Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a two day course entitled 'Free Software licenses and other questions' at the Digicomp Academy Zurich, Switzerland. The course is intended for project managers, developers and technicians who wish to become more knowledgeable regarding code distribution options.
This month, the Vienna Fellowship meeting will be in the Metalab, located in the Rathausstraße 6 in the 1st district of Vienna. We'll be there from 18:00, with agenda related discussions starting at 19:00. As usual, this invitation is for everyone interested in the FSFE or Free Software. We're looking forward to seeing you there!
It is time for a new tradition! A Christmas get-together for Fellows and others in Gothenburg, with technical help for all those interested in Free Culture and Free Software. FFKP (Union for Free Culture and Software) and FSFE (Free Software Foundation Europe) invite you to a get-together with glögg (spiced wine), coffee, cookies and cakes. There will also be a presentation of the FFKP and some of the avtivities planned for 2009. Jeremiah Foster will be there as well offering help for GNU/Linux and other Free Software to anyone who needs it.
The local Fellowship group will meet on the 11th of december. The
location is as always the NewThinkingStore at Tucholskystraße. Since
Christmas is almost there, we will do some handicraft to improve our
booth material and the flyer for our projects.
Our are welcome to join us for a cup of tea and some cookies.
FSFE will be holding its regular Zurich Fellowship group meeting next Thursday, 11th December at 18:00 CET. We'll also be celebrating the upcoming holiday season with Glühwein (mulled wine) and other goodies! We hope to see you there. Sabato 15 novembre, dalle 14:00 in poi, presso il TIS Innovation Park di Bolzano, si svolgerà un incontro rivolto ai Fellow italiani e alle persone interessate ai temi come la presenza in Italia di FSFE ed il progetto della Fellowship. L'incontro è diviso in due parti. Nella prima, Patrick Ohnewein, coordinatore del gruppo italiano di FSFE, parlerà di FSFE in Italia e della Fellowship. Nella seconda parte, i Fellow sono invitati a discutere e proporre delle iniziative da portare avanti con l'aiuto degli altri Fellow, in favore del Software Libero.
L'incontro mensile della Fellowship si terrà il 13 novembre. Ci incontreremo alle 19:30 presso il NewThinking store in Berlin-Mitte (Tucholskystraße 48). The FSFE will be attending the NLUUG Autumn Conference on Thursday 6th November. This year's theme is 'mobility'. Feel free to come to our booth and ask about Free Software! Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will also deliver talk entitled 'The strategic implementation of free software in business' at the CELF Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2008 at the same location on the following day, Friday 7th November. The successful implementation of Free Software requires an understanding of the best policy and processes applicable to its context. Shane will discuss how FSFE's legal project and its European Legal Network have engaged with this issue by producing generic market knowledge for supply and purchasing contracts, work flow documents and deployment methodology. The location for both conferences is Hotel en Congrescentrum De Reehorst, Ede, Netherlands.
FSFE will be present with a booth at this years Brandenburger Linux Info Tag (BLIT). The Fellowship Group Berlin will man a booth to inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software. Also T-shirts and books about Free Software will be sold. The event starts at 10 am and takes place at the University Campus Griebnitzsee in Potsdam. Admission is free as in free beer.
Fellow Christof Raber will host a Fellowship meeting at Weltehof, Welte 1, 88250 Weingarten on Tuesday the 28th of October at 19:00. All Fellows and Free Software supporters nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, discuss all Free Software and FSFE related topics and to generally have a good time.
For 2008, FSCONS is a collaboration of FSFE, Creative Commons, and Wikimedia Sweden. There will be three tracks (Free Culture, Free Software, Free Content), each lead by one of the main organisers. Topics will range from modern kernel design over citizen journalism all the way across to licensing in the 21st century.
On Wednesday the 22th of October at 19:00 OpenOffice.org and FSFE
will host together the OpenOffice.org regulars' table and the first
Fellowship meeting in Munich, Germany.
It will take place at the Augustinerkeller, Arnulfstraße, Munich

All Fellows and Free Software supporters nearby are invited to
attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person,
discuss all Free Software and FSFE related topics and to generally

From 21. October to 24. October the SYSTEMS will take place in Munich,
Germany. SYSTEMS is a professional business-to-business exhibition for
the ICT market and addresses business and technical decision-makers in
commercial enterprises and the public sector.

