This month, the Vienna Fellowship meeting will be in the Metalab, located in the Rathausstraße 6 in the 1st district of Vienna. We'll be there from 18:00, with agenda related discussions starting at 19:00. As usual, this invitation is for everyone interested in the FSFE or Free Software. We're looking forward to seeing you there!
It is time for a new tradition! A Christmas get-together for Fellows and others in Gothenburg, with technical help for all those interested in Free Culture and Free Software. FFKP (Union for Free Culture and Software) and FSFE (Free Software Foundation Europe) invite you to a get-together with glögg (spiced wine), coffee, cookies and cakes. There will also be a presentation of the FFKP and some of the avtivities planned for 2009. Jeremiah Foster will be there as well offering help for GNU/Linux and other Free Software to anyone who needs it.
The local Fellowship group will meet on the 11th of december. The
location is as always the NewThinkingStore at Tucholskystraße. Since
Christmas is almost there, we will do some handicraft to improve our
booth material and the flyer for our projects.
Our are welcome to join us for a cup of tea and some cookies.
FSFE will be holding its regular Zurich Fellowship group meeting next Thursday, 11th December at 18:00 CET. We'll also be celebrating the upcoming holiday season with Glühwein (mulled wine) and other goodies! We hope to see you there. There will be a Fellowship meeting at the FSFE Zurich office from 18:00 until 19:00 on Friday the 21st of November. Some free (as in beer) beer will be provided and all Fellows nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, to discuss ways of spreading the word about Free Software in Switzerland, and to generally have a good time. On Tuesday, 18th november at 19.00 h again all fellows and people who want to support FSFE or simply want to inform about Free Software will gather at the Fellowship Meeting in Hallmackenreuther, Brüsseler Platz, Cologne.
On Saturday, 15th November at 14:00 h there will be a Fellowship meeting at the TIS Innovation Park of Bolzano. The meeting is open to Fellows and all persons interested in FSFE's work in Italy and the projects of the Fellowship. The meeting has two parts. First Patrick Ohnewein, coordinator of the Italian FSFE group, will talk about the activities of the FSFE and the Fellowship in Italy. In the second part the Fellows will be invited to make proposals for and discuss about future initiatives to promote and help Free Software.

Nous parlerons, entre autres de : revue du BLIT, reportage sur FSCONS, "Comment pouvons nous agir sur le plan du Logiciel Libre et de l'Education ?" et les plans pour 2009. Le jeudi 6 novembre la FSFE participera à la conférence NLUUG d'automne. Le thème de cette année est la mobilité. Nous accueillerons avec plaisir les visiteurs sur notre stand et répondrons volontiers à leurs questions sur le Logiciel Libre. Le lendemain, vendredi 7 novembre, au même endroit, Shane Coughlan, coordinateur de la 'Freedom Task Force' de la FSFE, fera également un exposé intitulé "The strategic implementation of free software in business" («Implémentations stratégiques de Logiciels Libres en entreprise», présentation en anglais) à l'occasion de la CELF, la conférence européenne sur Linux embarqué. La réalisation réussie d'un Logiciel Libre nécessite une bonne compréhension des politiques et processus les plus adaptés à son contexte. Shane expliquera comment la FSFE, à travers son projet juridique et son réseau juridique européen, contribue à cela en produisant des connaissances commerciales génériques sur les contrats de fourniture et d'acquisition, les documents de travail et les méthodologies de déploiement. Les deux conférences ont lieu à l'Hôtel - Centre de congrès «De Reehorst», Ede, Pays Bas.
FSFE will be present with a booth at this years Brandenburger Linux Info Tag (BLIT). The Fellowship Group Berlin will man a booth to inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software. Also T-shirts and books about Free Software will be sold. The event starts at 10 am and takes place at the University Campus Griebnitzsee in Potsdam. Admission is free as in free beer.

