Es wird Zeit für eine neue Tradition! Ein Weihnachtstreffen für Fellows und andere in Göteborg, mit technischer Hilfe für alle, die in Freier Kultur und Freier Software interessiert sind. Die FFKP (Union für freie Kultur und Software) und die FSFE laden dich zu einem Treffen mit Glögg (Punsch), Kaffee, Keksen und Kuchen ein. Es gibt auch eine Präsentation der FFKP und einiger der für 2009 geplanten Aktivitäten. Jeremiah Foster wird auch dasein, um Hilfe für GNU/Linux und andere Freie Software für jeden, der es benötigt, anzubieten.
Am 11.12. um 19:30 trifft sich die Berliner Fellowshipgruppe im
NewthinkingStore in der Tucholskystraße. Da Weihnachten naht, werden
wir eine gemütliche gemeinsame Bastelrunde veranstalten und dabei
unser Standmaterial und unsere Kampagnen verbessern.

Am 21. November wird zwischen 18Uhr und 19Uhr ein Fellowship-Treffen im Büro der FSFE in Zürich stattfinden. Für Freibier ist gesorgt und es sind alle Fellows aus der Umgebung eingeladen. On Saturday, 15th November at 14:00 h there will be a Fellowship meeting at the TIS Innovation Park of Bolzano. The meeting is open to Fellows and all persons interested in FSFE's work in Italy and the projects of the Fellowship. The meeting has two parts. First Patrick Ohnewein, coordinator of the Italian FSFE group, will talk about the activities of the FSFE and the Fellowship in Italy. In the second part the Fellows will be invited to make proposals for and discuss about future initiatives to promote and help Free Software.

The FSFE will be attending the NLUUG Autumn Conference on Thursday 6th November. This year's theme is 'mobility'. Feel free to come to our booth and ask about Free Software! Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will also deliver talk entitled 'The strategic implementation of free software in business' at the CELF Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2008 at the same location on the following day, Friday 7th November. The successful implementation of Free Software requires an understanding of the best policy and processes applicable to its context. Shane will discuss how FSFE's legal project and its European Legal Network have engaged with this issue by producing generic market knowledge for supply and purchasing contracts, work flow documents and deployment methodology. The location for both conferences is Hotel en Congrescentrum De Reehorst, Ede, Netherlands.
FSFE will be present with a booth at this years Brandenburger Linux Info Tag (BLIT). The Fellowship Group Berlin will man a booth to inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software. Also T-shirts and books about Free Software will be sold. The event starts at 10 am and takes place at the University Campus Griebnitzsee in Potsdam. Admission is free as in free beer.

Das Treffen bietet eine gute Gelegenheit sich untereinander kennen zu lernen und sich über alle Themen der FSFE und der Freien Software Welt auszutauschen.
For 2008, FSCONS is a collaboration of FSFE, Creative Commons, and Wikimedia Sweden. There will be three tracks (Free Culture, Free Software, Free Content), each lead by one of the main organisers. Topics will range from modern kernel design over citizen journalism all the way across to licensing in the 21st century.

Die FSFE wird dieses Jahr zum ersten Mal mit einem Stand vertreten sein.

There will be a Fellowship meeting at the FSFE Zurich office from 19:00 until 20:30 on Friday the 10th of October. Some free (as in beer) beer will be provided and all Fellows nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, to discuss ways of spreading the word about Free Software in Switzerland, and to generally have a good time. The Fellowship Group in Berlin will meet on the 10th October at 19:30. We will evaluate past actions like 25 years GNU and Software Freedom Day. For the future we will plan our attendance at the BLIT and talk about the pdfreaders campaign. The Location is as usual the New Thinking Store, Tucholsky Strasse.
A Belgian Fellowship meeting will take place on Thursday August 7th in Brussels. We will meet at 20:00 in Café Walvis, 209 rue Antoine Dansaert, Brussels. It's an informal meeting, like the last meeting, so we'll mostly chat about whatever Free Software topics the attendees are interested in. We'll also continue the discussion of how to launch quarterly meetings, and Ciaran O'Riordan will give an update on OpenStreetMap. This meeting can be discussed on FSFE's Benelux mailinglist.

Ab 20 Uhr feiern die Wiener Fellows den alljährlichen "Software Freedom Day" im Pint Pub in Wien.