It's an informal meeting, like the last meeting, so we'll mostly chat about whatever Free Software topics the attendees are interested in. We'll also continue the discussion of how to launch quarterly meetings, and Ciaran O'Riordan will give an update on OpenStreetMap. This meeting can be discussed on FSFE's Benelux mailinglist.

The European Legal Network facilitated by FSFE's Freedom Task Force will hold a special interest group meeting in Brussels to discuss software patents and other legal issues. This meeting will be hosted at the Wilmer Hale law offices and is invitation only.
The GNU-project is turning 25 on the 27th of September. Therefore we will pop the corks at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. We will meet at 3pm. There will be champaign and some music to celebrate. See you on saturday.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a keynote speech at the Dutch Software Freedom Day event at Liefland College, Utrecht. The event will run from 10:00 until 17:00 and is organised by NLLGG, NLUUG and SoftwareFreedomDay.eu.
Starting at 8pm, Vienna's Fellows celebrate the annual "Software Freedom Day" in a Pub called Pint Pub in Vienna. Highlight of the event will be the performances of the bands: "Club Valat" and "Klaus (from Fadin' to Whiteout)". Of course this event is also for non-computerfreaks.
On Saturday 20. September starting at 14:00 FFII and FSFE's Fellowship group from Berlin will have barbecue and an information booth. At the booth we will explain what Free Software is and why it is important for society. This event should give beginners a chance to get in contact with Free Software, GNU/Linux and the involved groups. The so-called "Braderie de Lille" (Lille's flea market) is a big outside-event which has taken place every year since the 12th century during the first week-end of september. chtinux, a Linux User Group which is installed around there, has proposed to the Fellowship to take part in the Braderie. The FSFE, and especially the Fellowship's stand, will get much visibility, since millions of people of numerous nations take a walk on Lille's streets. Come to discover this beautiful city and to eat some Braderie's culinary specialities like clams ! And above all, come in order to support the Fellowship ! The Vienna Fellowship Group invites to a speech of Shane Martin Coughlan about "The Professionalisation of Free Software. Where we are going next." (in Englisch). The event which is organised in the context of a q/talk special takes place in Room D / quartier21, QDK / Electric Avenue, MQ Wien on 5 September 2008, starting at 20:00. Entrance is from 19:00. A lunch for Fellows of FSFE and Free Software friends in Barcelona from 14:00 until 16:00 with FSFE's Georg Greve, Jonas Öberg and Shane Coughlan. Shane will talk about the types of licence that provide and protect freedoms of use, study, sharing and improvement in both technology and educational text. He will review the main challenges that platforms like SELF may encounter from the legal point of view and what kind of mechanisms help support reliable legal infrastructure. He will also discuss the work of FSFE's Freedom Task Force in providing education and support services relating to legal support for Free Software in Europe.
SELF has contributed on various levels to freedom in software and education. The work of the SELF Legal Experts Group (LEG) has helped to evolve a better understanding of Open Standards and provided a reference line for free educational materials. The coordinator of the SELF LEG, FSFE president Georg Greve, will provide an insight on how SELF has helped advance the state of the art, and how the work done in the SELF consortium will provide lasting benefit to the Free Software community.
The local Fellowship group in Berlin will have a joined barbecue with the FFII on the 10th of July. The meeting will start at 7:30pm in FFII office, which is located at the Malmöer Straße 6 close to Bornholmer Straße. Don't forget to bring you favourite barbecue stuff. Shane Coughlan will represent FSFE's FTF at IOTC 2008 in Dublin, Ireland. He will deliver a speech to open the conference on Wednesday the 18th of June discussing Free Software in business. where we expect to be until at least 23:00.
On Saturday 31th May 14-15 pm, Matthias Kirschner will give a speech at Linuxtag in Berlin. The talk is about the importance of the four freedoms to use, study, share and improve software and their influence in politics and economy. Target audience are beginners, or people who want to get some ideas how to explain this topic to beginners. The speech takes place at the BusinessForum (EG) and will be held in German.