Pour l'édition 2008 FSCONS est le fruit d'une coopération entre la FSFE, Creative Commons, et Wikimedia Suède. Il y aura trois sessions (Culture Libre, Logiciel Libre et Contenus Libres), chacune animée par l'un des principaux organisateurs. Les thèmes iront de la conception des noyaux récents au journalisme citoyen en passant par les licences du 21ème siècle.
OpenOffice.org et la FSFE accueilleront simultanément la table ronde
de OpenOffice.org et la première réunion de Fellowship à Munich. Cela
aura lieu au Augustinerkeller, Arnulfstraße, Munich

Ce sera une excellente occasion de se rencontrer en personne, de discuter les moyens de répandre en Suisse la bonne parole au sujet du Logiciel Libre et, plus généralement, de prendre du bon temps. A Belgian Fellowship meeting will take place on Thursday August 7th in Brussels. We will meet at 20:00 in Café Walvis, 209 rue Antoine Dansaert, Brussels. It's an informal meeting, like the last meeting, so we'll mostly chat about whatever Free Software topics the attendees are interested in. We'll also continue the discussion of how to launch quarterly meetings, and Ciaran O'Riordan will give an update on OpenStreetMap. This meeting can be discussed on FSFE's Benelux mailinglist.

Le réseau juridique européen - que la Freedom Task Force de la FSFE aide - tiendra une réunion d'un groupe de travail spécifique à Bruxelles afin de discuter des brevets logiciels et d'autres problématiques légales. Cette réunion aura lieu à l'étude juridique Wilmer Hale. Participation sur invitation seulement.
Le projet GNU aura 25 ans le 27 septembre. A cette occasion on fera sauter les bouchons à la porte de Brandebourg à Berlin. On se retrouvera à 15h00. Il y aura du champagne et de la musique pour fêter l'évènement. A dimanche.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a keynote speech at the Dutch Software Freedom Day event at Liefland College, Utrecht. The event will run from 10:00 until 17:00 and is organised by NLLGG, NLUUG and SoftwareFreedomDay.eu.

The European Legal Network facilitated by FSFE's Freedom Task Force will hold a special interest group meeting in London to discuss business processes and supply chain management. This meeting will be hosted at the Canonical offices and is invitation only.
Shane Coughlan, FTF coordinator, will explain Free Software and the reasons behind Free Software licences at the OSS 2008 conference in Milan. He will sit on the 'NESSI Open Source Working Group' panel to discuss the European NESSI project.
La braderie de Lille est un grand évènement qui se déroule en plein air pendant le premier week-end de septembre. chtinux, un groupe d'utilisateurs Linux de Lille a proposé à la Fellowship de participer à la Braderie. The Vienna Fellowship Group invites to a speech of Shane Martin Coughlan about "The Professionalisation of Free Software. Where we are going next." (in Englisch). The event which is organised in the context of a q/talk special takes place in Room D / quartier21, QDK / Electric Avenue, MQ Wien on 5 September 2008, starting at 20:00. Entrance is from 19:00. The speech will be finished around 21:15, after that there will be opportunity to ask questions. Admission is free.
At 18:30 on 30 August 2008, Duesseldorf Fellowship will meet in Gasttaette "Suedstern", Bilker Allee 66, 40219 Duesseldorf (5 min vom S-Bahnhof Bilk). Shane M. A lunch for Fellows of FSFE and Free Software friends in Barcelona from 14:00 until 16:00 with FSFE's Georg Greve, Jonas Öberg and Shane Coughlan. The meeting will be for informal and friendly discussions about FSFE, the Fellowship, the work of the Freedom Task Force, and everything else that you want to contribute to the discussion. Shane will talk about the types of licence that provide and protect freedoms of use, study, sharing and improvement in both technology and educational text. He will review the main challenges that platforms like SELF may encounter from the legal point of view and what kind of mechanisms help support reliable legal infrastructure. He will also discuss the work of FSFE's Freedom Task Force in providing education and support services relating to legal support for Free Software in Europe.
SELF has contributed on various levels to freedom in software and education. The work of the SELF Legal Experts Group (LEG) has helped to evolve a better understanding of Open Standards and provided a reference line for free educational materials. The coordinator of the SELF LEG, FSFE president Georg Greve, will provide an insight on how SELF has helped advance the state of the art, and how the work done in the SELF consortium will provide lasting benefit to the Free Software community.
The local Fellowship group in Berlin will have a joined barbecue with the FFII on the 10th of July. The meeting will start at 7:30pm in FFII office, which is located at the Malmöer Straße 6 close to Bornholmer Straße. Don't forget to bring you favourite barbecue stuff. If the weather permits, we will go to the Mauerpark at around 9pm. We love to welcome you there.