Jahrhundert jedes Jahr am ersten Septemberwochenende stattfindet. chtinux, eine regionale Linux-User-Group, hat dem Fellowship der FSFE eine Teilnahme vorgeschlagen. A lunch for Fellows of FSFE and Free Software friends in Barcelona from 14:00 until 16:00 with FSFE's Georg Greve, Jonas Öberg and Shane Coughlan. The meeting will be for informal and friendly discussions about FSFE, the Fellowship, the work of the Freedom Task Force, and everything else that you want to contribute to the discussion. Shane will talk about the types of licence that provide and protect freedoms of use, study, sharing and improvement in both technology and educational text. He will review the main challenges that platforms like SELF may encounter from the legal point of view and what kind of mechanisms help support reliable legal infrastructure. He will also discuss the work of FSFE's Freedom Task Force in providing education and support services relating to legal support for Free Software in Europe.
SELF has contributed on various levels to freedom in software and education. The work of the SELF Legal Experts Group (LEG) has helped to evolve a better understanding of Open Standards and provided a reference line for free educational materials. The coordinator of the SELF LEG, FSFE president Georg Greve, will provide an insight on how SELF has helped advance the state of the art, and how the work done in the SELF consortium will provide lasting benefit to the Free Software community.

Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a speech entitled 'The Community and Meeting Obligations' for BT at 14:30 on the 2nd of July at Adastral Park in Ipswitch, UK. A local Fellowship meeting will be held in Dublin on June 24th. Everyone interested in Free Software is welcome and invited to meet inside The White Horse at 20h00. This will also be the monthly meeting of Irish Free Software Organisation. Expected topics include OOXML, software patents, gNewSense, and the Fellowship. Shane Coughlan will represent FSFE's FTF at IOTC 2008 in Dublin, Ireland. He will deliver a speech to open the conference on Wednesday the 18th of June discussing Free Software in business. Other speakers include Graham Taylor from Open Forum Europe, Adam Jollans from IBM and Stephen McGibbon from Microsoft. Interesting discussions and debates are assured.

This year's General Assembly of FSFE takes place in Zurich, and as usual,
there will be a social event where the members of the General Assembly
meet Fellows and other local Free Software supporters.
Around 18:20 the crowd will leave from the FSFE office at
Sumatrastrasse 25
and walk through the old town in direction to Bellview.
At 19:00 we will catch a
ferry
from
Zurich Burkiplatz.
At 19:47 the ferry will arrive in Erlenbach where -- due to the weather
conditions -- we will continue the evening with a nice dinner at the
Restaurant Malabar Garden in Kuesnacht
where we expect to be until at least 23:00.
On Saturday 31th May 14-15 pm, Matthias Kirschner will give a speech at Linuxtag in Berlin. The talk is about the importance of the four freedoms to use, study, share and improve software and their influence in politics and economy. Target audience are beginners, or people who want to get some ideas how to explain this topic to beginners. The speech takes place at the BusinessForum (EG) and will be held in German.
The second eLiberatica takes place on 30 and 31 May 2008 in the World
Trade Center Bucharest, Romania.
Following the huge public success the first edition of eLiberatica gained
in 2007, the second edition will continue in the same tradition: to
gather community and business leaders around the world to talk about the
hottest Open and Free Technologies topics.

As in the last years FSFE will be present with a booth (hall 7.2b, booth 122) at LinuxTag 2008. It takes place at Berlin's Expo Center under the Funkturm. FSFE will inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software, like the Freedom Task Force, software patents, the SELF project, GPLv3, our work in the United Nations, or the Fellowship of FSFE. Also it is planned to sell T-shirts from FSFE and books about Free Software.

Am Donnerstag, dem 8. Mai um 19:30 Uhr findet der zweite Teil zu Freie Software und Verschlüsselung statt. Markus Heuser wird hier noch einmal kurz wiederholen, auf was bei der Durchführung einer Key-Signing-Party geachtet werden muss. Gegebenenfalls werden noch einige Punkte des letzten Treffens vertieft um anschließend unter den Anwesenden gegenseitig die Schlüssel zu signieren. Danach wird genug Zeit sein, allgemeine Themen, in geselliger Runde zu diskutieren. Das Treffen findet wie immer im Newthinking Store, Tucholskystr. 48 in 10117 Berlin statt.

