We will have some nice merchandise, stickers and promo material, so don't hesitate and come to say hi!!
On Thursday, 24th of December, FSFE executive director Jonas Öberg will participate in a panel about Freedom of Panorama, copyright, openness and democracy in Linköping Sweden. The debate is open to everyone and starts at 18:00 h.
On 23 November, starting at 19:00, Matthias Kirschner will give a talk for the .Net User Group Berlin-Brandenburg, presenting a general overview of the FSFE' s mission and projects. OpenRheinRuhr is a fair and congress about Free Software, happening from 5. to 6. of November in the Rheinischen Industriemuseum in Oberhausen, Germany. On Saturday, November 5, there will be talks by Matthias Kirschner, Max Mehl and Erik Albers. In addition there will be an info booth and the possibility to meet staff and volunteers from the FSFE.
FSFE @ Free Software and Open Access Day at the National Hellenic Research Foundation in Athens, Greece
The GFOSS – Open Technologies Alliance in cooperation with the Enterprise Europe Network-Hellas and the National Documentation Centre are glad to invite you to the "Free Software, Open Access and Entrepreneurship Day" on Wednesday 26/10/2016 at 18:00. The Austrian Team of FSFE is organising an information and trade booth (since our shirts are eco and fairtrade) to inform people about why Software Freedom is essential for digital sustainability and fairness.
On Saturday, September 3rd, we invite for the FSFE birthday party to celebrate 15 years of existence in c-base - the famous hacker space in Berlin, Germany. Opening is directly after the end of Saturday's FSFE summit at 18:00 hours with a warm up and get together. At 20:00 there will be around one hour of program in that we shed light on FSFE's local heroes that keep us growing strong. Afterwards, we start the party with music and drinks - a nice time to revel in the past and look forward to the future.
The first FSFE summit is happening from 2nd to 4th of September. An event for and by our community with three days full of Free Software in three themes: Business / Policy & Community / Beyond Code. Entrance to the FSFE summit also includes entrance to the conferences of Qt developers, KDE Akademy, Videolan and KDAB. FrOSCon is a Free Software conference, organised by the computer science department of the University Bonn-Rhein-Sieg and other local initiatives. Visitors will be offered an exciting program with talks and workshops for visitors of all ages. The FSFE will be present with a booth and two talks by Polina Malaja and Max Mehl. We are looking forward to have a chat with you about Free Software, technology, and politics.

Andrea Mayr-Stalder presents her project TurtleStitch, a platform to generate patterns for embroidery machines. TurtleStitch is based upon Free Software. We will see the production from the pattern to the completed embroidery. And we will learn about parallels of embroidery and programming.
Tübix, an event about Free Software in the Southern German town Tübingen,
opens its doors for the second time on 11 June 2016. Admission is free.

foss-north 2016 in Gothenburg, Sweden
The foss-north conference is a software and hardware related event with a technical perspective, hosted in Gothenburg and providing a meeting place for Nordic foss communities to come together. The FSFE's vice president, Alessandro Rubini, will participate and present a talk on Time in Software and Hardware - how time is handled in the Linux kernel and in the White Rabbit network at CERN, and FSFE's Executive Director, Jonas Öberg, will present a talk about the State of Free Software in Europe (and elsewhere).
Peter Bubestinger, FSFE Austrian coordinator gives a talk at the Open Source Conference Albania (OSCAL) about Free Software in schools. The Conference will take place in Tirana and will gather free libre open source technology users, developers, academics, governmental agencies and people who share the idea that software should be free and open for the local community and governments to develop and customize to its needs.

Matthias Kirschner with Keynote at DORS/CLUC in Zagreb, Croatia: the long way to empower people to control technology
FSFE's president Matthias Kirschner will give a keynote titled "The long way to empower people to control technology" at the DORS / CLUC. The conference's aim is to be a place where academia, businesses and Free Software hackers meet, make new friends. The keynote will be on Wednesday 11 May from 09:45 to 10:30. DORS/CLUC will take place in the premises of the Faculty at Unska 3 address.