Shane Coughlan will represent FSFE's FTF at IOTC 2008 in Dublin, Ireland. He will deliver a speech to open the conference on Wednesday the 18th of June discussing Free Software in business. Other speakers include Graham Taylor from Open Forum Europe, Adam Jollans from IBM and Stephen McGibbon from Microsoft. Interesting discussions and debates are assured.

This year's General Assembly of FSFE takes place in Zurich, and as usual,
there will be a social event where the members of the General Assembly
meet Fellows and other local Free Software supporters.
Around 18:20 the crowd will leave from the FSFE office at
Sumatrastrasse 25
and walk through the old town in direction to Bellview.
At 19:00 we will catch a
ferry
from
Zurich Burkiplatz.
At 19:47 the ferry will arrive in Erlenbach where -- due to the weather
conditions -- we will continue the evening with a nice dinner at the
Restaurant Malabar Garden in Kuesnacht
where we expect to be until at least 23:00.
On Saturday 31th May 14-15 pm, Matthias Kirschner will give a speech at Linuxtag in Berlin. The talk is about the importance of the four freedoms to use, study, share and improve software and their influence in politics and economy. Target audience are beginners, or people who want to get some ideas how to explain this topic to beginners. The speech takes place at the BusinessForum (EG) and will be held in German.

Comme les années passées, la FSFE sera présente avec un stand à LinuxTag 2008 qui se déroule au centre des exposotions de Berlin sous la Funkturm. La FSFE informera les visiteurs sur des aspects variés des Logiciels Libres, comme la Freedom Task Force, les brevets logiciels, le projet SELF, la GPLv3, notre travail aux Nations Unies, ou encore la Fellowship de la FSFE. Il est également prévu de vendre des T-shirts de la FSFE et des livres sur les Logiciels Libres.
La vingt-deuxième rencontre de la fellowship autrichienne sera intégére aux évènements de la Linuxwochen de Vienne. Les Fellows et autres personnes intéressées pourront se rencontrer au stand de la FSFE pendant tout l'évènement pour discuter, et se joindre le dernier jour de l'évènement à l'After-Show-Party.
Du 15 au 17 mai, un évènement de la Linuxwochen en Autriche se tiendra dans le bâtiment de la Chambre du Commerce autrichienne, 1 place Rudolf Sallinger, 3ème district, Vienne.
Un groupe de Fellows sera présent avec un stand sur lequel ils informeront sur la FSFE, la Fellowship et les Logiciels Libres en général.

On Saturday 19 April 2008 at 12:00, Reinhard Müller gives a speech about
open standards and free document formats at Linuxwochen event at the
University of Applied Sciences "Johanneum" in Graz.
The FSFE also has a booth at the event where it informs about its work
and about Free Software in general.
Admission is free for the whole event.
The twenty-first Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place at the Linuxtag in Graz. Fellows and other interested people can meet at the FSFE booth during the whole event to discuss, and after the end of the event we will surely find some location where we can have some beer together :-)