FSFE's Freedom Task Force will host the first European Licensing and Legal Workshop for Free Software on Friday the 11th of April in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The venue for this meeting is the InterContinental Amstel Hotel. The event is targeted towards large projects and medium to large enterprises wishing to discuss their existing licence compliance processes. Parties attending are expected to contribute to issues ranging from process development through to optimising purchasing contract language for the benefit of the European Free Software community. This workshop has limited space available and therefore attendance is by invitation only. Projects and companies interested in attending this event should contact the FTF at contact@fsfe.org.
Am Donnerstag dem 10. April um 19:30 Uhr treffen sich Fellows und Freunde Freier Software in Berlin zum nächsten Fellowship-Treffen. In den ersten 45 Minuten hält Thilo Fromm einen einsteigerfreundlichen Vortrag über die Grundlagen der modernen Kryptografie. Im zweiten Teil wird Markus Heuser einen Überblick über die Geschichte und Funktionen von GnuPG, dem Standard-GNU-Programm für Verschlüsselung, geben. Insbesondere die Generierung von Schlüsselpaaren und Signierung derselbigen auf sog. Key-Signing-Parties für den vertrauensvollen Gebrauch werden dargestellt und Vorbereitungen für die praktische Durchführung (siehe nächstes Fellowship-Treffen) getroffen. Es werden keine speziellen mathematischen oder kryptografischen Kenntnisse vorausgesetzt. Das Treffen findet im Newthinking Store, Tucholskystr. 48 in 10117 Berlin statt.
On the 2nd of April FSFE and its Freedom Task Force (FTF) will give a course on the Strategic implementation of Free Software in Business in collaboration with the Internet Academy. The course will take place in Stockholm, Sweden. Those wishing to come should register their interest beforehand through the FTF contact form.
Am Freitag, den 29. März wird das erste Augsburger Fellowship-Treffen
stattfinden.
Dazu werden wir uns im Anschluss des Augsburger GNU/Linux Tag im Thing,
Vorderer Lech 45, 86150 Augsburg treffen. Ich gehe davon aus, dass wir
dort spätestens gegen 18:30 Uhr anzutreffen sein werden.
Sollte man sich in Augsburg nicht auskennen oder sowieso auf dem
GNU/Linux Tag sein, dann kann man sich auch gegen Ende der Veranstaltung
mit uns am Stand der FSFE treffen. Wir werden dann gemeinsam zu
Fellowship-Treffen gehen.
Am 26. März um 11 Uhr ehrt die Berliner DFD Gruppe Außenminister Steinmeier aufgrund seiner Arbeit für Offene Standards. Die FSFE, vertreten durch die Berliner Fellowship-Gruppe, und FFII Berlin sowie weitere Freunde Offener Standards treffen sich hierzu um 10:40 Uhr am Haupteingang des Auswärtigen Amtes, Werderscher Markt 1 in 10117 Berlin.

The speech will cover topics ranging from the creation of GPLv3 and its place in licensing through to examining the place of GPLv3 in tomorrow's market.

Danach wird noch genügend Zeit für allgemeine Diskussionen und Fragen rund um Freie Software bleiben. Das SELF Projekt, zu dessen Mitgliedern die FSFE zählt, organisiert zusammen mit der Internet Gesellschaft Bulgarien, dem Französischen Kulturinstitut und Linux Für Bulgarier eine internationale Konferenz über Wissenschaft, Bildung und Lernen in Freiheit. Die Konferenz findet am 10. Februar im Französischen Kulturinstitut in Sofia, Dykon Ignatij Str. 2, Bulgarien statt.
Jonas Öberg, vice president of the FSFE, will give a talk entitled "How to do procurement of Free Software: the Swedish Example" during an event in Sofia, Bulgaria, on municipalities use of ICT. The event takes place at the Sheraton hotel on the 7th of february.
Am Mittwoch den 30. Januar um 14:00 Uhr wird Björn Schießle vom Deutschen Team einen Vortrag über Freie Software, Freie Software Lizenzen und die FSFE halten. Der Vortrag finden an der Universität Stuttgart (Campus Vaihingen), Universitätsstr. 38 im Hörsaal V38.01 statt.