On Tuesday 15 April 2008 at 16:15, Reinhard Müller gives a speech about
open standards and free document formats at a Linuxwochen event at the
Danube University Krems.
The FSFE also has a booth at the event where it informs about its work
and about Free Software in general.
Admission is free for the whole event.
FSFE's Freedom Task Force will host the first European Licensing and Legal Workshop for Free Software on Friday the 11th of April in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The venue for this meeting is the InterContinental Amstel Hotel. The event is targeted towards large projects and medium to large enterprises wishing to discuss their existing licence compliance processes. Parties attending are expected to contribute to issues ranging from process development through to optimising purchasing contract language for the benefit of the European Free Software community. This workshop has limited space available and therefore attendance is by invitation only. Projects and companies interested in attending this event should contact the FTF at contact@fsfe.org.
On the 2nd of April FSFE and its Freedom Task Force (FTF) will give a course on the Strategic implementation of Free Software in Business in collaboration with the Internet Academy. The course will take place in Stockholm, Sweden. Those wishing to come should register their interest beforehand through the FTF contact form.
Friday, 29 March, the first Fellowship meeting in Augsburg will take
place.
We are going to meet in the "Thing" bar, Vorderer Lech 45, 86150
Augsburg, right after the GNU/Linux infoday Augsburg. We expect to be
there around 18:30.
Anybody who does not know Augsburg very well or is at the GNU/Linux
infoday anyway can just come to the FSFE booth at the end of the event,
we can then go to the meeting together.

The course will be delivered between 13:00-16:00 at the FSFE Zurich office. The twentieth Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place on 14 March in
Vienna. We meet around 18:00 in the Library Room at the Metalab,
Rathausstraße 6, first district. The "official" agenda will start at
19:00.
The main topic of the meeting will be the preparation of the Document
Freedom Day.

Shane Coughlan, FTF coordinator, will deliver a speech entitled 'Analysing Whether GPLv3 Has Improved Free Software Licensing' at OSiM USA on Tuesday the 12th of March in San Francisco. The speech will cover topics ranging from the creation of GPLv3 and its place in licensing through to examining the place of GPLv3 in tomorrow's market.

Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of FSFE's Freedom Task Force, will deliver the keynote speech at Chemnitzer Linux-Tagen at 13:00 on the 1st of March. The title of the keynote is 'Free Software in the ICT mainstream' on issues ranging from licensing through to Free Software on the desktop.

FSFE partecipa a FOSDEM, una conferenza europea degli sviluppatori di Software Libero
organizzata da volontari e in programma dal 23 al 24 di Febbraio
a Bruxelles (Belgio).
L'evento promuove la diffusione del Software Libero, e si propone di fornire
agli sviluppatori e alle comunità del Software Libero un luogo per conoscersi,
entrare in contatto con altri progetti, e promuovere lo sviluppo e i benefici
delle soluzioni basate sul Software Libero.
La FSFE parteciperà all'evento con uno stand dove i visitatori potranno
informarsi sulle recenti attività, sul Software Libero e sulla
Fellowship della FSFE. Come sempre, saranno vendute le famose T-Shirt
di FSFE.

Lunedì 18 febbraio alle 19:00, Richard M. Stallman, fondatore del progetto GNU e della FSF, terrà un discorso presso il mediacentre - Atrium, Johannisstrasse 20, in 10117 Berlin-Mitte. Parlerà della storia e della filosofia del Software Libero. Il gruppo della Fellwoship di Berlino avrà un piccolo stand e informerà gli ospiti sui gruppi locali e sulle attività di FSFE in Germania e in Europa. L'ingresso apre alle 18:30. Il costo d'entrata è 5 EUR.

Il progetto SELF, del quale FSFE è membro, insieme a Internet Society Bulgaria, l'Istituto Culturale Francese e Linux for Bulgarians, sta organizzando una conferenza internazionale su Science, Education and Learning in Freedom il 10 Febbraio presso l'Istituto Culturale Francese di Sofia, 2 Dyakon Ignatij Str., Sofia, Bulgaria.
Jonas Öberg, vicepresidente della FSFE, terrà un discorso intitolato "Come procurarsi il Software Libero: l'esempio svedese" nel corso di un evento a Sofia, Bulgaria, sull'uso dell'ICT da parte delle municipalità. L'evento si svolgerà allo Sheraton hotel il 7 Febbraio.