FSFE's Freedom Task Force will host the first European Licensing and Legal Workshop for Free Software on Friday the 11th of April in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The venue for this meeting is the InterContinental Amstel Hotel. The event is targeted towards large projects and medium to large enterprises wishing to discuss their existing licence compliance processes. Parties attending are expected to contribute to issues ranging from process development through to optimising purchasing contract language for the benefit of the European Free Software community. This workshop has limited space available and therefore attendance is by invitation only. Projects and companies interested in attending this event should contact the FTF at contact@fsfe.org.
On the 2nd of April FSFE and its Freedom Task Force (FTF) will give a course on the Strategic implementation of Free Software in Business in collaboration with the Internet Academy. The course will take place in Stockholm, Sweden. Those wishing to come should register their interest beforehand through the FTF contact form.
Friday, 29 March, the first Fellowship meeting in Augsburg will take
place.
We are going to meet in the "Thing" bar, Vorderer Lech 45, 86150
Augsburg, right after the GNU/Linux infoday Augsburg. We expect to be
there around 18:30.
Anybody who does not know Augsburg very well or is at the GNU/Linux
infoday anyway can just come to the FSFE booth at the end of the event,
we can then go to the meeting together.
Shane Coughlan, FTF coordinator, will deliver a training course to introduce people to Free Software licensing concepts on Friday the 21st of March. The course will be delivered between 13:00-16:00 at the FSFE Zurich office. There is no cost to attend this course, but due to limited space all those wishing to come should register their interest beforehand through the FTF contact form.

Vienna. We meet around 18:00 in the Library Room at the Metalab,
Rathausstraße 6, first district. The "official" agenda will start at
19:00.
The main topic of the meeting will be the preparation of the Document
Freedom Day.

Shane Coughlan, FTF coordinator, will deliver a speech entitled 'Analysing Whether GPLv3 Has Improved Free Software Licensing' at OSiM USA on Tuesday the 12th of March in San Francisco. The speech will cover topics ranging from the creation of GPLv3 and its place in licensing through to examining the place of GPLv3 in tomorrow's market.

Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of FSFE's Freedom Task Force, will deliver the keynote speech at Chemnitzer Linux-Tagen at 13:00 on the 1st of March. The title of the keynote is 'Free Software in the ICT mainstream' on issues ranging from licensing through to Free Software on the desktop.
Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of FSFE's Freedom Task Force, will host a breakout session discussing licensing issues at the "Standards and the Future of the Internet" conference in Geneva, Switzerland, on the 26th of February. The conference will be held at the International Conference Centre and confirmed speakers include Vint Cerf, Carlo Piana, Thomas Vinje and Jeremy Allison.
FSFE attends FOSDEM, a European Free Software developer conference
organized by volunteers wich takes place from 23rd - 24th of February
in Brussels (Belgium).
The event promotes the widespread use of Free Software, to provide
Free Software developers and communities a place to meet, to get in
touch with other projects, and to promote the development and the
benefits of Free Software solutions.
The FSFE will attend the event with a booth where visitors will be
informed about recent activities, Free Software itself and the
Fellowship of the FSFE. As usual, the FSFE's famous T-Shirts will
be sold as well.

On Monday 18. February at 19:00 Richard M. Stallman, founder of the GNU project and the FSF, will give a speech at the mediacentre - Atrium, Johannisstrasse 20, in 10117 Berlin-Mitte. He will talk about the history and philosophy of Free Software. The Berlin Fellowship group will have a small booth there and inform visitors about the local groupd and FSFE's work in Germany and Europe. Admission starts at 18:30. The organisers suggest a donation of ~5 EUR to cover the costs.

The SELF project, of which FSFE is a member, together with Internet Society Bulgaria, the French Cultural Institute and Linux for Bulgarians, are organising an international conference on Science, Education and Learning in Freedom on the 10th of February at the French Cultural Institute in Sofia, 2 Dyakon Ignatij Str., Sofia, Bulgaria.
Jonas Öberg, vice president of the FSFE, will give a talk entitled "How to do procurement of Free Software: the Swedish Example" during an event in Sofia, Bulgaria, on municipalities use of ICT. The event takes place at the Sheraton hotel on the 7th of february.