On Thursday, May 5, there will be OpenTechSummit 2016 in Berlin, Germany. Open Tech Summit is a conference about technological developments and Free Software. Matthias Kirschner, president of FSFE, gives a talk about "Free Software 1+1: Explaining typical misunderstandings" and FSFE will be present with a booth.
During re:publica Matthias Kirschner will give a short talk about how to counter Free Software misunderstandings. It will be from 14:00 to 14:30 in the newthinking network track. Re:publica takes place in the STATION Berlin, Luckenwalder Str. 4-6, 10963 Berlin. You have to buy tickets to attend the conference.
At the annual event in Graz, lots of presentation talks and information booths offer visitors the possibility to catch up on information about GNU/Linux, Free Software and related projects. The event location is the FH Joanneum. FSFE will be present with an information booth.
Digital self-defence, playing soccer with MBots, Raspberry Music project are the main tracks of the Free Software Event at the Tilburg Library, along with informational stands and many DIY activities. Participants are the FSFE (Digi-Talk Maurice Verheesen), Ubuntu.NL, LibreOffice, NLLGG (Dutch Linux Users Group) and more. DIY activities involve the Raspberry TEdCase 3D-printing, 3D-Virtual Reality and more. Entrance is free. The Event starts at 12.00hrs and ends at 17.00hrs.
At this year's Linuxwochen Wien, FSFE will participate in a few ways. Franz Gratzer, designer for FSFE, will give a talk about the history of the FLOSS game "Trigger Rally" and a workshop of how to design and develop their own race tracks. Simon Hornbachner, local coordinator Linz, will be talking about Copyleft - what it actually means, some common misconceptions and why it isn't only beneficiary for "the community", but also for companies. There will also be a FSFE information booth and the local team is looking forward to everyone to meet!

The FSFE's president Matthias Kirschner will give a talk about the importance of Free Software for society at the Barcelona Free Software Group. The talk will give an overview of FSFE's work from the past 15 years, and give you inspiration how you can work with the FSFE for software freedom as an individual as well as an organisation. The talk will take place at 18:45 at Cibernàrium Edifici MediaTIC, Roc Boronat, 117, Barcelona.
Peter Bubestinger and Till Jaeger from FSFE and others will give insights on how memory institutions and cultural heritage organisations worldwide are increasingly empowered by Free Software licensed tools. This workshop is part of the PREFORMA project, in which 3 format conformance checkers have been developed to check and validate document-, image- and audiovisual files. Topics like format obsolescence, vendor lock-in or interoperability issues of proprietary implementations are being addressed in this workshop.
On March 15th and 16th, there will be a FSFE booth during the Chemnitzer Linux-Tage, an event dedicated to everything about GNU/Linux and Free Software. Just pass by the booth to get to know people from the FSFE as well as other Fellows. The booth will also come with brand new merchandise and promotion material. There will also a talk by Matthias Kirschner, FSFE's President, and one by Max Mehl, FSFE's Germany Coordinator.
On March 11 and 12 FSFE will participate with a booth at the Logan CIJ Symposium, an event organised by Center for Investigative Journalism. Pass by to meet some members of FSFE's Berlin office and discuss how Free Software helps protect freedom of speech and information.

This is our monthly meetup held in the Athens Hackerspace. At this meetup we will discuss mostly around the two recent events that many community members attended. 32c3 at Hamburg and Fosdem at Brussels. We'll talk about new projects we learned about on these events, highlights and best presentations to watch.
This year, FOSDEM will be held on the 30st and 31st of January 2016
in Brussels. FSFE will at least participate with a booth and there will
be many fellows, coordinators and staffers.
As like every year, we're looking forward to many meetings and discussions and also to a very good time for all.
This month, the Vienna Fellowship meeting will be in the Metalab, located in the Rathausstraße 6 in the 1st district of Vienna. It is well known that Android is an Open Source Operating System. But in practice, in order to use it a lot of non-free and locked down platforms are needed, like Google Play. F-Droid aims to fill this gap by offering a free platform that you can use to install and distribute your applications. The session will be provided by Daniel Martí, a lead F-Droid developer.
